The first 5 hours of No Man’s Sky changed my opinion of the game | Reviews | Geek.com

Geek: I hate to say it, but the hype is real.

There is more positive than negative about this game and reviews are good. I honestly don't know what is the passion of some people to make this game fail. What is going on with today's gaming industry?

Why would you unnecessary hate on a project that is a dream come true to 8 people working on an independent studio? Just because is not on your console of choice? Also the media has been very unprofessional. They don't care to destroy the same industry that is paying their salaries right now. Crazy.

I have a PS4 and I don't like this game. Got it yesterday. Played a few hours and I think I'm returning it today. It's just not fun in my opinion.

gamerswin243234d ago

I have a Ps4 and after i played my daily Uc4 mp sessions (trying to get past gold tier lol) i played NMS and enjoyed it. It was different enough and a change of pace. I also felt bad %ss traveling in space (love how they did space travel). Some things feel too tedious and empty but other things make up for it like certain aspects of crafting, exploration, space travel and meeting new animals and aliens :)

You see we have differing views. I had fun with it but i respect you did not.

AnubisG3234d ago

Good for you. Some people love the game others might not. I think no one is wrong for having a different opinion. Only the ones who can't accept different opinions. Thank you for respecting an opposing opinion. Only if other's on this site had as much sense as you do.

I spent my first three hours on my same first planet before even exiting the atmosphere. There was something about, "Oh, I'd better go see what that is real quick," that kept me glued to it. Now, I'm mining between a few different planets (all named according to most abundant valuable resource) so that I can either find or purchase a much better ship. (And there's that last species I'm determined to discover on "Planet Zero".)

Plenty to do for me. I've already got seven hours in the game, and I haven't even left the first star system.

medman3234d ago (Edited 3232d ago )

I think it's turning out to be a polarizing game, but that's fine to me. Better a game stir emotion one way or the other, than to get no reaction at all. From what I've played (about five hours so far), I'm enjoying it. I haven't flown to outer space yet...I've been fascinated by what I'm finding on my home world.

Will that sense of wonder last? I guess that will determine my feelings on the game over the long run, but I'm the type of gamer that loves to explore and discover the undiscovered things a game world may be hiding, and in No Man's Sky as long as there is tremendous variety in what is to be found out there, I should be playing it for a very long time.

The author says "all I can think about is how much I want to go back and explore some more." I could not possibly agree more. After my first session late last night I went to bed thinking about the game and what lay ahead, all the beacons I've seen that needed to be explored, and I thought about the game and the prospect of playing more when I woke in the morning and it brought a smile to my face.

iceman063234d ago

I don't think the problem is opposing views. The issue is that there seems to be people on some sort of negativity crusade. They basically pick a game apart that they have "no interest" in.
It's all fine for people to have opinions. It's fine to express said opinions. But, if you have to show up every time someone says something about the game to express your negativity, then it seems like you are just being bothersome. (none of this directed at you, by the way) I don't know if it's immaturity or insecurity, but it gets old...and that's with games on any console. It just so happens that it's on PS4 and PC this time around.

How do u return an open game

nveenio3234d ago

@daynnight365

By never owning it in the first place, apparently.

AnubisG3234d ago

@inveni0

You assume too much and you couldn't be more wrong.

At least you gave it a shot and tried it.

@King_Lothric as much as i love dark souls 3 , i have to say your irritation is completely random .. or should I ask permission to say I do not like a game / concept / graphics / whatever : if I do not like that game / concept / graphics / whatever.

what is crazy ?
i really do not like this game , should i ask permission to discuss it ?

enjoy whatever the game you like , speak free, peace.

About the media : the hype that we've had surrounding this game is quite very much higher then the *only partially* neg review it is having ..it just may be needed you adjust your perception . one medicine is to play the game you like and be happy whatever the hype or neg reviews and media , then eventually to say if the game was worth or not ..I' m not a reviewer : I usually surf reviews but sure do not give them the credit i give to my pleasure, when I'm playing the game i wanted to buy and play ..

As someone who loves NMS, I think this game is ripe for division, exactly like what we're seeing.

If this game just kinda suddenly came out and we found out about it at launch, like Proteus, we'd appreciate it for being so freaking different and for *not* meeting the expectations of the average gamer in service of something more. But it's a product - one that had to be advertised, one that needed preorder bonuses, because the budget wasn't indie-tier at all, they had to pay for it. Think less Star Citizen and more Gone Home, but with the marketing of Tomb Raider 2013.

I think a lot of the more sensible media out there are being absolutely fine with NMS. They're giving it time and playing through a lot of it before making a decision. There are a select few out there who, due to a lack of money or a Twitter pitchfork mob most likely, have a sense of urgency that forces them to try to blow through the game or experience it all in one go for a quick review. NMS doesn't seem like it's a game that warrants a quick review. Quite a few readers want quick reviews because they're your average game consumers, foaming at the mouth to pre-order the next big thing because of FOMO or whatever else.

When you play through it, it's so evident that NMS was never meant for the hype cycle it was in, or any traditional advertising. It's not for everyone, but it's something I think everyone should experience at some point. Heck, even the developer called it "niche" on day zero.

It's a game that *I* love, and a game that a ton of people are going to absolutely hate.

iiorestesii3234d ago

The passion comes from the combination of a desire to play the game with out accessibility to it.

LastCenturyRob3234d ago

Why is there passion for some to desperately want to see X1 or WiiU games rate poorly?...fanboy trolls are fanboy trolls no matter which console they play on.

mogwaii3234d ago

So people cant have an opinion on this game unless its positive?! Right.
I have been waiting for this game since it was announced and after one day of playing it its already feeling monotonous, great idea just rather boring.

I think this game is actually sounding more interesting to me bc of the lack of structure. I love this you figure it out type thing without any hand holding.

Kirchh773234d ago

It's exactly that. It's a game where u choose a direction and just go. U can follow the atlas path to give u a sense of what's going on but it's a choice they give u. I have no idea what direction I headed off in after leaving my first planet.

Very nice article Tony Polanco. Its good to know I wasn't the only one that had pretty much the same feelings as you did "before release" of No Man's Sky. It just didn't seem like it would be a game that I would be into very much. I thought it was actually a multiplayer based game and here its not. (See how much I have researched the game pre launch, LOL). But thanks to good articles like this that just gives a good first take on the game.......I'm looking to see if I have the funds to purchase the game today. Nice article.

No Man's Sky (Switch 2) - Hello Games' Classic Without Cuts Or Concessions | NintendoLife

"No Man's Sky - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition brings this excellent, constantly evolving space survival adventure to your new Nintendo console in fine style. This is an almost-perfect match for other versions of the game, barring some very minor hiccups here and there.

Combat is still a bit naff, especially in space, and hardcore pirates might not get all they need from the systems in place here, but other than that, this is an almost perfect port of an almighty behemoth of a game. The sky, it seems, really has no limits." - PJ O'Reilly | NintendoLife

I am tempted to get the switch 1 version.

OtterX7d ago

Do it! It's still on sale until next week, then score your free upgrade.

It's so nice being able to continue our save from other platforms while on the go. (For me, PS5, PC & VR) I'm headed out of town this weekend and I plan on taking it with me. :)

That's a nice little surprise.

Honestly I gotta hand it to Hello Games. They really turned this game into something else with their dedication to it. A rocky start, but the game is unrecognizable to what we had at launch.

Stoked for Light No Fire.
