No Man’s Sky – Patch 1.07 released and detailed, described as “the largest update to date”

IMHO they need to fix a lot more things for the game to even live up to half its expectations.

IamTylerDurden13214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

Expectations that you set. These are your expectations, perhaps your expectations were off.

Maybe u should mention what the other things are that need to be fixed? It would be more helpful than making empty remarks.

Artemidorus3214d ago

They can start by giving us the game in presentations and not the garbage we all got as a retail product.

cleft53214d ago

The major thing they are going to need to patch in is the multiplayer the way they originally said it would be in there. I dont think its beyond them to do that so we will see in time if they manage to do it. Still its good to see them hard at work on the game.

_-EDMIX-_3214d ago

Naming your ships, sandworms, rings around planets amongst other things were not just expectations, they were actually factual promises...

I understand that some people exaggerated and that they thought the game would be ,but clearly there are lots of people that believed it was going to be what the director has promised and for a fact there's many things that they promised that are not in the final game without them ever clarifying this to Consumers, please stop making it sound as if everyone's just delusional that these people lied.

Spike20XX3214d ago

what's your fixation on replying to every comment here?

This way you won't feel cheated from the 60 bucks you paid instead of enjoying your game and staying away from the negativity?

fr0sty3214d ago

I'm willing to give them time to add content, but I have reached a point where I just can't play it anymore. The few tasks that are there to do have been worn out long ago. Last night I jumped into a game. Flew around in space for a bit and realized I needed to fix my warp drive. Got into a predictable space battle (1.07 did make space fighting WAY better, your ship turns more quickly now and enemies don't just fly straight towards you as soon as your first laser/bullet hits them, making them easy targets... but it was still too easy) which was over in 1 minute. Flew to land, got my supplies, befriended a critter who dug up some rare elements for me, but in the end I realized... I could jump to another star and do more of the same, but I've already done everything there is to do and there isn't any way for me to climb any higher, no way for me to level up any more, nothing that I will find in these other star systems that won't be a rearranged version of what I've already found in the last several, no new items to discover, no new tech to learn, any new ships I get will do nothing but add more slots to their inventory...

As a single player game, it gets very boring very quickly. If it were more like Destiny, with new content being added all the time, new items, new levels to reach, and a multiplayer element that made exploration more fun and would definitely make space battles better, bases and freighters to defend from actual human, non AI attackers... this game has potential to be something amazing, but as of now it's just a promising looking platform that all that could be built on.

Hopefully, like Minecraft, Driveclub and Destiny, it will grow into a better game with time.

TacoTurtlePower3214d ago

Expectations we set ? Have you seen the trailers and gameplay videos they released ? The features THEY listed that would be in the game ? The game isn't a finished product or the one they showed.

sampson31213214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

yup! all i hear and read are people complaining about all the lies and features missing from the game. not one actually articulated what it's missing. someone left a list of 13 things Sean Murray supposedly promised in NMS on my youtube channel. i research the first five, giant creature(check) creatures hunting down other creatures(check). faction battles (check). jungle planets(check). i told him to research the rest because he was wrong about the others. people are hating, without knowing what was and wasn't promised.
the last one i researched was MP not being in the game. well, he said a few times that it has MP aspects to the game, but it's not an mmo. easy to find, but here is a link, here is the quote

Q "Jill: Are characters pre-made, or customizable? What was the reasoning for the decision?"

A"Murray: So you don't get to see yourself in the game, which was a very specific decision we made early on. We wanted it so that you only see the world through your own eyes. No Man's Sky isn't an MMO"

LINK http://ca.ign.com/articles/...

this kind of hate only really happens when xbots are left out of a game. they start the hate train and the idiots hop on board.

XStation4pio_Pro3214d ago

to be fair (and I actually don't hate NMS) Hello Games did promise some things that didn't quite make it in the game. I'd say to some degree those are expectations the developer set. To expand on that - most of the general public didn't know what expectations to set as nobody really knew much about the game even after presentations.

DogJosha3214d ago

@sampson3121
Are you serious? You are trying to defend it not having multiplayer by quoting him saying that it will not have a massive amount of people playing together? Do you not know the difference between regular multiplayer and an MMO? The simple fact is that the guy lied when asked about there being multiplayer. He wasn't obscure, he flat out lied.

Considering the obvious limitations of the game, multiplayer is the only thing that would have made me consider buying the game. I'm just glad I didn't jump on the hype train and buy this game early. As for those who did buy it, everyone who bought the game within the first week, maybe two, should be entitled a full refund. After that point, the lies were already out in the open so a little research would have told you the game isn't what you were looking for if you wanted multiplayer. Selling a product based on features that don't exist is illegal for a reason.

Rookies comment got spammed so I will leave this here too.

IamTylerDurden1 173d ago
" No Man's Sky will have so much more than ppl expect. Compare the multitude of features it has (dialogue options included) to Elite Dangerous. Yet, i don't hear the mass criticism of that game. This just confirms that No Man's Sky has plenty of meaningful things to do. I guess there will be intelligent interaction with advanced alien life forms. You obviously will build some sort of narrative, i am so excited."

Sucks to be you Tyler

donthate3214d ago

You mean expectations set by the developer?

I wonder if this patch includes the lies, I mean omissions this time, or not.

tee_bag2423213d ago

Wow, 1st stage is denial.. But I didn't think people were still in denial they had been scammed. For that you're truly exceptional.

Gazondaily3213d ago

Damn tyler....you seriously got absolutely MERKED there 😂 Gotta bookmark that one for the lols

So, in light of your old comment, did NMS live up to your expectations?? Gotta say, your tenacity to defend mediocrity is astounding

3213d ago
IamTylerDurden13213d ago (Edited 3213d ago )

Yea, comments i made 173 days ago before we knew intimate details about the game. Very relevant.

It's funny how your expectations can actually change. U know, like when more details come out and we have have a more clear picture of exactly what the game is. Or do expectations from half a year ago supersede expectations from 1 month ago? After all the prelaunch demos and all the information that came out in the month or 2 before launch everybody should've had a clear picture of what the game is.

I fail to see what exactly the point of Rookie's post is. That 173 days ago i was excited about the possibilities of what NMS could be? How is Viper's post not Spam when it's a repost of a comment that got spammed?

Those were expectations that i set 173 days, and those expectations changed when HG came out with more information and a thousand demos of the game. I had set unrealistic expectations 173 days ago, but with the numerous demos and all the prelaunch coverage we all got to see what the game actually was. The game was exactly what i expected it to be.

gangsta_red3212d ago

"Yea, comments i made 173 days ago before we knew intimate details about the game. Very relevant."

So basically you were hyping the game up talking and bragging about features that you just assumed were in the game while downplaying Elite in the process.

And then you wonder why people were so let down when they actually played NMS. Don't you think that people like you were part of the problem when hyping this game up and putting high expectations on the game? Maybe it wasn't the media, maybe it was you and other like you that go around constantly in PR mode.

The thing is, you never changed those expectations, you kept hyping this game up and that is what Kiwi and Septic are pointing out. Maybe if you had just been genuinely excited without having to resort to shitting on other games for other consoles or devices in the process these type of comments wouldn't come back to you.

Orbilator3214d ago

With a user name like that i expect nothing less

Muzikguy3214d ago

This is getting really old. I wasn't expecting much from this game and I love it.

3214d ago
donthate3214d ago

Well, since you weren't expecting much, it sounds like you got exactly that for $60. How does it feel?

Glad I didn't support this scam.

fr0sty3213d ago

Guy who never played the game is glad he didn't play the game because some people said it wasn't good... Don't hate, go troll somewhere else.

I did buy the game, and I did play it, and while I do have my disappointments with it, I do not regret the purchase at all. I see that this game can grow into a platform much like Minecraft and Destiny did. Driveclub sucked when it launched as well, then went on to become one of the best arcade racers ever in a few short months. So, unlike many around here, I'm going to show a little patience and, as long as the updates remain free, give Hello Games time to redeem themselves.

Muzikguy3213d ago

I've played NMS more than many other full retail releases. So yeah, my expectations were fine. I'm not the one here screaming about wanting my money back. This is an obvious issue going on in the industry right now. More than just Hello Games have been lying about their products. I guess it's just easier for me on NMS because like I said, I wasn't expecting much

I'm sure if you funded something based on your expectations, then they'd probably deliver it at some point. In the meantime, the game does actually deliver on almost everything it said it would, so maybe stop with the generalizations of "half".

7 patches since launch well done hello games. You released one hell of a mess.

IamTylerDurden13214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

Well done is right, it's admirable that they are hard at work. How many patches have TT released for 7 Days to Die?

U know, The Witcher 3 had many more patches when you count all 3 systems, was that also a "mess"?

hirobrotagonist3214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

Right by the Witcher 3 is one of the best games ever made and CDPR's level of support for their product is incredible. It's also a fully fleshed out game with an amazing story and gameplay. It's not a glorified tech demo with a bunch of missing features that have been advertised in videos and various interviews with Sean Murray.

I'm a fan of all the NMS patches though, maybe in time it will more closely resemble what was advertised. I liked parts of this game for sure, but I was bored after 20 hours.

_-EDMIX-_3214d ago

That's true but the Witcher 3 still actually offered the features that were promised to consumers in the first place....

Nothing's wrong with a developer hard at work the problem is consumers were not told that they intended for this to be a work in progress prior to release, I don't even have a problem with the developer continuing to add features to the game I just have a problem that they were not transparent to Consumers that they were purchasing an unfinished product.

Keep in mind that the feature is that it sounds like they're continuously adding all the junk that was kind of promised in the first place.

Imalwaysright3214d ago

What's admirable about releasing a broken game?

Avin19733214d ago

Comparing a full interactive game such as Witcher to NMS? You jest. I deleted that crap from my ps4 and won't install it anymore.

Rachel_Alucard3214d ago

Yeah lets count updates for an early access title and not only count the patches for a game thats been out since May 2015 but also combine all platforms into one number, because that's totally not some asinine levels of mental gymnastics and Stockholm syndrome.

3214d ago

Scatpants3214d ago

Why are you such a defender of this game? Whether they lied or not or people expected too much or not it is still average at best and dull and repetitive with ugly graphics at worst.

7 patches since launch, shows how they are prepared to support it (more so than some much bigger devs Batman Arkham Knight PC and Quantum Break PC spring to mind as they are as fixed as they will ever be), nothing to be ashamed of.

Imalwaysright3214d ago

The only thing that it shows is that they released a broken game.

pcz3214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

i dont think its about showing their support for the game, its more about avoiding lawsuits, and trying to save their business and reputation which would almost certainly be ruined after delivering a broken and incomplete game.

to not patch the game so relentlessly would be commercial suicide.

_-EDMIX-_3214d ago

How come they weren't prepared to be truthful to Consumers about the product?

I don't disagree I think it's great that the developer supports their game post-launch but my problem is they're spending a lot of time focusing on patching a game that is built upon lies I'll come none of this time is spent communicating to the consumers about what the actual game is in comparison to what they were shown in trailers?

None of the things you mentioned absolve this company from not being transparent to Consumers.

At the end of the day Arkham Knight and Quantum break we're still exactly what they were marketed to be in regards to Features, no man's sky is not.

The hate does not come from the game being under finished, the hate comes from the company's lack of transparency on something that is extremely fraudulent and when you have Demos in trailers of features that are inside a game that never make it to the final game and the all while the developer says absolutely nothing while they're pocketing your money.

Something is wrong.

donthate3214d ago

So support is measured in the number of patches in short time now?

Minor stability update incoming!

cleft53214d ago

So if they dont fix their game they are bad guys, but if they do fix their game its broken and they didnt do a good job. No pleasing people like you. People that probably played the game for 40+ hours and got a refund.

I am glad they are continuing to work on the game and I believe a year out this game will live up to what they promised. It's sad that the game wasnt what it should have been a launch and its good that people who are really upset managed to get refunds. For the rest of us, we can enjoy a chill game for what it is and what it will be.

Imalwaysright3214d ago

So you defend broken and incomplete games? No wonder that this industry is an anti-consumer joke. We get what we deserve.

Yetter3214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

They misrepresented what this game was, thats why they are bad guys. Its nice that they are trying to fix the broken mess but they've got a years worth of content patches to get this game up to the bar that Hello games has set

pcz3214d ago

if you pay somebody to paint and decorate your house, and when they say they are finished they have left entire walls unpainted, wallpaper hanging off the walls and paint all over the carpet, it doesnt matter if they spend the next month bringing it up to the standard they originally promised- the damage is already done.

_-EDMIX-_3214d ago

@pcz- agreed and an amazing analogy.

the reality is this team marketed openly and demoed this game to be something clearly the final version is not , I'm not even upset at that, I'm upset that they lied and we're not even transparent to Consumers on what the final game would entail in regards to those features.

Yet happily accepted people's money.

The issue is not that the game was unfinished because I would have no problem paying full-price knowing that what it's going tobe a work-in-progress I'm completely fine with that, my issue is that they were not transparent about this to Consumers lots of people bought this game based on what they seen from demos and trailers in from the damned directors mouth himself.

I was literally watching one of my friends play the game and I told them name their ship, as that something they could do...... only to ironically find out you can't even do that in the game. there was so much that I was finding out during my own damn play through that these people lied about to the point where there was no more defending.

If the game is unfinished let us know, if the game is an MMO in these features will come over time that's completely fine let us know, but to lie to me about the features is disheartening because it means that we're probably not even guaranteed to get those features in years to come , even me stating that it could be a work in progress is merely guessing.

if the company lied initially about this game's release, whos to say they wouldn't lie about upcoming content that never comes out? The sad part is is I'm merely saying theoretically it could be a work-in-progress we have no evidence to suggest that those features ever be in this game as hello games has not even acknowledged their lies regarding the game.

COMMENT-OF-THE-YEAR3214d ago

Cool! Lots of bug fixes. For a small studio they sure are fast af with patches. Still like this game regardless of all the hate.

jojo3193214d ago

I can't understand why people constantly bring up the size of the development team as a defense of a half baked game. It would be like hiring a guy to paint your house. You come home and it's a complete mess. The guy says "well I had my 7 year old son help me". So that makes it OK??? No. It's still a crappy paint job!

TimmermanV3213d ago

Except that you knew in advance you were hiring a 7 year old.

COMMENT-OF-THE-YEAR3213d ago (Edited 3213d ago )

Oh I wasn't making a statement defending the game ha ha! Said I liked the game and they are fast with patches.. I could care less if you don't like it to be honest. I enjoy the shit out of the game. What your opinion of the game is has no barring on my enjoyment or my statement.

That said. All games have issues when they are released regardless of peoples opinion. It's part of programming. My statement about them being a small studio isn't about your opinion of how it's a half baked or "It's still a crappy paint job" as they are mostly bug fixes and at the speed in which they are patching bugs in the game. All games have bugs. Even several weeks/months out. What I am saying is they are really fast for a small team to deploy bug fixes. You don't typically see bug fixes deployed so quick from bigger companies with bigger budgets/teams that release games.. That is what I am talking about.

You opinions to push a narrative on what makes it okay or if the game is good or not only really applys to you. While you think the things you do about the game and surely you have played many hours of it and have first hand experience to make these judgement has nothing to do with the frequency of fixing the bugs. One is bug fixes.. the other is your opinion. Big difference.

So does it make it okay? I'm not sure. But what I am sure of is that you don't determine whether I think it is or not. The developers job is to listen to criticisms and decide how they want to change the game depending on those criticisms through bug fixes and features. If they choose to try to make the product better for people.. isn't that a good thing? In many peoples minds on this site and other sites regardless if they played it or not is the opinion the game is bad just as many people like it.. Should they not try to make the game better for those who don't like it? Is that not what their job is?.. bug fixes are a good thing for both who do and don't like it as it fixes and alleviates issues that people might use to purchase or play the game.

iTechHeads3214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

He's absolutely right. They had one chance to make a good impression. Now no matter what they do, it will ever be enough. A lot of people just don't care anymore. They've moved on.

Rachel_Alucard3214d ago

You do some research. Both games suffered from poor design from the get go and Jay Wilson doubling his chin. The cancelled PVP in Diablo 3 was directly told to people when it happened and was explained that it would not be available at launch unlike NMS, which flatout said it was there with no corrections. Sean Murray flat out twisted words and lied directly in interviews and never bothered to correct info when things changed. The studio who made Driveclub was defunct, and I can see this following suit because I don't see them turning it into a service, at best they could develop a sequel which will most likely sell less due to the sour taste of the first.
