Microsoft signs HD movie deal with Lionsgate

Microsoft's digital content push continues to gather pace on the Xbox 360, with the announcement that Lionsgate has signed up to supply hi-def films via the Xbox Live Video Marketplace.
The distributor of movies such as Blair Witch Project, Crank, Saw III and Hard Candy now joins the likes of MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. in benefiting from the burgeoning service.

"This partnership is great for Lionsgate. The Xbox gamer is the same moviegoer who wants to watch Saw III or Crank," commented Jon Ferro, executive vice president for Lionsgate.

"That is why we are so thrilled to bring Lionsgate films to Xbox Live Video Marketplace. Bringing our content to this audience makes perfect sense and reflects our commitment to remain at the cutting edge of content distribution to new media platforms," he added.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it ironic that a Vancouver based company (Lionsgate - yes, I'm aware they have offices in Cali too but they're based out of Canada) can't distribute content to Canada but only the USA? Microsoft needs to get this fixed.

Music and Video download services fall under the same laws that *protect* canadians from other forms of american content distribution such as satellite TV, TiVO, and the full catalog of
Before MS can distribute content outside the US it needs to jump through several extra sets of hoops that aren't required for US distribution.

Translation: don't blame MS, blame the Canadian government "protecting" you from yourself.

Good thing we aren't "protected" from foreign innovation that way.

this is the best news ive heard in a while. i went to imdb to see what movies lionsgate had and its a very impressive list. it seems like every good horror movie i buy is with lionsgate. here's some movies to get excited about:
