Famitsu: White Knight Chronicles Hitting Japan December 11th

The latest issue of Famitsu magazine contains a release date for Level 5's Sony Computer Entertainment-published White Knight Chronicles for the PLAYSTATION 3. The release date for White Knight Chronicles in Japan is December 11th, 2008 for the price of ¥6980.

You mean the first real "next gen" RPG for Japan period. Sure lost odyssey was a great effort and i guess tales of vesperia may have been cool...didn't play it. All these games will however fall short of the glory of WKC

If you look at Level 5's history (Dragon Quest 8, Dark Cloud I&II, Rogue Galaxy) its hard to imagine that WKC will be anything but great.

Don't judge it until you play it. Free Radical has a good track record, look what came out. Silicon Knights was pretty good too. And something was too wrong with their latest game.

Not to say that WKC is going to suck (infact it's one of my most anticipated PS3 games) but it's ok to be cautious and not jump to any conclusions until the actual game is out.

While I agree that you shouldn't assume a game will be good based ENTIRELY on the developers past accomplishments. I do feel this is slightly different than what went on with Factor 5 and Silicon Knights. Both of those devs were doing games almost completely different from their past work (well Lair wasn't as different, but I think most of what killed it was the motion control). We're talking here about Level 5... a company that is renowned for making quality RPG's. They're definitely within their element! I think that's reason enough to be excited.

That said, I don't believe in counting chickens before they hatch. There's no guarantees... but I think this title has a whole lot going for it and I can't wait!

Unless you're fluent in Japanese it's not time to get excited yet, hopefully a release for USA won't take too long though, Dark Cloud was approximately a 6 month wait but Rogue Galaxy only took an extra month, let's hope this is about a month.

As for us Europeans though ?, Rogue Galaxy took almost 2 years longer for a Euro release, better get a USA import then.

Exciting stuff, if the US date is too far off this one, it's a import for me.

You can't hate on Disgaea 3 because it has only been out a week, and being a hardcore strategy title, it isn't expected to move a lot. ToV will do well, but Eternal Sonata only moved about 250k global on the 360. Tales should be the first 360 RPG to move a million but I doubt it will.

Not the biggest fan of JRPG..I have played and like a special selected few.. but WKC will be a must buy for me..I have never regretted any day one purchases..

I remember when I had a modded Sega Dreamcast I purchase a Japanese version of Shenmue....before it came out in the states...did not understand a damn thing but eventually beat the game with the help of the internet..Its going to be hard to wait for WKC

I know that Level 5 has a good track record and all, but it worries me somewhat that this game is supposed to be coming out in Japan this December whenever hardly any previous info has been released about the game until now and it's making me question how good or how not so good the game will be. Obviously Level 5 will reveal all at TGS this year, I just think that more info like screenshots, developer interviews, teaser trailers and such should have been released about the game before TGS of this year because then I would have more confidence in the game.

Anyways, I do hope that White Knight turns out to be a good JRPG, and it will sell in Japan regardless. PS3 sales should spike for a couple of weeks in December in Japan with this JRPG hitting the system.

Tales of Vesperia was the first great HD JRPG IMO, but WKC will probably (hopefully) be better or as good. ToV was awesome, but nothing all that new in it, Tales of Symphonia is still my favorite.

i don't think i've been disappointed in a single game i've played from them. even the original Dark Cloud (which was the weakest of all the titles i've played so far).

Dark Cloud 2, DQVIII, Rogue Galaxy, Professor Layton, Jeanne D' Arc, i've been calling these guys the new Squaresoft for the past two, three years already. for me, they've captured what i love about RPGs in a way that Square-Enix haven't since the SNES and PS1 days (although i love FFXII, but that's to be expected; the FF series is their crown jewel, but their other series just haven't had that same level of polish; ALL of Level 5's titles seem like the same level of attention and dedication have been put into them).
