Was Final Fantasy XV's Delay Due To PS4 Pro? Unlikely

Final Fantasy Union: "The days surrounding the now infamous delay of Final Fantasy XV were somewhat chaotic. This is a game that has been plagued with challenges since its inception as Final Fantasy Versus XIII and then re-imagination as Final Fantasy XV, and the delay, after everything that had come before, was just too much for some people."

Maybe, maybe not. Sony did say they wouldn't show off the Neo/Pro until there was enough games to show running. that was right when SE said they were considering releasing a higher spec version. of course with this being said FFXV was going to release regardless.

Due to leaks a few months ago, these leaks were at first lol'd at, before starting to realize this guy was actually
credible, then SE release the first few hours vid and the leaks were 100% correct up to that point..

These leaks also stated a more than likely delay due to the game not being finished. Not to mention Tabata was

interviewed on it. Unfortunately for me, I now know I ruined the general plot for myself. :(
I will link to these if asked, its on Gaf(of course). But beware, it really does explain the plot, who dies and who kills them. The first we heard of Noctis getting older, was through those leaks. Then SE confirmed it with their vids a month or two later. So really. Just don't even search

95% sure the leak is due to quality. Basically

Here you go MAN pig, Seriously. If you DO want to take a look, only undo the first few lines of the plot. Like, just to even compare it to what SE has show,

Don't read more than 4 lines of the 'basic plot summary'

This dates back to June. The trailers released at the time had no mention of what he has mentioned, however in more recent reveals, all of it is actually shown (First scene of game is characters and fire etc etc), noctis getting older etc

Adrian_v013197d ago (Edited 3197d ago )

@xMAN

if you read the first three lines you can read everything. Because...

@Irishguy

...it sounds like bullshit. By the time this was posted a lot of the plot the supposed leaker mentiones was already known. Only the fire and Ifrit fight seems like a wow revelation but that could be someone who had early access from the trailer. Because it is suspicious that this part of the plot which takes minutes persumably is described in such detail, but the second half of the game with hours of plot is fitted in statements ala 'meh then they do this'.

Titan was know to be a thing since people bugging out of Duscae's playable zone and the Trial of Titan was also know to be made earlier than E3. Story details that were mentioned either in trailers or the movie weren't even mentioned by the leaker, e.g. plague of the stars, Etro, Luna's connection to her and the moon etc.

**Kingsglaive spoilers ahead**

Nyx was also mentioned to return in the game but the leaker didn't mention that. Also, from the movie it is know that Noctis most likely won't age from a 10 year sleep, but that the magic the family wields makes them age more rapidly, as was the case with Regis.

**Kingsglaive spoiler end**

Basically, the super accurate info was all part of the trailer released about a month ago (not sure when exactly), everything else is either written too generally in comparison or outright false (e.g. outfits only being black or there being no PS Pro version).

Irishguy953197d ago

That's relieving to hear Adrian, I hope you're right!

In an interview at this year's E3, Tabata confirmed that his team was not working on a Neo version - furthermore, his ignorance with regards to the PS4P's specs suggests that they were yet to receive a dev-kit, which made sense as FFXV was scheduled to release before the October 'deadline'... now the game has been pushed back and a PS4P version is in the works, but we're expected to believe that the delay was made in order to polish a game that's been in development for 10 years - a game that just had a dedicated event to announce it's 'release date'?!

glassgannon9093198d ago (Edited 3198d ago )

and you think theyll walk over that date for a console that hasnt even released and one they dont even have any real footage or a bundle for?
the game was in a crappy state at gamescom, thus, it got, delayed.
happens to nearly every aaa game these days.

and smh, do people still really believe they had been working on this for the past 10 years?
even if theyve been working on it since the day they got ps4 devkits or specs that still puts it around 4 or 5 years/
how the heck does whatever they did on ps3 make developing the ps4 version that much easier or shorter?
nioh was announced in 2004 and its most recent beta still had fps drops and bugs , sounds like a even bigger mess right?they still need beta testing after 12 years

darkwalker3198d ago

I think its pretty obvious that the game was delayed in order to be sold as a bundle with the PS4 pro or simply the sell more units after the the system's launch.

glassgannon9093198d ago

but there is no pro bundle...and no its not conjecture, the director himself said so a day or two ago

Was Final Fantasy XV's Delay Due To PS4 Pro?

Most likely.
If Sony paid Square, then good for them. Few extra funds they got for a expensive 10+ years development game.

Movefasta19933198d ago

This is the game i want to buy once i get the pro,i hope it's been boosted up for 1080p gaming.

Six Times When Games Turned Into A Horror Game

Ever play a game a game only to discover at some point it transforms into a horror game? No? Well Netto's Game Room shares six games that do just that!

Immediately thought of the El Dorado zombie dudes in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

raWfodog50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

Not necessarily a ‘horror’ moment, but I remember feeling really tense and anxious when the Flood were first introduced in the original Halo. I never felt more on edge or nervous in that whole game as that moment. I think it was the whole buildup that something terrible was coming but you didn’t know exactly what.

Another non-horror game that had me feeling it was Subnautica. The deep dark depths, and knowing that sea monsters were lurking nearby, had me jumping at every sound.

NettosGameRoom49d ago

That scene where you first see them attack is pretty crazy!

Relientk7749d ago

I remember being scared of the Asylum level in the most recent Thief game from 2014.

always liked 15, but the development was shch a shitshow. it could have been so much more.

but Tabata did a good job with what he had regardless

DivineHand125184d ago

Ff15 was a missed opportunity from square as they transitioned from turn based to real time.

One of the issues is that it was 30 fps. The combat mechanics required precision dodges to activate Noctis teleport ability and it was difficult to do at 30 fps. I am glad they rectified that in FF16. The story and flow also felt like it went through a chopshop similar to how some live service games end up when they are trying to meet a deadline. Those extra episodes they sold as dlc should have been in the maingame.

FF15 is one of the weaker entries in the series.

Z501184d ago

Dodges don't activate the teleport ability. Teleport was R1 + O. Dodge was just the O button. Explain the Black Hood (the item that automatically Dodges for you)

TheNamelessOne184d ago

Ah yes; FF XV.
The beginning of me coming to the realization the series was no longer for me.

Michiel1989184d ago

16 was a lot better, I think 15 was just a big mess with how development went and all. The music though, one of the best in the series, probably the only reason I finished the game.

Cacabunga184d ago

At least FF15 had RPG elements . 16 was just an action game from beginning to end.

Michiel1989184d ago

I rather have a good action game than a bad rpg with 2 button combat

Cacabunga183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

Then call it something else then FF. I got scammed with FF16. Nothing of what i expected it to be.
Even the action is bad in it, especially after the demo section where absolutely nothing happens until the very end.

FF15 isnt a great game but it has some variety at least.

CrimsonWing69184d ago

That initial trailer with the Leviathan fight was the game I wish we got. The actual retail release was watchdogged to all Hell and while there’s enjoyment to be had in the game, it’s such an incomplete product and so many elements feel so slapped together without any cohesion.

Like, don’t get me wrong, I loved fishing, cooking, and the first third of the game, but I much rather they made a story that didn’t feel barely there and the the last third of the game didn’t feel so rushed and unfinished.

Becuzisaid183d ago

Every time a party member left for a period of time screamed future paid dlc. It was horrible.

Imagine Dagger and Steiner making the party go to sleep in Lindblum in FF9 disc 1 and then taking off to Alexandria by foot themselves, but then never playing their side of the adventure in disc 2 when they smuggle her through the South Gate in pickles, take the cable car and fight the Waltz, head to Treno and start the quest to find Supersoft. They just eventually reunite with the main party in the future without explanation of what went on in their adventure.

Or Sephiroth's backstory in the famous Kalm flashback being added as a dlc pack. Same goes for Vincent, Cid, or Yuffie for that matter.

Oh and anything to do with Jenova, the Ancients, Aerith, her mom and Gast, shoved into a 2 hour CG movie or 5 hour anime ministries that's considered required viewing for anything in the main game to make sense or have characters actually be interesting.

I enjoyed FF15 at the time, and finished it, but it's bright spots are marred by a bad development cycle and a worse marketing scheme.

CrimsonWing69183d ago

What’s sad is when I watched a vid on the entire story (that wasn’t properly told in the actual game)!it was really solid and could’ve been one of the most epic stories in any FF. I think a lot of the compilation and cross-media stuff really f*cked it all up.

gurp184d ago

FFXV was underrated in my opinion
I have played all of the final fantasy games, and I loved this game
turn based to me takes too long, I like active battle
the extra dlc and chapters should have been included in the original release, but it is nice that they fixed the game later

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion436d ago (Edited 436d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled436d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?
