@blitz... well they did say the gpu and cpu were improved. I'd bet they are significantly more improved than the XB1S is to the XB1. I will say though... since MS added 4K and HDR to the XB1S it sort of tainted those buzz words for the PS4Pro. Meaning those were a given now instead of wow that is new. The big surprise is that they will enable HDR support in older PS4 models. That is very nice of them (unlike MS and leaving older XB1 owners to shiver in the cold).

Did anyone notice some rather striking similarities? XB1S came out with an improved cpu / gpu as well as 4k and HDR support and now the PS4Pro has an improved cpu / gpu with 4k and HDR support.

The 1tb XB1S is $349 and the 1tb PS4Pro is $399 and both will offer upscaled games at 4k and HDR where available. I say upscaled because that is essentially what is going to happen with all the previous PS4 games is they will upscale and add in HDR seeing as there is no chance that Naughty Dog is going to go back and reprogram UC4 in 4K natively let alone any other developer.

Many have said that 4k gaming on scorpio would not be possible at 6tf and the Pro is likely under that (otherwise they would tout the specs) so dont expect native 4k gaming anytime soon unless it is an indie game that doesnt push the fidelity like a AAA game.

Well it could not be PS4K cuz it would be misleading, it is not a 4K gaming console, lets be realistic, it can't be when it is for 400 USD, let alone a gtx 1070 at msrp 379usd can't get you fluid 4k in most games, some on lower settings, but it has 6.5 tflops, ps4 pro 4.2 tf, scorpio will have 6 tf, but im sure it will be more expensive, quite a lot i think.

The original PS4's support 4K output but did not support 4K Bluray disks since the 4K Bluray specification were not ratified till February of 2015. Even if the Pro does not support 4K Bluray (I was surprised with that) I don't think this will have a major impact although it will have some since there are very few Bluray titles available and the push is for streaming services anyway.

I do agree that getting HDR support via a firmware update is impressive and obviously you will need a 4K TV to take advantage of that, but unfortunately there are two competing HDR formats the first HDR10 (open format) and then other Dolby Video HDR (closed or proprietary format) so you need a 4K TV that will support one or both. HDR10 is supported by Sony and Samsung while omanufacturers (notibly LG) support both.

Its not twice as powerfull.... its has double the GPU but the SAME CPU just overclocked. 4K is Upscaled with the same assets the standard PS4 uses. So basically it allows for better AA and better Framerate.

The PS4 is 1.8 Tflops with CPU and GPU combined. A 750Ti is 1.4 Tflops on its own and when paired with a core i3, of-course it'll surpass the performance of the Apu in the PS4.

I've been saying that for months since the Scorpio reveal. Way too many factors which determine performance. All TFlops does is tell you how many floating point operations per second a processor can process. Streamlined processors, or processors with special hardware could still outperform at lower rates.

There is some correlation due to the parts that make up that number, but it is far from a set number of procedures or linear scale to be able to say that one will be able to be a percentage better than the other.

TFlops is generally rated as overall system performance since there is more than the GPU which can process such things, and other factors may change what the GPU can provide. The numbers listed by GPU manufactures are always theoretical based on what the GPU could produce on it's own, with no hindrance or gains from the rest of the system itself.

That's actually the HDCP2.2 copyright spec which requires that. HDR itself doesn't require it. You can already get non copy protected HDR media from some places, but most entertainment media through disc or streaming will have that enabled.

In other words, games may still support HDR even if one has an older HDR TV, assuming they can run on the 17Mb bus of the HDMI, which is the original standard before it got upgraded to 22Mb. Non copy protected streams or content should also work.

Only reason that the current PS4 can't support UHD is that it doesn't have the proper HDMI control chip to enable HDCP2.2, so it's a hardware issue in the chips fabrication footprint because it has exposed pins to connect it to the main board.

Granted, at this point, I'm not going to assume anything, because all these months of rumors wore me out, and will just wait for official confirmation.

Because HDR and 4K are actually different specs that have nothing to do with one another. HDR is a color profile, 4K is a resolution. Theoretically, 1080TV's could support HDR, but they aren't likely to do that since 4K is eventually going to be the standard anyhow, and there is no consumer level commercial 1080/HDR media outside gaming to make it worthwhile.

In any case, the HDR will be rendered in 1080, then upscaled to 4K, or I guess there are settings which allow for HDR in 4K, but with less graphic effects elsewhere.

They didnt convince me as to why I needed to buy this "upgrade" and trade in my metal gear solid 5 edition system. I didnt see much improvement in terms of graphics, and the 1 tb isnt anything that you cant do now on your regular ps4. The extra power can be used by the devs however they choose. Of course the Pro can display all PS4 games at 1080p 60 f/s if the developer chooses that route, but some may prefer to focus elsewhere.

The name works since it basically puts it out there that it's a premium model. But unless they offer trade incentives, it could be a tough sell to pre-existing owners. Other than that, I have some other petty grievances...

Not backwards compatible at all. They could've at least offered native PS3 support. Additionally, 1TB is nothing. I have 2TB and that's got about 700GB remaining. With Plus and the size of games now, at least offer external hard drive support. Hopefully, it's in 4.0.

All things considered, it's nice that we'll see some upgrades, but Sony could've compensated for the 2TF difference between Pro and Scorpio by making it feature rich. I'm a little disappointed, but perhaps we don't know everything yet. Doubtful, but I suppose that chance still exists. Give me a trade program and I'm totally on board. Until then, I'll wait until videos surface to showcase some improvements. In all honesty, despite my critique, there's a good chance I'll get one around launch for the simple fact that I don't believe Final Fantasy XV will run at a locked frame rate on the basic platforms.

I don't get all these people trashing those who admit this was a disappointing showing. Nothing wrong in admitting the conference was a letdown. Everyone thought they would announce at least a little more and everyone thought the Pro would have a 4k Bluray player.

It's a good brand name, but it also denigrates the earlier model making it seem inferior and inadequate. I imagine the regular model will be phased out quickly. I also expect some consumer confusion this Holiday Season.

Wow nobody saw this coming. It's a 4K a gaming console that can't do 4K. It's a 4K entertain machine that can't do 4K Blurays. I was looking forward to this so much. Now not so much. The Neo was supposed to be the one. This PS Pro is one that can't.
