With everyone’s favorite plumber making the jump to a mobile, the question then turned to just where else we might see Mario next. According to Miyamoto, the answer to that question definitely isn’t VR.
Thirdverse, the Japan-based VR studio behind Swords of Gargantua, Altair Breaker, and X8, announced that its VR multiplayer JRPG SOUL COVENANT is coming to all major headsets next month. Developed by the core team behind SOUL SACRIFICE (2013), players are thrust into a post-apocalyptic Tokyo in the franchise’s first VR expansion.
In a very recent development, Capcom has announced that the VR mode for the “Resident Evil 4” remake is scheduled to be added on the 8th of December as an update and will support the full main story campaign, offering an unprecedented gaming experience to its users. However, RE Series fans have another reason to rejoice as there is a possibility that RE Series might get a VR Version in the future.
SEGA’s Second Division Manager, Osamu Ohashi, wants to surpass Mario by strengthening the Sonic IP.
They can compete but Mario will always win. Mario and Sonic cater to different fans or fans who like both.
Sonic doesn't have to compete though. Both are their own thing, there's plenty of room for them both.
Thing is Sonic despite the bad games is still an icon as big as Mario, probably bigger cause he's seen more in media than Mario. More cartoons, more movies, more memes. So on that end he's good, they just gotta stop making bad games.
Of course not; Mario in first person just feels awkward.
This is one of those situations where, as the owner and developer, he's right in that they can choose to not make a VR Mario experience, but he's wrong in saying it's not a right fit. That would be for the consumer to decide if one were ever made.
Lucky's Tale was incredible to play on the Oculus Rift and if something like Mario 64 were put onto it, it would blow people's minds.
Metroid would be INSANE in VR though.
Such a shame to hear him say that.
The man that revolutionized 3d games would be blessing to VR. VR needs its Super Mario 64 moment. The games out now aren't even Jumping Flash.
