What I Want to See in Fallout 5

As the dust settles on the nuclear wasteland epic that is Fallout 4 everyone starts turning their attention to the game that is bound to follow, Fallout 5. There are no dates yet of course, it’s way too early for that. It’s important to remember that there are things in Fallout 4 that can be even better in Fallout 5 if they just tweaked things a bit.

What I want to see is more of a focus on role playing and choices. Something Fallout 4 was lacking...

Armaggedon3191d ago

There are choices, they just dont present themselves in a prescripted fashion. I get what you mean, and yes they could stand to improve how choices effect the outcome of alot of points in the game. However, most rpgs that allows this are more linear in comparison to Fallouts go out and explore method of roleplaying. Fallout 4 has alot of factors working in tamdem, that choice making games just dont have. If they allocate more of their focus towards the choices, they would not be making the games they are good at making.

Redx1653191d ago

Outside of the main quest there is hardly any choices for the majority of the side quests. ( Remember I'm talking about the base game ). In Fallout New Vegas Beyond the Beef you could:

1) Side with the Cannibals
2) Side with the dad
3) Kill the Cannibals
4) Expose the leader for what he's trying to do
5) Use one of your companions and free the capture guy
and more

Now name one quest in Fallout 4 that has all those choices? 90% of the time you're force to do what the original quest taker gives you.

So yes it needs to focus on player choices...

Not made by Bethesda. Ever. Again.

Zorkaz3191d ago

I thought there was plenty, but honestly it felt so dry and lifeless that there might as well not have been. There were seldom particularly important effects, or you simply didn't care anymore at that point. Though I must agree with Armageddon. Mind you, I'd rather they reduced the actual number of choices in the game at this point, seeing as how half hearted it seemed, and redistributed quality elsewhere.

Another thing I'd like to see is very different location. I mean they've done ok changing things round for the moment, but it would be cool to hang out in a really big city, or somewhere snowy ...

Armaggedon3191d ago

As I said, they could stand to work on it. But saying they "need to focus on choices" would just mean that they take something from another area of the game. And then, someone would take your place on this comment section saying "they need to focus on ____".

Armaggedon3191d ago

And if they go too deep into the roleplaying end, then the shooting and combat may prove too archaic and stiff for this generation of gaming. Not that Fallout 4scombat is high caliber, but it is a vast improvement pver the older titles.

_-EDMIX-_3191d ago

I'm not sure I would say all that I believe you could still have a great RPG mechanic while still having a very solid first person shooter in regards to how the game feels.

The game is still determining your success based on a specific system meaning that a head shot does not always clearly guarantee a one-hit-kill in something like Fallout.

sullynathan3191d ago

The only reason that new vegas and fallout 3 didn't have good combat was because of the engine it ran on. Bethesda needs to hire people that can make good fps for an rpg and also an engine that can work well for it.

Look at STALKER and EYE divine supremacy for rpg shooters with good combat.

_-EDMIX-_3190d ago

No. Yet other games last gen actually had good shooting? Those games felt bad, simply because they didn't have a solid team to actually make the FPS actually good. They got better, they made it good.

Consider its like trying to say we didn't have any good FPS's last gen. Those games felt bad merely because the team favored it being a RPG more so at the time.

No reason to ignore having it feel right about a FPS too, it can and will be both. The engine in Fallout 4 is not THAT different then new vegas or Fallout 3.

sullynathan3190d ago

no their shooting mechanics wouldn't be at as good as it could be no matter which dev used that engine. Certain engines are better than others even for certain genres. ID can make a solid shooter yet they would never actually use Bethesda's shit engine because they know better.

Bethesda does not favor being and rpg, Bethesda are hilariously incompetent when it comes to making working game mechanics. They make bad rpgs and shooters. Obsidian had no choice either ofr New Vegas because Beth gave them so little time and they couldn't make a new engine or a use a new one like they originally wanted to so they stuck with what they had which again turned out to be a bad fps like usual even after they improved on certain mechanics.

_-EDMIX-_3191d ago

I would like to see them possibly introduce mounts to the game.

Other than that I'm pretty fine with what they've done with the Fallout series. I also can't wait to see what obsidian does Fallout New Orleans!!!!!

zombiechimp3191d ago

There would be something about owning your own gunship and mini-gunning down supermutants from the skies.

Gecksta3191d ago

More rpg like 3 and Vegas.

We all owe Fallout 76 an irradiated beer or two.

Wouldn’t that change a lot gameplay wise

I mean it’s cool don’t get me wrong but what about Rad infested areas and the like, would Ghouls be able to walk through without a care in the world

Name Last Name294d ago

Basically starting with the rad perk. Just like Skyrim Lizards could breathe underwater.

Gameseeker_Frampt294d ago

I imagine it would be handled similar to the way vampirism is done in Skyrim. The downside of be able to walk through Rad infested areas without a care in the world would be the constant threat of becoming a feral ghoul.

anast294d ago

The games is going to be bad, like Starfield levels bad.

RaidenBlack294d ago

the game's not even in pre-production yet

anast294d ago

When I'm right, you can let me know.

Sciurus_vulgaris294d ago (Edited 294d ago )

I good see the following pros and cons of playing as a ghoul.
pros :
1. Regeneration
2. Radiation immunity

cons:
1. Low charisma and bartering
2. Some NPCs will shoot a ghoul on sight, thus altering guests.
3. Potentially become a glowing ghoul. You emit radiation that can harm your companions but you are empowered by radiation. NPCs that tolerant ghouls may now not tolerant you.

Its about time. They let you choose different classes in elder scrolls, why not fallout?

They really need to get rid of weapon mods and bring back more unique weapons that are hard to get / find

anast407d ago

They won't improve it other than a slight graphical upgrade. They have always been better at live action than making games.

MocBistro407d ago

Only way it could improve is taking it away from Bethesda and regroup Classic Fallout (1&2) devs with decent budget and time to make it.

If they start now, we can have it as early as in 2031!

redknight80414d ago

Heck yeah, we can have a teaser trailer in 2031!? I am so excited already!!

Hedstrom414d ago

Yea, the teaser 2031 for the trailer 2035 is going to be awesome!

DOMination-414d ago

haha was about to say the same thing.

All these articles about a new Fallout are pointless right now. A game of that scope will likely be 1 year pre-production and 4 years development MINIMUM and that's if they start on it tomorrow. Lets talk about it again in four years time when it's officially announced, not when they're still working out who may develop the bloody thing.

Kaii414d ago

Yeah, allow the studio that hasn't slam dunked any games In recent memory to "fast track" the next Fallout game.

redknight80414d ago

What could possibly go wrong!

jeromeface414d ago (Edited 414d ago )

Good, microsoft should look at their IP's with value and protect them from devs like bethesda after disasters like Starfield. Everyone would lose their minds if obsidian was able to make another fallout even though the new vegas team is long gone. .

Hereandthere414d ago

Lol, still port begging for hell divers 2.
