VGChartz' William D'Angelo writes: "Looking at the total sales of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U in the US in July shows how close the race between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One really is. While the gap has grown in favor of the PlayStation 4 in recent months, it did shrink slightly in July.
The PlayStation 4 has sold 14.28 million units lifetime in the US, the Xbox One 12.45 million units, and the Wii U 5.50 million units.
Taking a look at the marketshare, the PlayStation 4 tops the other two platforms. The PlayStation 4 has a 44 percent market share, the Xbox One sits at 39 percent, and the Wii U 17 percent.
PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 14,280,717
Xbox One Total Sales: 12,453,798
Wii U Total Sales: 5,499,118"

Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Star Wars content may mean that MCU content for the hit simulation game won't arrive anytime soon.
I think sony ps4 will have more than 50 percent market share in the US by 2018. The ps4 has been a big success in the US and has been outpacing the xbox one most months since the systems launched in 2013. If sony prices their new consoles at an attractive price point ( ps4 slim, ps4 neo) i think theyll increase sales momentum and gain over 50 percent market share within a year or two.
Imo in a lot of cases lifetime console sales even out close to the midpoint of a gen, I feel like people end up buying into other consoles as well, as pricing goes down on consoles and the games library available on them increases, still waiting on this gen's essential/platinum/gold equivalent collection of games, games are/stay expensive where I'm from.
X1 has really closed the gap sony for having such a large lead in the beginning has really dropped their ball, which sony has not had many great first party games this gen.
