They did a poor job porting to the the PS3 X360, it appears with the X1 PS4 versions they cleaned up the jaggies, textures, lighting, so I preordered.

Darkwatchman3164d ago

The problem with the PS3/Xbox 360 remasters was they were HD ports of the ps2 version of resident evil 4 which had inferior lighting, textures, and effects to the GameCube version

FallenAngel19843164d ago

I guess because the GameCube version didn't have the Ada Wong missions

Darkwatchman3164d ago (Edited 3164d ago )

But then they could have done a simple thing...remaster the GameCube version's main game and include the ps2 version's assignment Ada missions and with the remaster, bring them up to snuff visually with the main game, but they went the lazy route instead

FallenAngel19843164d ago

Yeah but that's expecting even more effort from Capcom, and you know they'll put in the minamal amount of effort for profit

hiawa233163d ago (Edited 3161d ago )

The game played fine on the 360, my issue was the image quality. They should have cleaned up the jaggies, PS2 textures, lighting. Both PS3/x360 versions suffered from that.

Really? I've been wondering whether I should re-buy it on the PS3, seeing as I still have my PS2 copy (collector's steelbook at that!:D) already, and since it was one of those rare titles with widescreen support and a 60Hz option on the PS2, maybe I shouldn't bother with the PS3 version, I don't know, there doesn't seem to be a lot of improvements on the PS3 version, and I'm not even sure the extra content that was on the PS2 version made the jump on the PS3...?

stevansavic893164d ago

ahh Resident Evil 4,,the biggest multiplatform whore

Darkwatchman3163d ago

Speaking of which, the only version of Rahman 2 I ever played was the 3ds version and it's apparently a port of what people consider generally the best version of the game(the dreamcast version), but the framerate on 3ds is a little spotty.

I was hoping after replaying it on the new 3ds with the better CPU that it would run better, but no :(

Master of Unlocking3164d ago (Edited 3164d ago )

You must be talking about "Paperboy", I think

Master of Unlocking3163d ago (Edited 3163d ago )

WHAT?! Dammit! Paperboy has to be one of the biggest multiplatform whore in history, before even The Chessmaster or Tetris! My statement was correct, why am I getting a disagree? Some irate Paperboy fan I suppose...? Yeah, Paperboy is probably going down in history as the filthiest whore, deal with it!

shadowfax333164d ago

i still remember when shinji mikami said he will would kill himself if the game ported to systems other than gamecube...no wounder he left capcom :P

filchron3164d ago

You would think they could add some new shit to it like 1080p 3D at 60FPS per eye or 3rd Person PSVR support (not all VR titles have to be in 1st person) since PS4 has about 40x the power of a PS2. I never even thought these new HD remasters brought anything good to the table when these current consoles have about 8x-16x more power than the previous gen(PS3 and 360) just to have like a 2x increase in resolution

CorndogBurglar3164d ago

Doesn't 3rd person kind of defeat the purpose of VR?

filchron3164d ago

No, theres a Zelda like game for Oculus thats a VR exclusive and is in third person. doesnt 4K kind of have no purpose in theres no depth and no new 4K textures?
any game could benefit from a 3D perspective and with the added power of the new consoles why the hell wouldnt anybody want that? a 2x rez increase is boring AF personally. You can tell the people who disagreed with my post are boring ass people with weak ocular muscles.

CorndogBurglar3163d ago

Well I didn't say a single word about 4K....but okay lol.

I was simply saying that the point of VR is to make an environment that feels like you are actually there. At least that is what most people think of it, I would have to think. I mean, it says as much right in the name, Virtual Reality.

If you can see your character it kind of takes away from that experience, considering no one can see themselves from a 3rd person perspective.....unless they have really strong ocular muscles I suppose.

filchron3163d ago

I dont want EVERY VR game to be in 1st person just like I dont like every game on a 2D screen to be in 1st person. THAT simple. Look up that 3rd person oculus VR zeldaish adventure title and tell me it still isnt more immersive that a first person game on a 2D screen. You wont be able to because it still looks amazing. People are gonna get tired of all 3D experiences being in 1st person. Im already sick of it and I havent even tried the damn thing on yet. Why not give
people the option if the processing power is clearly there???

CorndogBurglar3163d ago

You have a point. I dont mean to sound like you don't. I guess I just never really thought of VR in that way, and like I said before, most people probably haven't.

Skate-AK3164d ago

Wow. Almost double the filesize of the PS3 version. Might actually be some better AA and texture increases.

Resident Evil 4 GameCube is 20 Years Old

The classic Resident Evil 4 GameCube release, the title that redfined the hugely popular series, debuted 20 years ago today.

Zeldafan64104d ago (Edited 104d ago )

Bought it the day it came out. Probably the most graphically impressive GameCube game.

cammers1995104d ago

Resident evil 1 remake looks better.

Zeldafan64104d ago (Edited 104d ago )

It looks great but it's also pre-rendered backgrounds in tight, enclosed spaces. From a technical perspective RE4 is more impressive.

Agent75104d ago

I'd say Resident Evil Zero which was canned on the Nintendo 64 and ported to the GameCube.

Neonridr104d ago

I still give it up to Factor 5 with Rogue Squadron 2 and 3. Those games look amazing still today. They squeezed a lot out of that box.

RE4 was no slouch either though.

Tacoboto104d ago

I think I'd give it to Metroid Prime and Echoes. 60fps with all those particle effects, and Samus' reflections.

The Remaster on Switch and Trilogy version on Wii are actually missing certain graphical effects.

__y2jb103d ago

The most influential game of all time. Along with the movie Aliens, it has shaped the industry.

Kassanova07103d ago

Bought a GameCube for Resident Evil. Everything else was just extra.

How Resident Evil 4 Continues to Shape Horror Gaming 20 Years Later

The gameplay and narrative influence on horror video games from Capcom's critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4 can still be felt 20 years later.

Didn't feel like a horror game.

Eidolon107d ago

I thought it shifted away from survival and horror, taking on a more action style, but in a good way.

goken107d ago

It did for me. The opening village segment was great and memorable.

It’s still horror, just not so much survival horror

ZeekQuattro107d ago

I still go back to this pretty much every year. Never gets old to me.

Eidolon107d ago

You HAVE to play it in VR, it's absolutely amazing.

DodoDojo107d ago

I'm hoping the updated version gets released on the next Switch, I'd love to have it portable.

Yui_Suzumiya107d ago

I'm sure all the REmakes and newer entries will be on Switch 2. Looking forward to it!

Didnt enjoy this as much as I thought I would of seeing how the orginal 4 is my favorite entry in the series next to RE 2. That's the better remake imo.

Nerdmaster112d ago

I agree. I bought the original 4 for GameCube, PS2, Wii and PC, played it countless times, but something about the remake just didn't really click with me. I finished it once, tried playing it again, but didn't go far the second time.
Meanwhile, in the original 4 I couldn't wait to replay it after finishing it.

Cacabunga111d ago

I bought it over a year and half ago and still didn’t bother to play it.. I will wait until there is nothing to play to try it.

RE2 is a great game! Gave me the oldschool vibes

Army_of_Darkness111d ago

RE4 remake is amazing, however, I feel Shooting is a little more difficult compared to the original... Like there's a delay I can't seem to get use too which frustrates me because I can't get consistent head shots.

Concertoine112d ago

I like some aspects of the design in RE2R but the sewer level is a big drag on repeat playthroughs for me. RE4 doesn’t have a dull moment imo. It’s super fun to replay.

Storm23112d ago

Interesting. I loved the original like crazy and loved the remake also. Haven't played RE2 remake. It's on my crazy long list of games to play.

gleepot112d ago

Don't worry, you can have a bad opinion.

-Foxtrot111d ago

I liked both of them the same

Resident Evil 4 Remake was fantastic to the point the only nitpick I can give it when comparing it to the original is Ada's new voice actor who was so bad. The original might have had some cheesy voice acting and dialogue but Sally Cahill was a better Ada 20 years ago.

Just finished this on Jan 1st. Intense final stretch! Game still holds up. 👍

Chocoburger112d ago

Just got done playing a session on PSVR 2. Its a lot of fun and a worthy remake of the original Mikami masterpiece. I'll play more tomorrow! 😁

Babadook7112d ago

I really really loved it on PSVR2. Personally RE8 is my favourite though.

legendkilla112d ago

I've been having a blast playing in VR too!

generic-user-name111d ago

TLOU2 sold 10m in less time and on PS4 only. Many Druckmann haters like to pretend it's a flop and that Japanese games like this are what the people want.

-Foxtrot111d ago

What's that got to do with Resident Evil?

I'll bite though. TLOU2 got 4 million at launch and yet it then suddenly took them 2 years to get to that 10 million despite the great momentum at the start. Also unlike other games released around the same time frame like Doom Eternal, FFVII Remake, Ghost of Tsushima etc it was discounted a lot earlier and more discounted in comparison. I remember seeing it online that following December at GAME for like £19.99 and when it came to the PSN it was also reduced more compared to some others.

God of War 2018 resulted in 3.1 million at launch (a figure lower that TLOU2 at launch), however in ONE year it was revealed to have reached 10 million copies sold.

Ghost of Tsushima, a brand new IP, managed to get 9.73 million sales within 2 years and that only released a month after TLOU2. That's super close to 10 million and with the game being brand new it had no fanbase already backing it in terms of hype and anticipation.

Yeah 10 million is a great number but lets not kid ourselves, with the hype and love for that franchise I bet you any money Sony were anticipating it to have done a lot bigger with how much was going for it. It's not a failure in the traditional sense but Sony were clearly hoping to get a lot more sales within that time frame.

generic-user-name87d ago

Apologies for the long delay, I was away. Anyway, Doom/Ghost/FFVIIR etc didn't have to deal with a massive, malicious leak that spread a 4chan false narrative about the game and spoiled huge key moments in a game that was mostly anticipated for its story. To still hit 10m despite all of that going against it in 1.5 years and on PS4 only, was a triumph. God of War 2018 was brought down to $40 within 6 months of launch permanently (Oct 2018), but this fact is never brought up when TLOU2 price cuts are for some reason.

Meanwhile the remake for the greatest horror of all time (allegedly), Silent Hill 2, just now hits 2 million after 3 months on 3 platforms and this is a celebration.
