Why Titanfall 2 is coming to the PS4

PSU writes:

Respawn Entertainment's Vince Zampella explains the decision to bring Titanfall 2 to the PS4 following its exclusivity with Microsoft for the original game.

Hoffmann2916d ago (Edited 2916d ago )

Nailed it.

Basically the whole article..and more or less all other comments, this one included are redundant thanks to your simple but spot on answer.

XisThatKid2915d ago

Shot in the dark but here it goes.
They very on the wrong horse when they thought the success of 360 world transition over with the Xbox brand to the X1. No one truly KNEW the success PS4 was going to see .if they did I doubt they would have went exclusive with it. That's what I think.

lelo2play2916d ago

Yep... Basicly every 3rd party developer that make exclusive deals with Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo loose a crap load o money/sales. It's simply bad business.

BiggerBoss2916d ago

If every single one lost money, they wouldn't do it anymore. Obviously there is money to be made somewhere

thekhurg2916d ago

Incorrect. When there is an exclusivity deal the party getting the exclusive will typically fund game development or "buy" the exclusive deal by paying the developer (or publisher) for the projected lost sales.

That's why it's easier to land new IP exclusives then games with an established fanbase.

DragonDDark2916d ago

You think they are doing exclusives for free? They get money dude lol

IamTylerDurden12916d ago

The issue is that TF just didn't sell the astronomically high numbers they anticipated bc there were only so many xb1's in the wild at the time. Seeing as PS4 has twice the install base it'd be foolish for any major 3rd party dev to do an exclusive deal with ms. Tomb Raider...

Germany72916d ago

This guy knows about business. /s

morganfell2915d ago

@thekhurg,

Except when the Titanfall 1 deal was made, prior to the consoles launching, the belief was the X1 would steamroll the PS4 in sales. That turned out not to be true and EA/Respawn lost a great sum of money that the exclusivity deal did not cover.

AngelicIceDiamond2915d ago (Edited 2915d ago )

@Morgan Absolutely false. That's not how that works and unlike you I have actual facts https://www.google.com/url?... 10m sales overall. Imma throw this in there as well. https://www.google.com/url?... Deadrising 3 mill milestone. Suggestion, don't be a fanboy an don't speak on things you know nothing about it makes you look hella dumb.

morganfell2915d ago (Edited 2915d ago )

Thanks for the insult and the PC numbers. And as someone that has demonstrated on this site time and again you are a fanboy you have no room to talk. The difference between you and I is that I am honest and openly admit my motivations while you believe (wrongly, quite wrongly) that yours are cloaked. You fool no one.

Yes they do...another 40mil+ gamers should help.

tgunzz2916d ago (Edited 2916d ago )

Titanfall was never mean't to be exclusive. Respawn wants to dethrone COD, and the only chance is through multiplat...

XanderZane2916d ago

Tell that to Capcom, Namco, Konami, Sega, SquareEnix and Atlus who continually skip PC, Wii U & XB1 platforms with many of their games. Sales don't seem to matter all the time for these companies, even though it should.

Chevalier2916d ago

Because sales are negligble. It's cost versus benefit. If you're not going to even make enough money to cover the cost of translating, publishing and your projected sales can't cover the minimum why even bother even releasing it?

Just look at why a giant company like Warner Bros. decided to cancel Xbox release of Batman in Japan or why Mages which exclusively only Xbox release last gen canceled exclusivity and announced PS4 ports going forward. Psycho Pass couldn't even make it in Japan and they actually lost money. Now it's coming to North America and its not even getting a release on Xbox One even though it was XB1 exclusive in Japan.

Overload2915d ago (Edited 2915d ago )

Have you seen the sales numbers for a game like Final Fantasy on Xbox? It might as well be a PlayStation exclusive. Some reach as high as 90% sold on PlayStation.

TwoForce2915d ago

You don't know what you are talking about.

XanderZane2914d ago

@Chevalier
We're not talking about just Japan. The games these companies are releasing for PS4 only are selling more copies in Europe & US, then they are in Japan. lol!! There are more PC gamers in Japan, then there are PS4 gamers, yet they don't even release many of these games on PC in Japan, let along Europe & U.S. Millions in sales lossed. A lot of these games don't need much translation. PC/XB1 is so similar to PS4 now that putting games like Ace Combat 7, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, World of Final Fantasy, NiOh, Ni No Kuni 2, etc.. on other platforms shouldn't be a problem.

@TwoForce
Hhmm.. yes I do. I used to work in the gaming business.

I will be buying it used IF I buy it, they don't deserve my money. They want to lie about why they went exclusive and all that pile of bullcrap so they don't deserve my money same with Square Enix and Tomb Raider nope.... it's about the money. Insomniac was basically fired so they get a pass on Spider Man, but I don't support these wishy washy devs/pubs that believe they can just lie to us to fatten their pockets NOPE..... USED GAME SALES MATTER.

Xbox players would destroy ps owners

@Film

How old are you? I am guessing from that comment around 13.

TwoForce2915d ago

@Filmicfps Don't get too cocky.

freshslicepizza2916d ago

they should but sony has of yet given the green light for another game, rocket league. not sure what the hold up is but hopefully by the time this game comes out it will all be sorted out.

rdgneoz32916d ago

It's a two way street. FF XIV reborn / heavensward have been out for a while, and it's yet to come to xbox because MS won't let it's users play with PC, PS3, and PS4 users. MS wanted their own servers (like ESO) originally, As for the green light for Rocket League, PS4 and PC players are already playing together, so the hold up is probably not on Sony (seeing as FF XIV info above)..

MS might have said it'd let other systems use their servers, but nothing about it being free or letting "it's" gamers use other systems servers (would any game / round of rocket league or TF2 that includes an xbox user have to use the xbox servers, and would MS want compensation for PS4 players using their servers from Sony?).

DaDrunkenJester2916d ago

@rdgneoz3 - The developer said they are waiting on Sony to approve it. they said that the X1 and PC are ready to go as soon as Sony greenlights it.

freshslicepizza2916d ago

@rdgneoz
"It's a two way street."

yes it is and now that microsoft avenue is open with two lanes it appears sony street is now roadblocked with a construction sign ahead.

"FF XIV reborn / heavensward have been out for a while, and it's yet to come to xbox because MS won't let it's users play with PC, PS3, and PS4 users."

that was so yesterday, where have you been?

"MS wanted their own servers (like ESO) originally,"

originally does not mean today.

"As for the green light for Rocket League, PS4 and PC players are already playing together, so the hold up is probably not on Sony (seeing as FF XIV info above).."

you can play on xbox one and pc as well for rocket league. the developers mentioned the hold up is sony, not microsoft so check your facts please,

http://www.gamespot.com/art...

http://www.ecumenicalnews.c...

"MS might have said it'd let other systems use their servers, but nothing about it being free or letting "it's" gamers use other systems servers (would any game / round of rocket league or TF2 that includes an xbox user have to use the xbox servers, and would MS want compensation for PS4 players using their servers from Sony?)."

do everyone a service and provide proof before you just randomly say stuff, thanks. oh and by the way all those who keep disagreeing with no real reason it just goes to show how so few like to hear the actual truth when others point things out just because it can be viewed as negative but still factual.

IamTylerDurden12916d ago

I could care less if i ever get cross play w/xb1. Not like i even notice when we get pc cross play. It simply means very little.

Chocoburger1d 5h ago

Nice thing they did, but not actually gaming related, not sure why this article was approved. Also strange informing us what game Rare worked on, as if we don't know their legacy.

Tacoboto1d 4h ago

Sorry you hate dog news - here's a game-related headline for you, the latest: "Deathsprint 66 is a hyperviolent freerunner that proves game journos suck at games | Video Gamer"

Yeah we need more headlines like *that* on this site, instead of news about a studio's employee perks.

GaboonViper1d 4h ago

Its actually nice to see a story like this instead of the usual doom and gloom but people still moan, anyhow hope these beautiful doggos have a great life.

Damn was hoping for a fantasy setting. Looks futuristic

jznrpg1d 6h ago (Edited 1d 6h ago )

I think that’s a screensaver if you look to the right it looks more like a fantasy game and so does the concept art leaked earlier. Who knows though

phoenixwing8h ago

Unless that structure/pillar thingy in the right picture is long forgotten technology it's futuristic.

Name Last Name1d 8h ago (Edited 1d 8h ago )

Another shooter? Yawn. Thought the prevous concept looked more fantasy.

just_looken17h ago

With there same look on the right a arena setting this might be live service game #5 from sony

So a live service shooter like concord.....

StormSnooper17h ago

It looks like a fantasy game on the right screen. You are looking at a screensaver.

Unions in gaming are necessary fr fr

montebristo1d 6h ago

I used to be anti-union, it kills productivity, investment and turns product mediocre. Their games suck anyways though so what was lost? Might as well get their people paid until they are dissolved.

shinoff21831d 6h ago

Unions are necessary regardless of how you feel. You know how fked the working class would be without them. As if we're not already.

montebristo1d 5h ago

No they aren’t, regardless of how you feel. Unions make zero sense for skill based labor. They are for people who press a button every 10 seconds on an assembly line. “working class” is a made up term. I don’t care about corporations or developers, I just want good games lol. Killing your incentives to appease the lowest common denominator doesn’t lead to great games imo

montebristo23h ago(Edited 23h ago)

I wasn’t trying to be offensive if I came off that way. The Union is an old mentality and I can see their usefulness but also the danger. We’re in the age of AI and robots and skill based labor. Unions can be dangerous these days. You could replace your entire workforce in one move. Checkmate. Look to the kiosk replacing workers in the 20 dollar minimum wage era.

Well run businesses don’t need unions. If you need a Union that business won’t survive anyway. Unless it’s propped up by the government with corporate welfare (which is the real issue). If you’re not going to spend some on your workers (Amazon, Google) then your welfare is cut off. No tax breaks. All you put together don’t match their wealth and resources, the union is a traditional memory at this point and counterproductive with this new enemy we face. They need a flying elbow from the top ropes. And by “working class is a made up term” I just mean we’re not a class system and even CEO Bobby Kotick puts in a days work lol. Or did.. It’s just a vague term that doesn’t mean anything no offense lol. People say “middle class” but that can change quick right? Up or down. That’s not a “class system”.
