Why we don't think we're any closer to borderless console gaming.

Not my cup of tea for many reasons .
seems like both companies like the concept but don't really like the concept & will always find fault no matter what.

Sony was ready to do cross platform play last gen. Why should sony do cross platform gen now when they are the market leader in gaming now. Ps4 has more than double the total hardware sales of the xbox one and its the best gaming console ever. Microsoft wasnt into the idea of cross platform gaming last gen but now they have lost to sony with the xbox one which is a lesser system and inferior platform they are into the idea now.sony shouldnt even consider cross platform play with microsoft. Remember all the shenanigans microsoft reps did last gen about sales figures only in the US and other things. All fanat-X talks about now is scorpio, lol. A System due out 14 months from now which will continue the massive beating of xbox being outsold by the playstation and the playstation getting more exclusive titles.

Personally I hope it never happens but if it does happen they need to make sure its only 3rd party games .
Also I don't care for the other platform and never will , am good with Xbox & Nintendo . But you enjoy the system you prefer .

No thanks I think most folks could give a flying F on this concept of cross console play.

See of course microsoft wants to remove one of the barriers to buying an Xbox one, all of their friends are on the ps4. If you could suddenly play cross console then buying the same consoles as your friend is not as important.

Reality is that we got 2/3 of the way there, with both devs and MS on board. The only one not playing ball is Sony!

All Sony need to do is say yes, and Psyonix will flip the switch.

Maybe we will get cross-play between Xbox and Nintendo before we get Sony on board.

It seems very likely. Minecraft in particular is crossing boundaries, even to iOS with Apple previously taking the stance they didn't want anything on their store even crossing with Android.

I'd bet Nintendo would allow the same title to do so as they now have a version of Minecraft for WiiU as well. However Nintendo is currently staying quiet on the matter while Sony dishes out a no.

funny how so many said sony was all for it years ago but in reality they never were when it came to cross-play with other consoles. nintendo actually was all for it with pure chess but once again sony didn't respond,

"...They said, 'Yep, no problem. You can have other console players playing against Wii U players. You can have smartphone players play against them. No problem,'" Gaskell told Eurogamer. "We're still talking to Sony about them relaxing their policies, but we don't think they'll have any issue with it. So when we launch Pure Chess, you'll be able to play against Wii U, 3DS, iOS and Android players. And when we patch PlayStation, those consoles will be added to the mix as well."

Sony is the only platform holder with games that have crossplay on every other current gen console and mobile device other than XBO.... Sure, one of them is only Chess, but that flies in the face of your comment there.

As to the topic at hand, Sony should just give in an do it. I don't think they gain anything by holding it back.

franwex3223d ago

Yeah, you can't even talk on Nintendo. Or add strangers you meet online. They will never do crossplay

Saw this comment coming as soon as I saw the article.

No thanks.
The north remembers when xbox flat out refused last gen but people want it this gen due to xbox saying they are open to it? Hows f*ck off xbox sound? Dont even play my xbone anymore pc and ps4 for me and dont have issues playing games online with them.

TheUndertaker853223d ago

Microsoft did state no but due to policies in place for 360 that no longer in place. Likely due to big wigs coming and going in that time.

EpicSandwich3223d ago

You sound like a very upset person. I'd love to slap xbox people online. Just imagine how many more people will be on and how quickly we will find games. Ps servers aren't always full sometimes I'm waiting 5-10 for some mp games and that problem will disappear with cross play

Last generation Sony open to cross platform play. Xbox refused outright because of their install base.

Now the tables are turned Sony is holding back.

Obviously a business decision and I do not blame either of the two not wanting it when they are in the lead.

Season Passes definitely split the community up.

I find with BF1 that because the game modes were split into different sections of the DLC, the players would be spread across this.

If they allow for all DLC to be free added content (like Titanfall 2) then we would be able to play all maps and modes as a collective community.

Ya and with nothing holding back people from purchasing those titles, community's will grow. It's win win tbh. It's not like EA are hurting for those few extra dollars.
