Microsoft has ordered Nesbox to remove the NES app from Xbox platform and republish

Nesbox Twitter:

“Microsoft says: "Your product was unpublished globally or from specific markets". They want me to remove xbox platform support and republish”

UltimateMaster3216d ago

I guess Microsoft doesn't want to get DMCA by Nintendo.

darthv723215d ago

It says to republish. That tells me it wasnt published correctly initially. So there could still be a chance once its published correctly.

christocolus3214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

I think MS just wants to avoid any issues that may arise from this. I think the emulator will be up on the windows app store (for PC) eventually but it won't be published for console but anyways let's see what happens, there are many uwp apps currently available just type the word "you" in the search and you'll find so many apps available for download...I think Xbox one is going to be getting a lot of uwp apps. I was browsing through and I've seen so many i.e animated series of Batman , spiderman, Naruto, mickey mouse, Bugs Bunny , Tom and Jerry apps...and then MTV, Mr. Bean, ABC news, MSN weather ,wrestling, NASA live tv, Reddit, notepad. etc ...and there's much more still getting certified/approved by the day. wow

PhucSeeker3214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

The dev said that M$ need him to remove Xbox platform support and then republish the app. It's exactly what it means, no Xbox support.

TheCommentator3214d ago

Phuc, I would have to assume that you're right on the money. I see no other reasonable outcome, given the limited information provided in the tweets.

What I'm confused about currently is the fact that the previous articles about Nesbox said it had passed certification already. Wouldn't that mean that MS had looked at the emulator and approved it in a configuration that would specifically play on XB1? I'm curious as to what may have changed since the initial approval (probably pressure fron Ninty). Somebody who can should ask MS for clarification on this matter.

GameNameFame3214d ago

If it is matter of DMCA, then why allow it on Window Store on PC, but not Xbox?

I think MS dont want people playing games that dont pay MS.

pcz3214d ago

for microsoft to okay a nes emulator just when nintendo are about to release their nes mini classic would be a bitch move.

TheUndertaker853214d ago

Right? Particularly when the emulator would run more titles than the NES Mini.

XanderZane3214d ago

That's why Microsoft is telling him to remove it. Not sure how he got it up there to begin with. Whoever approved it to be up there screwed up. Would think M$ would need Nintendo's blessing for that emulator to be on XBox. We know that would never happen. Especially with Nintendo releasing the NES Mini this holiday.

Dasteru3214d ago

Emulators are completely legal. As long as he is not providing game ROMs, Nintendo has no rights to it.

Also the hardware patent rights for the consoles covered by this emulator expired years ago.

TheCommentator3214d ago

I don't know why people would disagree with you. It's true, and evidence can easily be found that supports your claims. Retrocon is a perfect example of legal hardware emulation of classic consoles.

TXIDarkAvenger3214d ago

It only got removed because the news of it blew up. Nintendo has no case to remove the emulator.

Told ya would not last long

DigitalRaptor3215d ago

Yikes. I read this a couple days ago, but looks like the excitement over at camp Xbox was premature, as usual.

DJustinUNCHAIND3215d ago

You'd know all about being premature, wouldn't you?

SpaceRanger3215d ago

I don't blame him for being familiar with it. He, and the rest of us see a lot of Xbox fanboys come through this site having symptoms of being premature.

Elit3Nick3215d ago

And Sony fanboys are different?

Gazondaily3214d ago

Awww man. Last week was tough for you guys wasn't it? 😂😂😂

Ginpachi-sama3214d ago

This generation was tough for u guys wasnt it? 😀😀😀 28512;

JEECE3214d ago

I thought you were trying to pretend not to be a fanboy now to establish some sort of false credibility? Guess that's over.

Studio-YaMi3214d ago

Ohhh,I see someone is out of hiding, the snake shows it's true colors lol,we told you many times before that you're nothing but a an xbox fangirl, why would you keep denying it,I mean raptor is a playstation fangirl as well but at least he's in terms with it,not trying to sound like he's the "sound of reason and ethics" when deep inside you're not so different than him, another fanboy to another manufacturer pffft what a joke. 😂😂😂

They will have fired close to 20,000 people all up after this round of lay-offs coming, since the ABK deal announcement in January 2022. Shocking really

January 2023:
Microsoft laid off 10,000 employees, which was a significant workforce reduction.

January 2024:
Approximately 1,900 gaming employees were laid off following the Activision Blizzard acquisition.

May 2025:
Microsoft announced a further 6,000 layoffs as part of an organizational shift.

June 2025:
Additional layoffs, including 650 in the gaming business, focused on corporate and support functions

"They will have fired close to 20,000 people all up after this round of lay-offs coming, since the ABK deal announcement in January 2022. Shocking really"

It's not that shocking considering these numbers aren't just Xbox numbers as you're deliberately trying to make it seem for some reason.

Interestingly, another no shocking fact is that whenever Microsoft releases its quarterly earnings reports, you're quick to point out that those numbers aren't exclusive to Xbox. Yeah... go figure.

Ganif8h ago

They also fired around 2500 people across Microsoft's gaming divisions and Zenimax shortly after buying it, and before they closed down 4 studios including Arkane and Tango.

I remember Satya boasting about how compassionate he was for splitting the list 50/50 across the two companies.

Bring your sources. I´ll wait.

He doesn’t have any sources lol

He also forgot that Sony does layoffs too

Let's hope its not as bad as socials are making it, good luck to those that unfortunately lose their jobs.

Could be not as bad could be horrible. But it's Ms so I'm expecting the absolute worst.

Sometimes I feel like they brought in Sarah to take the heat away from Phil.

Phil has always stuck his nose into everything Xbox related when it's something positive or at least neutral but as soon as they went the multiplatform root he's stood back and let Sarah do most of the talking in terms of PR. Now they are doing the same with layoffs.

The person who should be let go is Phil himself.

RhinoGamer885h ago

Phil and his inner circle of circle jerk bros like AG.

Obscure_Observer5h ago

"Phil has always stuck his nose into everything Xbox related when it's something positive or at least neutral but as soon as they went the multiplatform root he's stood back and let Sarah do most of the talking in terms of PR. Now they are doing the same with layoffs."

You have no idea what you´re talking about.

*IF* Microsoft decides to address the upcoming layoffs, Matt Booty will be the one in the spotlight since he is the president of XGS.

Phil will probably be on some bs drama later doing interviews telling people how "devastated" and "sorry" he is for those affected while wiping away his tears with money.

Sarah is the President of Xbox (hardware) so she will be better off taking care of hers business and let both Matt and Phil face the backlash.

Jingsing20m ago

Amen to that, All of Phil's industry peers have left or moved on in the time he has been at Xbox. He is like a football manager that doesn't know when to go. I'm almost convinced he just wants to keep holding on so he can leave on a high (egotistical). But he is just causing more damage than good.

Think that rumor that they'll still make a new console but at a profit at $1000 will be true though. The series consoles will remain their cheap alternative throughout next gen I would say. Keep in mind that game pass and pretty much going 3rd party is their main focus. They want to bring xbox everywhere.

2d ago
GamerRN1d 12h ago

If they don't maintain some kind of console presence, I think they will lose gamepass subscribers and just become a 3rd party publisher who eventually sells everything off

Cacabunga1d 11h ago

Xbox games are releasing on all platforms. Who needs this hardware? PS or PC is all you need

Flewid6381d 9h ago

I've never owned an Xbox in my life and I have GamePass.

thorstein1d 8h ago

The only Xbox I owned was the 360. I have gamepass for my PC.

GamerRN1d 3h ago

Majority of Gamepass users are currently on console...

Even if they could get it down to $800 for a box that can run with comparable performance to a PS6 (at, say $200 cheaper) the population of people willing to buy such a thing would be so limited.
It would be the worst of both worlds.
