Updated: We have confirmation that the 2-Step verification process is live. Screenshots from one of our writers, showing the entire process from start to finish.
It's way past the point of being thankful for it, but incredibly useful going forward.
Wait... really? It's never too late to improve and to at least acknowledge the improvement. You can't bitch about what they don't have and then when they add it ignore that it is now available. I'm glad they have it. Thank you, Sony. Yeah, it could have been a lot sooner, but the other option is to never have it.
I think it's in the T&Cs of having a PSN account that you are solely responsible for what happens to it, even if a breach is not your fault. 2FA is an extra step to secure your account. There have been PSN account compromises that would never have happened had Sony targeted this industry-wide feature as important enough long ago, like many other huge corporations that offer online services. I didn't say I was going to ignore it. Of course I'm going to use it. What I mean by being not being thankful for it is in the sense of extending my thanks. I will take it now it's available but they're not getting "thanks Sony, awesome news" from me. This stuff should have been done as STANDARD years ago in the interests of the security of their customers, especially after the 2011 hack.
So each time when I will launch my console I will have to write the code from sms? Won't there be something like in battlenet or steam, to remember your login location and if it will change, than request the code?
It probably depends on how you have it set up. For me, I'd enable it for all PSN purchases and that's it.
Only if you actually sign out of your PSN account each time you turn your console off by the looks of it, if you don't sign out manually then you should be ok.
Okay, the world is a little safer now :)
So what if you dont have a mobile number?
Get one if you want 2-step verification? @MagicBeanz It should be.
So is 2-step verification optional?
@MagicBeanz Two-stop verification is always optional, I believe.
I think so, yes.
I hope it's optional, I don't feel like doing it.
I recommend you to do it, just incase.
Mobile Authentication is terrible. Most of the recent twitter/youtube hacks have been through abusing mobile providers to send out sim card replacements to hackers, with this they can then access your mobile number and access your account.
What's your gamertag?
And external hard drive support still hasn't happen
more than likely not a priority to them, as the only people who bring it up alot of the times are trolls
Or people who own 90% of PS4 library.. I already put a 2tb in the ps4 but need more space
Ext HD support is not a big priority. Just delete the games you have finished. Do you really play 2TB of games all at the same time? No point having games you have already finished and no longer playing, still on the HD. Just delete. If you want to replay a particular game again in 1 years time, you can just redownload, or reinstall from the disc again.
Exactly. ....2tbs is more than enough for right now. Flex those management skills that's all
maybe some people do not want to delete . I for one want ext hd support. you like to delete thats your right, so speak for your self
SMS only ... they release a feature that should have been there for years, then they screw it up by not making it more available. Not everyone has a cellphone Sony.
60% of the population had cell phones in 2014 almost 70% by 2019. Get yourself a cell phone lol
I shouldn't have to, receiving a code via email should also be a thing. Also, SMS 2 step verification is about to be declared unsafe and illegal.
Looking at their track record It'll probably take them another year or two to implement an option via email verification. Sony should hire some competent people to fix everything that is wrong with PSN yesterday. It's ridiculous how long it takes them to figure out and implement the most basic features especially when considering the PS+ revenue they have at their disposal.
If u don't have a cell, I'm gonna guess u also don't have jacksh!t to steal anyway
Yes I like doing the 2 step.
They probably will sell off your personal number.
Which company that has your data doesn't do this?
Welcome to 2010 Sony
internet explorer, is that you?
No. Its Netscape. Jeez
Not yet where I live tho....
This is for New Zealand and Australia only at this time, should have been added to the title of the article.
My account was just hacked last week - and to all the (Sony employees?) people who always say it was my fault for a variety of reasons - it was a unique, super strong password, that no one knew except me (not even my wife), it wasn't used on any other site, and my PS4 has never left my house, and I've never done game lending or w/e that is. Glad to see this. Sony did credit my account with the $20 they spent, and let me reset my password with a link, and it took 3 total days. Not too bad.
And you've never used it to logon via the website? I'm sure you have and you probably got it stolen that way.
Now if they only roll out some Neo specs that would be nice.
From the hack in 2010 or whenever it was, I told myself I'd never keep cc info on psn account, ever. I buy psn cards on amazon
