No Man’s Sky will be released on PS4 and PC on August 9th, but today marks another milestone. As shared on Twitter by Creative Director Sean Murray, the game has finally gone gold.

Overwatch, lacked content when it launched. ..and lacks it now for a mp only game. They (like star wars bf) could have had at least a great sp mode with the characters they have, but didnt. So if you are only gunna have a mp game and charge 60 bucks you at least need to have the content to make it worth 60. It's a great game and as you said very creative. ..but for 60, no matter how good you made it, it needs more content. That's why it's on the list. Same with the order, ryse, starwars, evolve, titan fall and quantum break...they all lacked content needed for a 60$ price tag at launch. Many games have added free content later but 60 bucks admission day one needs more content. Not to mention that most these games were made by large teams of people where nms wasnt, and it has an infinite amount of content to it...

Yeah, I feel the same way. I played Quantum Break on PC and it was one of the best gaming experiences I've had this gen. The storytelling is amazing and right up my alley (just like Remedy's other games). I also thought the gunplay and time powers were a lot of fun. The atmosphere and graphics were incredible too.

Currently, I didn't see much that I would actually buy it. There just wasn't enough gameplay. Yes it seems as it has a big world, but that can get boring after a few hours. And it doesn't help that there is only a small chance you can see other players.

I did that and ended up buying both Destiny and The Division...

Funny thing is, that No Mans Sky hasnt had anything changed or taken out since its reveal.

People went into Destiny thinking there were going to be space battles, some sort of planetary exploration, and a solid story, nope if you wamt any of that you better collect those grimiore cards and read about them. And people having to drop money on slightly more decent content that came with a reskinned raid(s), and enemies.

The Division, ended being half of what it was revealed to be. The location was changed to a different area in manhattan, the reveal made it seem that the story area and the dark zone would featur a seamleas transition between these two types of areas, tablet controlled aerial devices were taken out and were used for the uncooperative incursion mode with severely over powered enemies. The DarkZone went below sea level, due to countless exploits and cheaters.

So far, the only bad news I heard about NMS developement is that Hello Games studio was flooded, which increased its developement time, and some lawsuit that Hello Games settle with a company that copy writted the word "Sky"....

And on top of that Sean Murray kept his team small which helped prevent leaked information, therefore making nearly everything about this game both a complete secret and suprise upon its release date, as Sean Murray and the rest of Hell Games intended on.

So I bought two games after hearing negative details about the two of them, and will be buying one because I only witnessed good things about it.
Only bad things I can think of about NMS are:

1)We the few that venture through NMS may never come across each other due to the vast amount of space.

2)We probably wont even land on or even explore more than 1%, of all the planets within NMS, on both platforms combined. (There are 18,446,744,073,709,551,616, planets withhin this game)

@CHEF - the review isn't so much to decide whether I like the game. With NMS I like what I see.

The review is more for finding out if they failed to deliver, or if there's nasty surprises so I don't waste money and find out the hard way.

Sometimes reviews will point out problems that I don't think are a big deal, and I'll buy the game anyway.

To use the shoe analogy- you think the shoes are cool, but if you find out online there are a ton of people complaining those shoes fall apart after a week, should you still buy them?

I won't be judging it just on reviews along, but on what my friends say about it as well. I trust their judgement. I'll probably get to try it before I buy as well. I'm up in the air right now on whether it will be worth $60. I'm leaning toward, "No, it won't be worth the $60" from what I've read and seen of the gameplay. It's not the first game which had never ending game play. I'm sure one could spend a decent amount of time on it, see what features it has to offer...hopefully at least experiences the base of those features and times when they can be good or bad....and make an informed review on the subject without ever reaching the "end" of the game.

Granted, they won't do this, but they could if they choose to.

Many will probably hold it to some ridiculous standard that the FPS shooting isn't COD, and that they don't run into people for a few hours so they have no one to shoot, and that in the early stages they can't start trading whatever resources they gain, because no one has their own resources to trade yet, or they don't like the flag they use to claim planets with, or that they don't like the the color blue, and the mauve polka-dotted two headed dinosaurs on that one planet weren't bisexual trans-gendered Swedish chefs so the game lacks inclusiveness.

Thinking on it, I'd like to say it'd be interesting to see how it's reviewed....but ultimately, I know it's not really going to be that interesting. The reviewers that hold themselves to higher standards....what few there are left...will probably manage it alright though.

Damn, I hadn't heard about that. I had to go look up what you were talking about. Consider this as bad as Apple "owning" certain words, despite common words not being allowed to be trademarked....even though they can be in reference to specific products or brands.

They hit MS too with SkyDrive, and now MS calls it OneDrive for that reason.

One of those times when the trademark regulations really need some work to prevent this kind of abuse. A title of anything shouldn't be restricted from using common words so long as those words...even if those words hold the connotation that is directly related to the trademark holder. It's like titling a book "the big blue sky" and Sky network thinks one can't do that because they "own" the word. The phrase "no man's sky" is actually a play on words for "no man's land" which has been around long before Sky network even existed, starting sometime in the 1000's.

I wouldn't say that. I think one should get it if they aren't interested. They could become very interested in it. I wasn't into SimCity until I played it, now it's one of my favorite go to games. I wasn't into MMO's but when I played WOW I got really into it for a long time before I lost interest. I'm not that into Dreams right now, but I will give it a go, and see if it's something I like.

Now, if one sees the footage and thinks it sucks, and they can't see a single thing that looks good to them because their standards are different than others...well, I'd say try it anyways. How many people weren't turned onto Minecraft and how simple it was back in the day before it became big?

I'm sure one can rent it for a couple bucks, or borrow it from a friend without much issue. Demo would be worthwhile for a game like this because I can see how it may not appeal to everyone based on just the trailers alone.

It panders to one's curiosity and desire for exploring and gives you multiple things to do while doing so. It's the sense of the unknown which drives the hype.

Kind of like how Minecraft satiates those who like to create, and experience new worlds(through user content), this game gives the opportunity to experience new worlds and find new things. There's more to do than just explore, but those things are just supplemental to round out the purpose of exploring.

I'll be honest, I've played Mincraft in its early days, I couldn't believe how fast I dropped that game.

I guess I am jaded, hype is like a stain glass window for me, it just doesn't happen within me anymore for anything really, and I looks at everything with a surgical blade at hand if it looks remotely interesting. If not, simple pass. Safe to say games in the present day are not as good universally as they once were. Microtransactions and anti-consumer practices have made sure of that overall.

I get it and that speaks to what I was saying...you have no interest (or very little) in the game as it has been presented. That's cool. I also understand the fatigue that has set in with gaming and some of the newer constructs to get at our cash. But, imo, that should be yet another compelling reason to give this game a nod. It's virtually limitless and there aren't microtransactions, dlc, and season passes that we see before the game even drops.
As for the number of planets, it was basically the result of their algorithms. So, they've constructed the gameplay and goals around that number. They wanted the game to reflect the vastness of our actual universe and the feeling of being in it. The goals, gameplay, and lore wouldn't change from 10-1,000,000,000 planets because it's basically a survival game in essence. This is not some AAA budget fame made by hundreds of devs. It's like 10 dudes from an indie studio with a really grand vision and somehow trying to make it happen. It's less Mass Effect and more Don't Starve.

This happens to many games. That's why I just don't put much stock in game review scores. I mainly read them for the content in order that I can read between the lines and get a clearer picture of a game, not because I care about the overall subjective value judgment.

Some of my favorite games have been games that received mixed reviews.

True, it's not something that will only exist with this game. Even the highest rated games get fan boys latching onto the low review scores as if they are somehow more accurate.

For scores themselves, at best, I can wait for Metacritic to even out with enough reviews, because more often than not, the final aggregated score comes pretty close to where I would rate a game.

For the content of reviews, I ignore most of them unless they're from a reviewer who has a track record for quality, mostly unbiased, reviews. There are actually quite a few of them out there, but most of them get buried by the overly generous or troll reviews that exist, as their more moderate review scores don't really stand out.

However, for the most part, since I buy so many games, reviews hardly matter to me. I'll play it and determine for myself if it's worthwhile. At best, a review can push me to start a game sooner instead of it being buried in my backlog as is more common.

You'd think if there were a universal rubric that all reviewers were to follow then great games would get great reviews. However, there is not. Therefore, great games get lambasted in order to garner clicks. That is how internet revenue works. They higher your ratings (clicks) the more you can earn through advertising.

I don't want to name any games because then the discussion becomes about those individual games rather than the lack of integrity for journalists, especially those that publish clickbait.

Where are the reviews? A game coming in 30 days that doesn't focus on story driven elements should have been reviewed already! I think that's probably what's going to hurt this game, it doesn't seem like people in the press are that excited about this game coming out next month

It just got final code (went gold), so it is impossible to have reviews of the retail version at this point. We will see reviews, as usual, around the date of release. I've not seen review embargoes being lifted 30 days out from release. Even games of this magnitude (which we KNOW no reviewer will be able to see ALL of the content) don't get that kind of treatment. That's why we often see "partial" or "core gameplay" reviews of larger titles that could take 100's of hours.

I respect people's opinions to the contrary on NMS, but to say that all you do is walk around and look at stuff is just being misinformed or antagonistic. The theme/genre is just as much about survival as it is exploration. Virtually everyone who has reported on it has said as much. It's also an RPG with a leveling system.

This game is going to both disappoint and surprise people. There is a lot of information about it, but it seems like two-thirds of the people that take the time to comment about it, haven't taken the time to even see what the game actually is, it's like they just repeat what they heard from someone else who didn't know what they were talking about.

I hope that Hello Games is already sending out review copies to media outlets so reviewers will have plenty of time to "digest" what this game is and what you can do in it. I can just see IGN's "review in progress" lasting for like 2 weeks post-launch otherwise.

But in a nut shell, its an survival/exploration game that takes place in a huge universe where everyone starts in the same galaxy and tries to get to the center of the tootsie pop... i mean center of the galaxy.

During your ventures, you have many options on how you wish to play,. because it doesnt have a traditional campaign with markers, objectives and goals, you can do quite alot of things,

You can choose to stay opn your first planet, choose to take to the cosmos and never land on a planet again. you can become a trader to make the money drop for dem space beaches, or be a pirate and steal from traders.

Theres NPC's who speak languages you have to learn in order to communicate and work with them.

Every planet is going to be different in one way or many ways. all based on where the planets are based on their sun, how big they are, whats the chemical make up of their atmosphere. so many things.

Oh and you can go from planet to space to space station to hyper drive to other solar system to planet without a load screen

Will rent it to check it out first as I do with all games. It's good? I'll pay the full 60. Reviews? I don't use reviews to warrant or judge my purchase. I take matters into my own hands. If something isn't good/defective, I'll just simply return, refund, or replace my item at the end with no cost. My system wins every time. Yours can too! I anticipate NMS.

this is also a very difficult game to review, as someone who cant play games like say.. doom.. may hate the game if thbey start in a -200F planet and constantly die. everyones adventures are going to be different. maybe have a look at Kinda Funny when they release their reviews for it, Colin is a great reviewer, doesn't believe in the number scale and tells you like it is

Theres also planetary exploration, some of ehich will never be seen by another player. There will be space battles you can participate in. Its more than a flying simulator.
