Aug Lives Matter was inspired by other events in human history, not Black Lives Matter.
Well, I don't feel offended. But I do understand how the world is gonna be. Remember what I said about Black vs White, there will be another one like this. We human will against augmented human who call themselves a new race in the future. One day, some of us want to be stronger and will remove our human limb.
Blm offend me. They are a terrorist and professional victims organisation. They don't pipe up when faced with facts like the number 1 killer of black people is other black people. And the fact police kill more white people per year than black people.
Police should be held by higher standards than mere thugs. Police are supposed to serve and protect. A thug is a thug. Two very different things. Police kill more white people in hard numbers. But they are also the vast majority. If you look at the percentages you will see that black people are about 50% or more likely to be shot by the police than a white person even though they are less than 15% of the population. let me put it this way maybe you'll understand. Lets say you have a group of 10 white people. and a group of two black people. If a cop shoots 2 white people. that's 20% of the white group. If the cop shoots 1 black person. that's 50% of the black group,It means if you're in the black group you're 50% more likely to be shot by the police, even though they only make up 17% of the total. Now scale that up to see the bigger picture. I'm black and I don't live in the US. So idgaf about your problems, I know I'm safe where I am. But you're skewing your facts.
Not at all, not some baby that can't take a joke, criticism, or whatever other meaningless crap people cry over.
I take Augs lives matter more serious that that stupid black lives matter movement
Everyone's life's matter.
Tha'ts racist /s
Saying Everyone's Lives matter as response to Black lives matter is like going to the doctor with a broken bone and then the doctor tells you all bones matter, yes, all bones matter but that doesn't fix my broken bone!
Why is it "stupid black Lives matter"? Just because theres some morons in the movement taking it to the extreme. I dont see how its stupid. We wouldn't be talking about Aug lives matter or All Lives Matter. To you it might be stupid but Im sure there are some who believe otherwise.
It's stupid because when a black live kills another black live then all of a sudden it doesn't matter and no one protests, it's stupid because it only applies whenever a white person kills a black one and they pull the race card and blame whites for all their problems, instead of looking at themselves in the mirror and accepting that they are the problem.
Saying Everyone's Lives matter as A response to Black lives matter is like going to the doctor with a broken bone and then the doctor tells you all bones matter, yes, all bones matter but that doesn't fix my broken bone!
These comments are just what I expected from people. It's the fact that this was used so frivolously that got people's attention. It was a very lazy attempt to blur the lines between what they're going for in the game with real life, but it doesn't work because there was no thought behind it. AUGS LIVES MATTER just comes off as a joke. It cheapens a real life thing that centers around a very serious problem in this country. THAT is the issue, not just the fact they did it. Deus Ex is better than this, but of course, once again, you're not allowed to be offended by anything, or else you're being too sensitive. Because this is such a great and caring world we live in, right? How does anyone better the entire human race if you're just supposed to turn your back, every single time something comes up? Or am I doing it wrong, are you just not supposed to care? I'm offended by how lazy the attempt was, not the fact that they tried to relate.
Ironically Aug Lives Matter is more meaningful than the actual BLM movement which is based on lies.
So you're saying an entire portion of the human race doesn't matter? It's a lie? Ok.
Exactly, more white people are killed by cops, that's fact. However the media chooses not to report that because it won't get them the same views.
@meka2611...it's not about the raw number, it's about the proportions. There are far less black people than white people in America. Yet, blacks are anywhere from 3-5 times more likely to get shot by cops. Up to 10 times more likely to get stopped by cops and are sentenced up to 7 times more harshly. Read the DOJ reports coming out of Baltimore and Ferguson and you can see that there is quite a lot going on. Also, this doesn't give them the right to threaten or harm cops. edit: @Herpo...I agree with some of what you are saying. However, I NEVER attributed any of this to "WHITE PEOPLE". Oh, and we don't really have accurate data on the rate of commission of crimes because there is disparate policing community to community. But, I will agree that poverty, education, drugs...basically systemic issues are the root of the cause.
@Iceman come on now don't stop there if you're going to cite statistics. You know what comes next. Black people commit more crimes in proportion to their population. Oh damn it I'm a racist now aren't I? And why are they committing more crimes? Poverty, education, family issues, drug abuse and gangster culture are all issues issues that need to be looked at, NOT WHITE PEOPLE. Racism is a separate issue.
What lies is it based on?
@iceman06 I agree it is all about proportions. First be exact the gap of 3-5 times can be broad and seems like a number you picked out of thin air or repeat from a story you read. Those aren't the true numbers. For example, 3 to 5 can mean if 5 white people are killed anywhere from 15 to 25 black people would be killed. That means you have possible 66% increase from 3 to 5. Your data is even more suspect to breed a false narrative because it does note the crime rate among blacks compared to whites equals out your equation. What that means is that even though blacks represent around 13% of the population and whites around 72% blacks represent the same percentage of crime committed as if they were that white population (total black crimes = total white crimes). Let's not take my word for it let some actual studies do it for me: Now blacks even exceed whites in actual violent crime. According to the DOJ. Despite making up just 13% of the population, blacks commit around half of homicides in the United States. DOJ statistics show that between 1980 and 2008, blacks committed 52% of homicides, compared to 45% of homicides committed by whites. OK that 2008 not up to date enough for you. Here is one FBI statistics tell a similar story. In 2013, black criminals carried out 38% of murders, compared to 31.1% for whites, again despite the fact that there are five times more white people in the U.S. Despite the fact that black people commit an equal or greater number of violent crimes than whites, whites are almost twice as likely to be killed by police officers. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control, between 1999 and 2011, 2,151 whites died as a result of being shot by police compared to 1,130 blacks. All this percentages and false narratives that people scream about, like 3 to 5 times more likely to be shot by cops, reminds me of story about disparity of racial representation in tech companies that was the high point at the beginning of this year. I remember Jesse Jackson and others getting on Microsoft case about how whites represented 62% of their work force and blacks only 6%. It was a good story to show how blacks were not fairly represented. That was until someone pointed out that whites represent 72% of this country and blacks represented 13% of the population. It turned out that the whites were more under represented in Microsoft workforce (underrepresented 10% compared to 6%) . So yeah it all about proportions.
of course more white people are killed by cops you numbskull. there are more of us. my god, gamers are getting dumber and dumber by the year
I actually think that the devs would have done themselves a favor by just saying that they DID take inspiration and then explain how that works with the struggle of Augs. At least, it explains that it wasn't just a trivial, thrown-in decision and actually might have some merit. Right now, just saying it's "coincidence", makes it seem trivial. (and it might be in comparison to other things that they are attempting to explore with the narrative). Either way, a little thought and explanation is better than nothing. I don't find it's use offensive. It's part of a growing history of discrimination (in reality and in the lore of the game). It's more offensive that, if we believe the devs, they missed an opportunity to explore this more in terms of how Augs have come to be treated in their world.
It's a new deus ex game, I'm pretty sure they didn't need to resort to anything for attention.
Exactly this. I don't understand how a marketing team or dev would be dumb enough to use something like this in the current climate. There are far more ways to get a narrative theme across w/o piggy backing on actual social & civil movements, this just cheapens both parties in my eyes. First the controversy behind the pre order program, now this is very likely to cause its own controversy, none of these conversations are about the actual game itself. Sad that we live in an age where successful marketing isn't the one that represents its product to the best of its ability, it's the one that causes the most outrage & internet conversation about everything other than the product itself. I'd typically think it was a lack of confidence in the game, but I'm sure that's not the case w/ a series like Deus Ex. The line doesn't even roll off the tongue, it's not clever, it's not catchy & I'm willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that it won't be representative of the most prevalent actual themes in the games by the end of it, aside from the most sweeping generalized way.
It's promotional material, not even a trailer, it's supposed to be lazy. And I wouldn't even call it that, as it does a good job telling some of the basics of the plot in just 3 words by relating it to real world events. And how does it cheapen BLM? By comparing it to a serious real life issue when "it's just a video game"? If that's the case you're trying to make then you clearly don't respect video games enough as an art form and probably should find more enjoyable things to do with your time than spend it on a website dedicated to something you don't have any respect for. These are fictional worlds, not documentaries. They don't need to put in some huge effort to make sure they're tackling what they're referencing with 100% accuracy or make sure they're not offending the most easily offendable thin skinned pansies (who get offended at everything because it's in their nature, not because the thing they're offended by is actually offensive). This is a game that takes its story seriously, it's not making fun of BLM, it's just using promo material to give people an idea that the issues/story in the game is SOMEWHAT similar to what's going on in real life. Persecution of a certain group of people. Just because it's fictional does not mean it's cheap or lazy.
No but I'm offended by Black Lives Matter which is one of the most dishonest real world political movements to come around in a generation.
Yeah sure. Just like the Black Panther movement and Nation of Islam. All created on political dishonesty right?
Let's do a little logic...All lives matter IF AND ONLY IF black lives matter, white lives matter, blue lives matter, etc. THAT is the actual point of contention that people don't see or agree with. Black Lives Matter basically has an implied "Too" on the end.
Except BLM use their "Cause" as an excuse to burn down buildings and shut down highways. Not a single racist person has changed to thinking Black Lives Matter now, but I know for a fact that BLM has pushed many people to the racist side after seeing how BLM acts. Edit: There are Jewish Nazis, Black KKK members and a ton of Gay Fundamentalist Christians. The "I have black/white/latino/etc friends" doesn't excuse racist behavior that BLM has displayed. I should point out that if BLM stuck with actual issues of police reform chances are they wouldn't be in this situation. But randomly screaming "Cops are racist" while screaming "Kill Whitey" and "Pigs in a Blanket" won't achieve anything and is just increasing tensions. There needs to be a non-partison/non-racially charged movement/organization focusing on reforming police through body cameras/getting rid of quotas etc.
But there's also an implication of bigotry and subjugation towards them, which by and large, is not true.
@FreeSpeech69...BLM don't use their cause...but there are people that use these protests as a means to exact revenge. They are disaffected, young, and ignorant of what they are doing and more importantly why they are doing it. But, as I said before, are not inductive of BLM. As for the rest, yeah, racists aren't going to change. Nor is BLM trying to change racists. If you can be "pushed" toward being racist based on the actions of a few. Then you were probably a bigot to begin. Using BLM, or anything, to justify hating another race is pretty simpleminded and is an excuse to say and do what you always believed. @Redx165...How are they racists when there are white, latino, and asians involved with BLM? BLM can't create a racist. But, people with bigoted views can and have used that as an excuse.
From what I've seen over the internet that isn't close to the truth. BlackLivesMatter is a group of racist blacks looking to blame others for their problem while also calling for the deaths of Police. Not caring about the families of the love ones who are affected. The only thing BlackLivesMatter has done is create more racists in and out of the group.
Because they're misinform brainwashed kids believing that white men have a privilege in this country. Heck your movement openly causes harm on white men. https://www.youtube.com/wat... https://www.youtube.com/wat... #BlackLivesMatter is this decades version of the KKK.
Saying All Lives matter as response to Black lives matter is like going to the doctor with a broken bone and then the doctor tells you "all bones matter", yes, all bones matter but that doesn't fix my broken bone!
Nope and the people that are need to realize this world doesn't revolve around only them.
Deus Ex has hinted at the divisions of race, ideology, wealth, religion and technology for over a decade. This is nothing new. WTO vs Order Knights Templar vs Omar
Exactly...so why not embrace it as part of the narrative instead of citing "coincidence"!? All they had to do was explain what you just did.
No. Not offended by much anymore. I grew up!
Not offended in the slightest I am offended by this pussy generation though where you can even drop a pen with upsetting people
Uh, no. The only thing I'm upset about is the now-agonising wait for this game, I need it NOW!
It's 2016. Breathing is offensive to someone somewhere because "its killing plants!!!"
If you are offended by it, no one should care. To paraphrase Steve Hughes, nothing happens when you are offended. You are just offended.
The game does take place in the future so I can understand how a movement could be inspired by black lives matter. I don't believe the game is taking that as a joke or anything. I'm not offended by it but I know that some will be.
"You have offended my family, and you have offended the shaolin temple"
Offence is taken not given
I'm offended they acknowledge Blacklivesmatter as a legitimate movement at all.
I'm offended they actually acknowledge Blacklivesmatter as a legitimate movement https://www.youtube.com/sha...
