Uh, pointless article, Reggie already said they will not use the Wii name.

The name won't change nothing. What they need are some fresh, new, innovative IPS and to stop relying on sequel after sequel. One new game every five years (splatoon for example) doesn't cut it.

Nintendo can innovate with their current IPs, they have done it in the past and continue doing so, the new Zelda is proving that. Heck alot of their IPs are so old and untouched they could learn a few things from new games. The problem with Nintendo IPs are Nintendos crappy handling of them, rather than them being ran dry. There is an outcry for so many Nintendo games and Nintendo never answers and when they do they dont deliver what people wanted.

What the new Nintendo system needs is Nintendo getting out of their box and stop catering to audience that does not exist? This system needs to reinvent what they stand for just like the stupid Wii did. They need to accept people love online MP and services, they also love when a company hears their voices. Metroid, for example, is like Half Life at this point, a joke that even the company heads are in on. Nintendo nostalgia is strong right now if a Mario 64 reimagining or Pokemon MMO for console was announced millions would crap their pants.

I don't see the new Zelda as innovating just catching up to present time games, mechanics and larger scope. Zelda was mentioned in beginning of Wiius life, yet its coming at the end of it so it better be special with all that baking in the oven. Nintendo IMO in regards to software have been very out of touch and a generation behind for example their lethargic transition to HD games.

Again I would love to see them not only rely on sequels but churn out new IPS with innovative twists and gameplay. Or as you mentioned maybe bring back some of the untouched ones in years like Metroid. And as for online they got the memo and slowly but surely have been gravitating towards it because they know if they don't they will be dead in the water.

Pass along that message to third parties too, while you're at it, or don't bring it up at all.
The fact of the matter is that reliance on familiar IP's is not a sin, and is something anyone with an IP worth continuing does. Also, Pokken and Xenoblade X would like a word, because both are whole new experiences even if the names are familiar.
New IP's are nice, but new entries in familiar ones should not be downplayed. They can be fresh and new despite being familiar.

Wallstreet373212d ago (Edited 3212d ago )

I also think they need to hear that too however that won't change for them. That is the business they do and publishers run that world so publishers for the most part won't let them change that formula. For example due to COD constant lack of innovation I boycotted them for three game releases. I also completely stopped buying games like Assn Creed.

Either which way I'm here talking about Nintendo. You and I have had convos before so I know your a devout nintendo fanatic and they do no wrong in your eyes but that's what "I" want to see from them as a Nintendo console owner who sees the bs I don't like from them.

Again all companies make sequels but when u rely just on them with little or no new IPS or innovative new software you hit a wall and it makes "me" not want to invest. Make all the Mario's and donkey kongs you want but just add a steady stream of new games too so I can have diversity. New twists on established IPS are great too but again I want new and different IPS as well.

"I know your a devout nintendo fanatic and they do no wrong in your eyes"

Thanks for proving you've never paid serious attention to my opinions regarding Nintendo, especially during my talks regarding their advertisement efforts.
Stop pretending you can tell what I think until you've learned better.
You. Don't. Know. Me.

Wallstreet373212d ago (Edited 3212d ago )

Wonderful....

You do know this isn't the first time we've commented on each others posts right? Lol Every time either I or I've seen someone criticize Nintendo I've seen you come to its defense. Trust me I've been here long enough to know who is who.

Its cool tjough, its not that serious :)

Wow you critcized their advertisement efforts lol haha how dare you. It goes way deeper than their advertisement bro but hey its a start for u :)

wonderfulmonkeyman3212d ago

"Trust me I've been here long enough to know who is who. "
The fact that you've only paid attention to my positive notes and that I had to go out of my way to explain just one of the many complaints I've made about them, shows you actually don't.
Again, stop making assumptions. You don't know me, and have no right to defame me as a fanatic.

Segata3212d ago

Well over 80 new IPs since 2001. Look it up. Stop posting this ignorant garbage they don't make new IPs.

I just hope its not something cheesy again. Wii and Wii U were both stupid names

superchiller3212d ago (Edited 3212d ago )

I think they should call it the Wii3. Or maybe just WiiNie. Or how about WiiNu? WiiToo? There are all kinds of possibilities.

ZeekQuattro3212d ago

They need to just keep calling it the NX at this point to avoid confusion. NX is a fine name. I originally liked the idea of it being called the NX Entertainment System but with the NES Mini coming out some of the more slow witted gamers out there might get confused and think the NX is an attachment for the NES Mini so NX by itself is probably best.lol

meganick3212d ago

They've never kept a codename though, and I disagree it should be called NX. It's too lazy and meaningless.

Segata3212d ago

DS kinda had two code names. Nitro but Nitro was when it was GBA dev kits with an added screen. PSP changed what the DS hardware would be. For the revised more powerful dev kits the new code name was DS or Developers System so DS technically kept the code name.
