For all the demonic imagery Doom has to offer, it doesn't come close to the king of Heresy - Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13. While the game is chalk full on the Judo-Christian myth talk, its the ending that really kicks it into high gear. I like games that challenge religious dogma.

"finally, does it enrage everyone who won’t blink twice to call it an inconceivable, blasphemous celebration of anti-religion? Pretty much. However, as much controversy it may generate, it’s pretty clear DOOM doesn’t give a f*ck."

How does it celebrate anti-religion when you are killing Demons and satanic creatures? You are killing the bad guys here not worshipping them.

"Does it present heretic themes as if purposefully trying to offend religious beliefs? Indeed it does. "

Its a game, people getting offended by it just blows my mind.

I was thinking in a similar way. What religion is Doom attacking? Satanism is the only religion I see being depicted negatively. There isn't anything in the game I can recall that even mentions Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, or even Norse Mythology for that matter.

Games just like stories and setting from any form of media are works of fiction(mostly), ID soft aren't secretly trying to recruit for Buelzebub

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

That's a pretty fucking great list

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

After watching Scavengers Reign? The answer is unequivocally yes. I really want something out of left field but I think people are too afraid to shake things up.

It's what I love about Shadowrun and Black Mirror. Love, Death, and Robots proved that there's an audience for stuff that doesn't fit the mold.

Weird games in general we don't get enough of, we need more games like Katamari and Mr domino, things like that
