Metroid Prime: Federation Force Review for 3DS - NintendoEnthusiast

When Metroid Prime: Federation Force was showcased for the 3DS at E3 2015, the internet wasn’t very pleased with what they saw. “A Metroid game not starring Samus? Disaster from the day we saw it in action. Nintendo needs to stop joking around. Super Metroid and Metroid Prime catapulted the franchise to gaming excellence.

Samus needs to return and with Retro Studios at the helm.

Could see this was trash from the gate. Looked like a Chinese knockoff iPhone game with chibi federation dudes. Terribad.

A good spin-off, but not what Metroid fans wanted, and in the end, that's why this will bomb.
Ironically, this could have been a success, if they had announced it as a small-time prequel to lead into the release of Prime 4. An appetizer instead of the main dish, a small hold-over, that could have even linked up to Prime 4 to give players extra benefits for having played Fed Force.

It's sad that they did it this way, because it was the worst way they could have done it. They basically sent this title out to die, and I will be HIGHLY surprised if this gets anywhere close to 100k within the first six months of its release, let alone the first one or two months.

Maybe this will teach Nintendo that spin-offs cannot be used to substitute for proper main-line titles, when the main line is overdue for a new entry.
