Written by a Sony fan... Fallout 4 is dumb, we didn't want mods anyway, thanks Sony.

Ashlen3213d ago

The article doesn't even talk about mods.

I play FO4 on PC and I would say many aspects of the game are a letdown. Particularly the story telling and the fact the game shoehorns you into a role instead of letting you create your persona. And it's hardly like this is the first person to say the game was a letdown. I'm fairly certain the majority of people feels like this is the weakest of the Fallout Games with New Vegas being the strongest. (of the 3d Fallouts)

EmperorDalek3212d ago

I still reckon New Vegas sucked, such a generic world.

kneon3212d ago

The storytelling in Fallout games is always poor, I don't think Fallout 4 was that much worse than the others in that respect.

Though it is the only Fallout game I never bothered to finish, I just don't care how it ends.

kreate3211d ago

nothing beats fallout 3 for me

Vegamyster3211d ago

I prefer Fallout 3 over Vegas mainly because the world is more interesting to explore and i liked the DLC more, Vegas had a lot more choice in its story but a lot of those choices involved lots of fetch quests & back tracking.

Kurt Russell3211d ago

Agreed. I also found exploration and side missions really flat in fallout 4. I've always enjoyed the series more for the exploration that the main campaign, this one was not so good. Maybe Witcher 3 ruined me by raising that bar.

Woah! Dammit that's basically it's redeeming feature! Though I will have to agree that I did get bored quickly. I dunno what is was, it just somehow never ... ticked right. Wasn't engaging enough.

mark_parch3212d ago

fallout 4 is an amazing game and is even better with mods

Utalkin2me3212d ago

@KiwiViper85

Thats funny, cause what i read said not a word about mods. Thats reported as spam.

sullynathan3211d ago

If you believe Sony fans are the only ones that don't like fallout 4,what we're you doing last year when it was compared to TW3?

sho0ok3211d ago (Edited 3211d ago )

Lol yeah, seems like it.

A game that has been lunched a year ago and was well received by gamers all over the world. As soon as Sony announced no MODs on PS from fallout, this game become no so good lol.

Lightning Mr Bubbles3213d ago

Yes. It was a bit of a letdown. Not a bad game, but just for it being fallout and how brilliant fallout 3 was I expected more.

yezz3212d ago

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Bansai3212d ago

New Vegas is light years better than Fallout 3 in my opinion. As for Fallout 4, yes, it was a disappointment, especially the dialogues and story, but I still somehow popped that platinum trophy. Probably because there were no other games in that time.

Erik73573212d ago (Edited 3212d ago )

pipboy was amazing, combat is sure to be a staple in the future fallout series, menus were well designed because all icons were animated, crafting is also sure to be a standard for other fallout games, the dialogue system was flawed in some areas, but did greatly improve the cinematic compared to the last fallout games.Power armor was way cooler to have and followers we're better.

It may not be as good some areas compared to other fallout games but I wouldn't call it "disappointing" because it brings a lot to the table that I assure you future fallout games will carry on.

TimeSkipLuffy3212d ago

In my opinion Fallout 3 is far better. Vegas was nice but I didn't got attached to the chars and my own char as much as I did with F3

JamesBroski3212d ago

I personally prefer F3 to New Vegas (probably because it was all new and the wasteland was so fun to explore), but I really hope that Obsidian are going to work on another Fallout game with proper story and DLC this time.

Armaggedon3211d ago

Im not sure why the dialogues are so shunned when is basically a very similar formula used by almost every major rpg , including mass effect, dragon age, deus ex, witcher, etc. It is very si ilar, yet people seem to hate it. Strange.

Rachel_Alucard3211d ago (Edited 3211d ago )

@armageddon

Did any of those games limit you to 4 options and railroad you to saying yes even when you say no?

There's a copypasta joke comparing dialogue systems that gets plastered all over the steam page for this game

A baby is drowning in the lake

Fallout 1:

Ask for more information

Agree to help

Decide not to help

Accidentally say something that pisses the NPC off, failing the quest

Reveal too much information about yourself; causing Super Mutants to track your vault more easily

Fallout 2:

Ask for more information

Agree to help

Decide not to help

Accidentally say something that pisses the NPC off, failing the quest

Pop culture reference about the baby

Fallout 3:

Yes, I will save the baby

Depends on the caps

I will not save the baby

[Intelligence] The baby is drowning

Fallout New Vegas:

I will save the baby

I will not save the baby

[Barter 30] Double the caps, and I'll save the baby

[Medicine 30] Thanks to my medical knowledge, I will easily be able to save the baby

[Survival 15/30] Uh... yeah; I totally know how to swim

Fallout 4:

Yes

No (Yes)

Sarcastic (Yes)

Maybe (Yes)

babadivad3211d ago (Edited 3211d ago )

I liked New Vegas as well. It was funny and well written. But the main reason I liked it is because there are monsters that could actually kill you. And death claws were TERRIFYING. On fallout 4[and 3] you could just tank anything. I have no fear of any monsters on this game. Even at level 10 I would walk through a sea of Deathclaws and mirelurks with no fear of death. It was so easy I had to turn the difficulty all the way up to survival[old] but still couln't be touched.

On New Vegas, Deathclaws had the ability to negate the damage protection of your armor. So if you got in a fight with 3 death claws, if you couldn't escape, you were likely going to die. It kinda made it seem like the waste land was actually a tough place to survive in.

I hope the Obsidian does another New Vegas type game. I like the upgrades done to Fallout menu system and storage containers. Just needs a better tuning. I think Obsidian is up to that task.

JamesBroski3212d ago

Same here. And when I bought the season pass before the price increase, I was hoping to see quality DLC like Fallout 3 and New Vegas that would make the game even bigger and better, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Erik73573211d ago

Fallout 3 dlc > new vegas dlc

Paytaa3212d ago

The problem with Fallout 4 was the lack of role-playing elements and the god awful dialogue system. It should have built on the formula Obsidian crafted with New Vegas instead of streamlining the Fallout 3 one to just an open world shooter.

New Vegas had the writing, interesting questlines, great expansions, weapon variety, characters, and overall felt like a legit role playing game.

Fallout 4 is a great game, just not a great Fallout game. Won't lie that the hype didn't blind me.

Armaggedon3211d ago

I couldnt even start playing new Vegas some reason.

LAWSON723211d ago (Edited 3211d ago )

Yeah, the formula of NV is a copy and paste of 3 just a little more refined, however far less original

3 had okay writing (so did new vegas nothing to write home about), interesting questlines, fantastic expansions (IMO maybe the best), weapon variety, characters, and felt like a role playing game like other Bethesda games before it.

immabadguy3211d ago

To call New Vegas a "copy and paste" of Fallout 3 is absolutely absurd. If you played New Vegas and compared it to Fallout 3, you would notice vast improvements in pretty much all areas of the game, esecially the vastly fleshed out storytelling, rpg elements, and player choice. I understand that Fallout 3 was many peoples first Fallout, which would make it their favorite, however to say New Vegas is a copy and paste and far less original than Fallout 3 is quite far fetched.

Dasteru3212d ago

No. As someone who had beaten Fallout 3 and New Vegas 15+ times each. Fallout 4 was my favorite. Yeah it dumbed down certain aspects, but not to a boring extent. The gameplay in general was an improvement imo. Also the complete removal of a level cap is awesome.

Ashlen3212d ago

Removing the level cap is fine except for the fact that they made stats pointless especially starting stats. On top of that there is little progression, have 10 in stats just pick the final skill not that anyone would do that because they basically put all the useful skills at the top of the tree anyways.

If anything the leveling is the least interesting of the games, there is no real need to have a build or plan anything out.

Armaggedon3211d ago

Its simple, dont level up skils after a certain point. Just takes a bit of restraint

Bigpappy3211d ago (Edited 3211d ago )

I am at level 58 and built the intercepter . I find that most of us, who just emerged ourselves into the world and focused on taking care of those in the waste land, enjoyed the building and the relationshipsecond we got to develop. There are many things that I have done that felt very rewarding.
I don't want to give any spoiler's, but this game goes way deeper into the roles of groups like the brotherhood. I discovered everything on my own (no tips or cheats ). Things like finding the path to the railroad and decoding the chip were not too difficult but still rewarding.
The only expansion I have used , so far, is the Robot DLC. It has made the world more interesting and Cosworth is far more deadly since I upgraded him.

This game can be played for a much longer time than previous Fallout games. It has more content even without the DLC, and there are more RPG options.

Elwenil3211d ago

I am currently at level 101 and have played all the DLC except for Nuka World which I have only just started. I played Fallout 3 all the way through several times and enjoyed just doing the beginning and going out and exploring even after that. I never enjoyed New Vegas. I tried to play it 5 or 6 times and never got very far into it. It just seemed very tedious and never held my attention.

Fallout 4 I have enjoyed a lot. I know a lot of people disliked the building features but I had a great time building defenses for my settlements. I did really hate the repetitive missions from The Minutemen, but disconnecting their radio tower and avoiding Sanctuary solved that for the most part. I liked the upgrade system and some of the new options there and while companions can be as big of a con as they are a pro, They, like a lot of the other controversial features of the game, are completely optional except for a few missions here and there.

At the end of the day I bought Fallout 4 and the Season Pass on release and I feel like I definitely got my money's worth. I am very disappointed about the mods for PS4, but will probably eventually pick the game up on Steam for PC once it's cheap. At level 101, I've spent a lot of time with Fallout 4 with my first playthrough and I am looking forward to playing through several more times with the different factions and endings. Compared to a lot of games at the same price point, it's been a great value and one of the highlights of this gen for me.

Bigpappy3211d ago

Thanks Elwenil. I find that many people play Bethesda RPG''s because they hear others praising the game. The they start playing that the gamesame do not take you down the road at 150 mph. These games are for exploring, learning and deciding what you want to do and when. You choose how much and what you want to focus on. They have they own type of RPG''s which are NOT for everyone.
My advice to those who can't stand the slow and "boring " pace of these games or how they had left story telling, is to stick to the Witcher, Damon Souls, Final Fantasy... or whatever type of RPG you prefer.
Those are all good games, but for some reason Bethesda games keep growing there fan base

Fallout 4 on Switch 2 seems inevitable, but what about Starfield?

A Fallout 4 Nintendo Switch 2 port seems like an inevitability, but what about other Bethesda RPGs like Starfield.

I think all games will end up on switch from Xbox. MS has embraced going to other platforms now if games aren't doing well on Nintendo MS may be more selective in the future

On playstation they have been quite successful

anast80d ago

I'm not sure too many people want to play Starfield.

Profchaos80d ago

Phils all but confirmed they are going in hard with the switch 2

TheColbertinator80d ago

All are welcome to Switch 2. Microsoft Games Studios is interested in long term profits and market value not petty fanboy thoughts.

Starfield is actually a RPG. Bethesda hasn't done that in a while.

GhostScholar182d ago

People acted like starfield was so less interesting than fallout and drastically different, but I call bs on that. Both are decent games, but they are both filled with the appearance of things to do and items to interact with but 99 percent are just there to be there with no significance. Fallout has better character work but they are both sort of illusions that they’re vast.

Shiore2u182d ago

Studio has been going downhill since Skyrim. Every following game gets dumbed down more than the previous. I'll be shocked if Elder Scrolls VI even has dialogue options.

anast182d ago

Fallout 4 was bad, real bad. Starfield might even be a better RPG.

trez1082181d ago

Fallout 4 wasn’t a great fallout game per se but real bad? I don’t know maybe I’m a little biased because I replied it not long ago and had fun with it.
