Long lost PS4 game Rime back on track with new publishing deal, going multi-platform

Rime is coming, and not just to PS4. Rime is set to be published by Grey Box, the publisher arm of Six Foot responsible for Grey Goo and Dreadnought. According to a press release, Rime “will debut on gaming platforms in 2017”.

Awesome, game looked really good.

The fake footage trailers looked awesome! Unfortunately the real game is in development hell and I doubt it will ever see the light of day

Erik73573237d ago

I think it will but I will be shocked if it looks any close to what they showed in the trailers

mark_parch3236d ago

if it turns out like the fake footage then it could do well.

ULTp0ltergeist3236d ago

Exactly, now that's it's out of Sony's control. Now they can launch sooner on PC and other platforms.

lelo2play3237d ago

I'm surprised Sony let this game go... unless there weren't very confident about the game.

rainslacker3237d ago

Game seemed like it was in some sort of development hell, although the specifics weren't really known. Once the confirmation came out that the first reveal was all pre-rendered CGI, it kind of made it seem this game wasn't really that far along. My guess is Sony pulled out because it wasn't moving along at an appropriate pace, or the devs just couldn't get it to work with the budget that was allocated by Sony, or in the worst case scenario, early parts of the game just weren't that good. Sony exercised it's option to back out for unknown reasons, but if the game was going along well, they wouldn't likely back out, since the game looked like it had potential, and games like this often make a nice home for themselves on the PS consoles.

Apparently when they tried it out a few months ago they said it was boring and there was nothing special about the game.

My name was never actually meant to be about Rime XD

TheCommentator3236d ago

Rime has a new scheme to go multiplatform now, but time will tell if they fix their issues or not (see what I did there? ;P).

rdgneoz33236d ago

There was info written a while ago about it. That the original trailer was all cgi and they weren't able to come close to being done by the time the were dropped. Also, the chairwoman is the head guys wife and she has 0 background in game development, and is a public notary... Most devs from their previous game have left. The reason it has continued is by getting funds from the Spanish government (think Schilling screwing over the Rhode island government).

ninsigma3236d ago

Me too. They usually go for this sort of thing. To me, something seems seriously wrong. Look at the amount of time they gave tlg. As much as I hate to say it because I was so hyped for this game, I don't think this one will turn out as good as I hoped.

rezzah3236d ago

I dont care, as long as it is released.

Nice to see that the game is still going. Sony wouldn't have pulled out of the deal without good reason, but at least this means gamers on all platforms may be able to enjoy it.

Weren't these the guys who were ripping off SONY claiming that they were still in development for a long time, and eventually cried them a river when SONY pulled the plug on the project?

If I remember correctly even Microsoft dumped this project at one point in time and Spencer talked about it later. I can see why both SONY & MS distancing themselves away from this IP now.

MasterCornholio3236d ago (Edited 3236d ago )

Microsoft supported this project first?

Can I have a link please?

I would really like to read about that kind of thing.

@Code

Thank you.

TheVigilanteCode3236d ago

The game was pitched to Microsoft first and it got rejected. SONY picked it up, along with the ownership of the IP if it were completed/released, later. It's the reason this studio got back it's IP rights from SONY, after presumably some monetary settlements in dev costs that SONY paid for.

5 Bad Switch Ports That Should Not Have Happened

Greysun writes:

The Nintendo Switch gets bombarded with many, many ports. But most of them actually run pretty well, with only a couple that we would call bad Switch ports.

While I agree with the majority on this list Bloodstained is far from a bad port. Sure it doesn't run as fast as the other more powerful machines and has some sacrifices made to the graphics to keep the game running smooth. But some of the errors that are being mentioned can be patched and addressed. The game is still fun to play, it's not like it's broken or anything.

King_Noctis2183d ago

Ark should have never been released the way it is on the Switch. The game is so so bad.

It's purely down to the incompetence of the Devs. Just go and look at how more demanding games have successfully been ported to Switch and then you have proof that these are just poorly done.
