Astroneer Coming to Xbox Game Preview in December

by Brendan Wilson, Co-Founder at System Era Softworks Posted on September 21, 2016 at 3:52 pm:

We’re incredibly excited to announce that Astroneer will be released via Xbox Game Preview for Xbox One and Windows 10 in December of this year!

Astroneer is a game about wonder. Humanity has recently gained the ability to travel between the stars, prompting a gold rush of sorts in space. You play an Astroneer: a near-future prospector seeking fortune and adventure, deposited on far-flung worlds by your enigmatic outfitting company. Astroneers must use the tools available to them to build thriving bases, discover valuable resources, and uncover exotic and mysterious artifacts.

Looks interesting and it has co-op too. I will definitely keep an eye on this and Everspace

XanderZane3197d ago

Yes.. it does look interesting. We can compare it to No Man's Sky in December. I bet it doesn't cost $60 either.

Concertoine3197d ago (Edited 3197d ago )

Granted it won't be a NMS killer since NMS is already dead

@darxyde

I wasn't impressed with the game, i have a right to call it whatever. It was a cool and ambitious concept, that's kind of a given. We spent 2 years "giving it credit" for its design, now we can call it what it actually is (whatever that may be).

PoSTedUP3197d ago (Edited 3197d ago )

@ concertoine- I know right, No Man's Sky is its own killer, so it doesn't it need one..

Cindy-rella3197d ago

If this game is exclusive to the xbox one then you know itll fail. So many reasons why so hopefully its not

donthate3197d ago

Well it doesn't take much to kill No Man's Sky at this point.

sher123win1233197d ago

"When it releases in December it will still be in an early stage of development, Aka not complete" da faq!!

DarXyde3197d ago

Must be fun for everyone to have such a condescending tone towards No Man's Sky. I get it, it wasn't as advertised. But they did offer refunds and I'm sure some less than honest individuals reaped the benefits.

No Man's Sky does have its problems, but I'm not going to bash it because I've never played it. But calling it a killer when NMS realistically set this genre up, well, that's premature and kind of messed up. It's easy to make a better game when you witness the mistakes made by the team before you.

What'll be embarrassing is if this game ends up being as poorly received or worse.

As always, temper your expectations. And give NMS some credit, people. Jeez.

4Sh0w3197d ago (Edited 3197d ago )

I got to agree with DarXde, well except that it's easy to make a better game, it's not easy...still lots of own ideas & hard work.

I'm no NMS defender but damm, give the game a little credit, it was a very ambitious attempt to break new ground for a space exploration game. I don't think the dev/small dev team are bad guys they were simply in over their heads trying to deliver on those grand promises of the initial E3 trailer. I don't think anybody is more dissapointed than they are with how things turned out...if they learn from this experience the future NMS will benefit so yeah it's your right to be critical but now it's time to help those guys out with feedback to make the game better.

That said this game looks really cool, lots of depth and nice art style....out in Dec too?

KwietStorm_BLM3197d ago

No surprise that you guys didn't waste any damn time lol. There's probably more comments here about No Man's Sky than about Astroneer.

OhMyGandhi3197d ago

how could you possibly be getting disagrees?
This game looks incredible. Love the art style, and that website is badass.

christocolus3197d ago (Edited 3197d ago )

Lol. You must be new here bro but don't worry, you too will get used to it. The funny thing about it is that my opinion on any particular topic won't suddenly change because of 10000 disagrees.... so they can keep hitting that button all they like. Lmao XD

@ohmyghandi

Lol. The guy I replied to below is the perfect example of the type of butthurt users I was reffering to in my comment.He called me out and I've asked him to show proof...so let's all wait for him to provide just one link.

@Deadly

You can do much better than that dude. Why not spice it up even more by providing us with proof of my trolling habits? links would be great. Just one would do kid. Just one..Lmao..XD

@feedthereaper

Lol. So true. XD

Lightning Mr Bubbles3197d ago

No Man's Sky killer? LOL, you're not killing much.

DeadlyOreo3197d ago

@OhMyGandhi

Because he has the reputation of being a complete Microsoft fanboy and trolls anything Sony related at any given opportunity.

So yeah, you must be new here.

feedthereaper3197d ago

You could announce you are giving every person in the comments section a $50 XBL/PSN gift card and you would still get several disagrees!

slate913197d ago

Look at oreo calling the kettle black lolol

Kingdomcome2473197d ago

@Deadly- Please. Show some proof of christoculus trolling. I've never once seen him say negative things in PS4 articles. In fact, I don't ever recall actually seeing him in PS4 articles.

No Mans Sky Killer is Elite Dangerous

DarthZoolu3197d ago

You sir are correct. Wing up Darth Zoolu is my gamertag.

OoglyBoogly3197d ago

I wouldn't quite say that. Elite is better in certain aspects, sure, but it's still missing a lot that NMS has (like FPS exploration...).

No, the real NMS killer would be Star Citizen.

AngelicIceDiamond3197d ago

From the looks of it you get to not only explore the entire planet but mine the entire planet down to the core now that's something else. Looks interesting I'll probably give it a try.

lelo2play3197d ago (Edited 3197d ago )

“No Man’s Sky Killer”

No Man’s Sky is already dead.

FernDiggidy3197d ago

Any idea when Everspace is releasing?

xDealtwithIt3192d ago

Wow, this is definitely a No Man Sky killer and with co-op to save the day. Something a LOT of people wanted in NMS and was told it was possible but then in turns out it was a lie. Of course it could have been "server issues" that prevented people from actually seeing each other. This is why I love games for the Xbox One, because even though I hate paying for online play at least MS provides games that make use of it unlike PS+ which raised the price and still they don't provide any worth while multi player games.

This game looks way more colorful and above all else way more charming then anything No Man's Soul could have created.

Team_Litt3198d ago

No Man Sky does not need a killer. That thing committed hara kiri the day it released and people got first hand experience with it.

CobraKai3197d ago

Yeah having a game be a No Mans Sky killer isn't really a monumental task at this point.

GrontB3197d ago

Actually for something to beat what MMS accomplished is a monumental task. NMS, while not the greatest game, or far from it, still achieved something no other game has.

KwietStorm_BLM3197d ago

Funny it's still installed and alive on my platforms.

Imalwaysright3197d ago

And yet, it didn't stop the controversy that NMS generated.

pcz3197d ago

No mans sky is just glorified shovelware. its not the sort of game you use as a benchmark... not for good quality anyway.

all your game has to have to be a NMS killer is honest marketing

rainslacker3196d ago

It is rather amusing that after one trailer people are deeming it a NMS killer though. I recall just how much hype the reveal trailer of NMS brought to the game, and it seems like people's only real attraction to this game is that it's a NMS killer, with very few comments actually discussing what one can do in the game.

That being said, looks like a cool game. Kind of reminds me a bit of Dig Dug.:)

ninsigma3198d ago (Edited 3198d ago )

Oh God here we go with another topic to bicker about.

Edit:
Looks just like NMS but is more social and has more creative abilities. I like the art style.

CrimzonRazor3197d ago

Looks cool ill pick it up on xbox so the kids can play it

Astroneer Switch Review - To Infinity and Beyond - Nintendo Link

While initially released on PC in early access in 2016, Astroneer was eventually released on the Nintendo Switch in 2022.
