GTX 1060 “SLI” Benchmark – Outperforms GTX 1080 with Explicit Multi-GPU

GamersNexus: "All that stated, this test pairs an MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X with the GTX 1060 Founders Edition card, then pits them vs. a single GTX 1060, 1080, 1070, and RX 480s (+ CF)."

SLI and crossfire are a lot more inconsistent in their performance from game to game than a single card is. That's why I generally go with a fairly high end single card setup. If you got the money though for that second card and are aware of the limitations then knock yourself out.

Would a 650 watt power supply be enough to even sli these two cards?

But even then, it's only 1-2 fps higher it seems in most cases and only one game was really shown I think in the video. Not good enough gains to convince me to do sli of 1060 over a 1080 in exchange for more glitches and compatibility issues and only getting a unoticable frame or two higher!

Exactly, i wouldn't touch this over a single high end card. Too unreliable, it would be better to upgrade your single card every 1-2 years rather than do this.

I thought SLI wasn't enabled on these.

It's the new Multi GPU through the PC-e bus/slots:

The GTX 1060s do not have SLI fingers and can only communicate via the PCIe bus, without a bridge, thereby demanding that applications support MDA (Multi-Display Adapter) or LDA Explicit (Linked Display Adapter)
