Astroneer Coming to Xbox Game Preview in December

We’re incredibly excited to announce that Astroneer will be released via Xbox Game Preview for Xbox One and Windows 10 in December of this year!

Astroneer is a game about wonder. Humanity has recently gained the ability to travel between the stars, prompting a gold rush of sorts in space. You play an Astroneer: a near-future prospector seeking fortune and adventure, deposited on far-flung worlds by your enigmatic outfitting company. Astroneers must use the tools available to them to build thriving bases, discover valuable resources, and uncover exotic and mysterious artifacts.

I wasn't impressed with the game, i have a right to call it whatever. It was a cool and ambitious concept, that's kind of a given. We spent 2 years "giving it credit" for its design, now we can call it what it actually is (whatever that may be).

Must be fun for everyone to have such a condescending tone towards No Man's Sky. I get it, it wasn't as advertised. But they did offer refunds and I'm sure some less than honest individuals reaped the benefits.

No Man's Sky does have its problems, but I'm not going to bash it because I've never played it. But calling it a killer when NMS realistically set this genre up, well, that's premature and kind of messed up. It's easy to make a better game when you witness the mistakes made by the team before you.

What'll be embarrassing is if this game ends up being as poorly received or worse.

As always, temper your expectations. And give NMS some credit, people. Jeez.

I got to agree with DarXde, well except that it's easy to make a better game, it's not easy...still lots of own ideas & hard work.

I'm no NMS defender but damm, give the game a little credit, it was a very ambitious attempt to break new ground for a space exploration game. I don't think the dev/small dev team are bad guys they were simply in over their heads trying to deliver on those grand promises of the initial E3 trailer. I don't think anybody is more dissapointed than they are with how things turned out...if they learn from this experience the future NMS will benefit so yeah it's your right to be critical but now it's time to help those guys out with feedback to make the game better.

That said this game looks really cool, lots of depth and nice art style....out in Dec too?

Wow, this is definitely a No Man Sky killer and with co-op to save the day. Something a LOT of people wanted in NMS and was told it was possible but then in turns out it was a lie. Of course it could have been "server issues" that prevented people from actually seeing each other. This is why I love games for the Xbox One, because even though I hate paying for online play at least MS provides games that make use of it unlike PS+ which raised the price and still they don't provide any worth while multi player games.

This game looks way more colorful and above all else way more charming then anything No Man's Soul could have created.

It is rather amusing that after one trailer people are deeming it a NMS killer though. I recall just how much hype the reveal trailer of NMS brought to the game, and it seems like people's only real attraction to this game is that it's a NMS killer, with very few comments actually discussing what one can do in the game.

That being said, looks like a cool game. Kind of reminds me a bit of Dig Dug.:)

I remember just how excited people were for NMS after the reveal at the VGA's, how it was going to be the best thing ever, how it was something fresh and new. Now this game can have the same treatment due to console war idiocy.

Oh well, at least this game can get a marketing boost and praise from fan boys despite knowing very little about it due to being exclusive, and they can spend the next few months hyping it up as the best thing ever since they couldn't gain traction with Elite Dangerous, which pretty much went under the radar since release.

Seems like indies titles just eat each other alive through publicity "killer this and that" indire literally bury each other alive for attention sakes. Makes sense considering indie games don't have major ad backing with the exception of NMS. If this wasn't exclusive to MS platforms, it wouldn't get anywhere near this much attention. It looks like it could be fun, but it is just another indie game with rudimentary graphics, and a few simple premises to keep it going. Might be good, and I do not mind the art style for what it is, and it seems kind of like a Dig Dug kind of game but on a bigger scale, so I'm willing to give it a shot. People just focus on the wrong thing though, as it's not the dev who's comparing it to NMS. Only similarity is that it takes place in space, and it's procedural generated.

"No Man's Sky" was the second bestselling game title in the states in august according to NPD and sold about 1,5 million physical copies globally according to vgchartz , and that's not counting digital. I think most gamers don't read forums and enjoy the game for what it is. I know I do, and I just got the platinum trophy a few days ago.

It may not be the AAA title everyone was expecting, but it is a good indie title considering it was made by 16 people; Bad marketing tho, and it should have been held back at least one extra month for bugfixing before release IMO.

Not always. UC was supposed to be a GeOW killer and it did fine. Some COD killers are still doing well. They usually fail to kill off another game though, because it's not like gamers just go from one franchise to the next and forget the old. There's a reason games become popular, and there is no real reason that any game needs to be killed off by another. It's not like there can only be one for each genre or whatever.

OK, so whose idea was it to come up with that sensational headline? At no point in the article is that game refered to as a "No Man's Sky killer", and I don't think the devs called their game that. It's a cute game, but nowhere near as immersive as NMS considering the style they're going with.
If people were disappointed with the supposed lack of variety in planets in NMS, I'm curious to see what they'll think about this one.

I agree with you about the headline but I really don't see your point in regards to the "lack of variety in planets"...I mean that was only 1 of many problems I hear from those who played NMS, mainly though is that the game lacked variety in things to do, content, very repetitive & missing things that was advertised. Note that this game isn't claiming a billion or whatever planets, it's just showing variety in the gameplay that aims to just be a fun space exploration game with what looks like drilling/mining planets, vehicles, spacecraft mod/creation, base building, etc. and a big plus of confirmed co-op/multiplayer. Don't know how good it will turn out but it isn't trying to just be a better mimic of NMS.

As good as this looks, I feel like it's only a NMS killer because it has alot more to do. I like NMS, because sometimes (usually after work) I like just brainlessly doing nothing in a game, and I prefer the art style, and the "openworldyness". This isn't 100% open world, some aspects (such as travelling from moons and planets are automatic). I will still give this a go when it preview in December though.

I'm trying to put in my own comments about what I think about the game though in every comment, because it does look like it could be some fun. Not going to get all hyped up about it over one trailer though. Art is acceptable for what it is, concept is fair enough, and if it is actually fun, then I'll probably enjoy it. My, or others, opinions of NMS will play no part in what I feel about this game....particularly after only one trailer.
