Should Sony Ditch PS3, Vita Support for PlayStation Plus?

Push Square: "Like it or not, the PlayStation 3 and Vita are nearing the end of their lives. That's not to say that either system is irrelevant – this author's been playing the addictive Steamworld Heist on the latter lately – but they're not in their heyday anymore. Sony knows this: it's ceased talking about the PS3 almost entirely, and while it continues to cultivate a small but enthusiastic niche on the Vita, it recognises that the PlayStation 4 is the way forward for its business."

I think they should up the PS4 count and reduce the PS3 and Vita to 1 each.

SSjDomon1442d ago (Edited 1440d ago )

Absolutely not. Vita and PS3 should not be minimized until after their official discontinuation. To prematurely cut support for these systems in any way, shape, or form would be absurdly anti-consumer. I have PS+ for Vita exclusively, and only getting one shitty game instead of two would...wait. Well maybe they should cut support completely if they won't have anything good to offer so I can cancel my subscription.

@KwietStorm: "There's nothin absurd about it. Things work this way all the time."

Lol, even if that's true, as if I care how things "work all the time." Just because bullshit happens all the time doesn't mean we need to embrace it, that's fucking moronic, bud.

@moldybread: "the ps3 and vita are getting less and less support so it only makes sense to eventually drop plus for them too. but that would be up to sony who knows the plus memberships for those systems, which by the way sony never announced figures for and it wasn't until the ps4 came out that they started hyping up how well it was doing. which coincidentally was when plus was required to play online on the ps4."

No, what makes sense is to support them until discontinuation, and support them well.

There's nothin absurd about it. Things work this way all the time. As already said, those platforms are pretty much done. PS+ is a luxury anyway. It's not like they're cutting support for the systems completely.

I agree. I still have my PS3.

I don't think they will. There's no incentive for people to pay for PS+ on the PS3 or Vita without the free games since online is free on both consoles. There are still plenty of people who play on the PS3, and enough on the Vita, to make it worth keeping their sub rate up.

I don't think it's worth disregarding a fan base, just so the PS4 can get more games. I'd rather just see them offer some more high profile games on PS4 is all.

This is one of those instances where people think only of what is relevant to them, without realizing there are still a great number of people who don't have a PS4 compared to the PS3.

@moldy

Actually, PS3 and Vita PS+ offerings are the only reason I still find PS+ worth getting. But, I still play on both systems regularly. I understand why it may not be noticeable for those who don't own either of those systems though. I'd like to see some better selections on the PS4 side however. We get some good games on it overall, but I'd like to see some more higher profile games come out to mirror like what it used to be back in the PS3 days where I can try out some of the bigger IP's that I may have overlooked for whatever reason. I don't mind indies, but I don't see much worth in paying a sub for them.

WiiU-Dude1443d ago

I think this guys a moron. There is no guarantee in Sony's fiscal position overall that dropping the likely small amount needed for such old games would suddenly be reallocated to beef up PS4 or upcoming VR releases. I love getting my free games over 3 systems thank you. Some good, some not so good...at least I got to try something I never would have before.

Sammy is a moron and a clickbait master of shaming the PS Vita. Such a sad dickface. Isn't that right, shitme bonerhead?

InahimeHondaSengoku1443d ago

Screw you Sammy! Get off n4g with that clickbait nonsense. :)

ziggurcat1443d ago

no. people still only have those devices.

SSjDomon1440d ago

Yeah but these selfish, "me me" entitled children ca only think of themselves. "I only have/care about PS4 so nobody else matters."

MasterCornholio1443d ago (Edited 1442d ago )

Someday they should but not now. Then again even if the PS3 isnt manufactured anymore it should not* cost them a lot to continue supporting it with PS+. Same goes for the Vita.

I do agree that it would be nice to see some high quality AAA games with plus. They could offer games like Infamous Second Son, Until Dawn, Killzone Shadowfall (shh don't care what you think about the game) and many others. Imagine if they release SFV on plus to inject new life into the fighter.

Now I understand that Sony has every right to choose what plus gives and we as consumers can choose to subscribe to plus (Im not subscribed at the moment) but they can always give people a better incentive to get plus.

ninjazfistz1442d ago (Edited 1442d ago )

I agree. Ps plus for ps3 was completely different than ps4. The incentive to buying ps plus on ps3 was for amazing games and the background download/automaticupdate feature :( :(

The incentive on ps4 is you get to play the multiplayer portion of the game you paid for and a few mediocre games :/

I hope one day they decide that ps3 would benefit from better firmware upgrades and making premium features the standard at this point. Sony is regretful they promised free online on ps3 and is trying to kill off the old system due to this.
