Project Origin is Now F.E.A.R. 2

IGN writes: "It's a bit funny how the corporate world works. In 2005, Sierra and Monolith put out an acclaimed first-person shooter called F.E.A.R. that blended elements of Japanese-style horror with kinetic gunplay. But prior to that, in 2004, Monolith was acquired by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which meant that things would get complicated for any follow-up. Sierra owned the name F.E.A.R., but Monolith was the company responsible for actually making it. So what happened next was a bit comical. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced Project Origin, a game that would effectively be the spiritual successor to F.E.A.R., while Sierra would make F.E.A.R. 2 with another developer".

lol had minimal interest in this game but now that its called F.E.A.R 2 i think i am interested now. Funny how the mind works. If it releases during a time spot thats good for me in terms of free time to play games and monies to spend on games then i will definitely get it. 1st one was awesome hopefully this one will be too

And you are a prime example of why publishers are afraid of releasing new IP's.

Ahh, what's in a name. I still have to play the 1st one. Which I always meant too.

yeah definitely...one of the best single player shooters of this decade imo...its not cheap scary like Doom 3 (where it only scares you because of poorly implemented and frustrating gimmicks), but is down right creepy at times...

avoid the PS3 version if you have the option...the 360 and PC versions look significantly better...FEAR is arguably the worst port the PS3 ever received...but even the PS3 version is worth playing through if its your only option...I would just recommend renting it over buying it though...

I've been excited for the monolith sequel since I finished the first game...the name was irrelevant to me anyway...a little frustrated that its not coming out till February (thought it was already confirmed for fall), but whatever...will probably be a lot of fun...

[Retrospective] For Better And For Worse: ‘F.E.A.R. 2’ Turns 10

Inspired by the J-Horror craze going on at the time, Monolith’s F.E.A.R. was a solid action fest of a shooter that entertained as much as it terrified. Bloody Disgusting goes back to see Alma ten years on from the launch of the sequel.

Great franchise, needs a port to consoles.

I liked the first FEAR better. 2 was ok.

This game honestly killed all my interest in the franchise, I loved 1 and its expansions (even though they're technically non-canon now) but the sequel was such a let down.

Editorial: Will There EVER Be Another F.E.A.R.?

First-Person Shooters are a dime a dozen nowadays and it’s a struggle to really find one that stands out and separates itself from the genre. This can be a double-edged sword, as a FPS that brings something new to the table can often unintentionally have that new thing staying at the table forever. But what if that game managed to capture a concept so well that not even its successors could manage to tap into its perfect blend of creative design? Let’s say they decided to mix genres: ones that had been mixed before, but managed to do something that hadn’t been done before. Could it be possible that a studio managed to make a sort of lightning in a bottle for FPS’s, something so good that there may not be anything quite like it for over a decade after it came out? Well, that DID happen, and that game’s name was F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon.
