Just looking at the protagonist's design and the dubstep...I can tell this man means what he says

Concertoine3290d ago

Is this supposed to be his stab at new dante? The dubstep and character design and the choice of white hair over brown seems so directed at new dante.

Eldyraen3290d ago

I thought everyone loved hipster anime characters? It's clearly what he is based on.

Ristul3290d ago (Edited 3290d ago )

That looks anime to you? More like a cringy, dude bro out of place character...

Eldyraen3290d ago

@Ristul: if you made Scalebound into an anime, no one would shake their head at how crazy anything is. Most contemporary amines have a character like this dude as well. The token hipster that says one liners before and during combat.

I don't mind but if any medium had a character like this, it would be an anime or manga.

Ristul3290d ago (Edited 3290d ago )

Eldyraen: Oh, you mean the personality of the character and not the actual look? I mean, Anime is a pretty broad genre if you think about it, there is very realistic and toned down anime (Grave of the fireflies) and then there is also a lot of different artstyles within the genre. Within the genre I'm sure you can find the silly, pop-star anti-hero a la Scalebound character, but I wouldn't call it the norm in most anime, and I'm not sure I would even call that style bad. The only reason I would call the style bad in this case is b/c it doesn't fit, he looks silly and out of place in that fantasy world. A silly character can be fun if his surrounding world reflects that in tone, Scalebound just looks conflicting to me. I could be wrong though, the game isn't out jet.

hirobrotagonist3290d ago

I don't think "hipster" really fits the character's description. The hair, lack of beard, clothing and the dubstep are all wrong.

I think its clear the dragon is the real star of the game. The protagonist I feel like is the voice of the game to move things along dialogue wise and to get you pumped for big boss battles. You can customize the protagonist also but its still the same guy Vs the dragon that can be vastly different then say your friends dragon. How the dragon plays, moves, skillsets, and probably how he response to your protagonist.

...

Not everyone's a fan of dubstep? :P

rainslacker3289d ago (Edited 3289d ago )

I prefer hearing the steps in their native language. It's more authentic.

nitus103289d ago

I will agree that some dubbing can be done really well while other dubbing can be outright cringe-worthy. Many anime I have looked at are much better if you listen to it in the original Japanese providing it has good subbing and that includes having subbing of some Japanese written words.

It also helps if you can understand some Japanese spoken words especially how the Japanese use honorifics (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wi... It's actually not that hard and it makes for a better understanding of how and why each character in the anime reacts to the other characters.

As for liking Anine and/or Manga (some may like one and hate the other) that depends on the reader or viewer since there are some many different genres and all appeal to different tastes. The problem appears when the country that is doing the dubbing adopts the attitude that all Anime falls into the cartoon category and treats it the same way they would treat a cartoon (ie: aimed at kids) in their country.

I agree with him don't let people on the Internet mess up your vision for your game. It was really cool for developers to start listening at first but it was short lived. Most people on the net don't really know what they want and the other half will just complain regardless of change or no change.

Scale bound looks good to me and we really haven't been shown anything in detail.

Jaw1love3290d ago

agreed. Far, far too much fan service going around the entertainment industry now days. Games, Movies, TV everyone just trying to throw in whatever crap will make "fans" jump on twitter and say "ohh wow, amazeballs" or whatever. If you are the content creator just stick to your vision and screw the haters.

Chaos_Order3290d ago

"Don't give people what they want, give them what they never knew they needed."

I feel this philosophy is what drives creativity and gives rise to some of the greatest masterpieces in all forms of entertainment. Trying to please everyone is a fool's errand.

ninsigma3290d ago

And that is how you are supposed to make anything in this world. You make it to your vision and those that are in line with your thinking will pick it up. Unfortunately, from the last trailer, it doesn't look like something I'll be playing but that's because my taste doesn't fit his vision or vice versa. I applaud him for making a new IP the way he wants, even if I don't necessarily like it.

Spurg3290d ago

Every single main character in platinum games have been terrible. If this is why you buy platinum games then you haven't been paying attention.

Concertoine3290d ago

I like Bayonetta and Jack from MadWorld. Also Wonder red was hilarious.

Yui_Suzumiya3290d ago

I like all the diverse characters from Platinum Games. It's one of the main appeals.

I might get one in a couple years but I’m in no hurry. Nothing at launch I want to play.

GotGame8189h ago

60 fps Switch games with higher resolution makes it worth it to me.

badz1498h ago

you basically has no choice because it only has old games with ONE new exclusive and a scummy paid demo. old games are all you have and you fanboys are eating it up and let Nintendo get away with this.

PRIMORDUS1d ago

If there are no shortages then why can't we just easily order a Switch 2 online, from Best Buy, Target, Newegg, Amazon etc. No shortages means we can get it by any means, online or in store.

kindi_boy2h ago

move your ass to the nearest Target or Best Buy and you'll find a lot of them.

shinXseijuro1d 2h ago

Maybe there’s shortages in Japan ? But they’re pretty much available lol

shinXseijuro1d 2h ago

But hey saying that creates more hype right !

Good-Smurf12h ago(Edited 12h ago)

There isn't one in US, I saw plenty posting pictures of it many stores in still have plenty in stock.
This is just them referring to stock situation mostly in Japan.
Sounds like he low key also spreading FOMO pressuring people to go out and buy one for no good reason?
It's not exactly flying off the shelves here in Thailand though, there's basically no real hype here at all other than the fanboys lining up for it the first few days.
You can easily order one right now in Thailand from all the official authorized stores, not out of stock at all.
The price of 17800 THB or around 550 USD here for a standard SKU and high game prices probably has a lot to do with it.

badz1498h ago

the standalone Switch 2 is more expensive than the PS5 slim in Malaysia and just $2 cheaper than the Disc PS5 Slim. what a rip-off

Ten Years Later - Still Going Strong: Dying Light: Retouched Update Releasing June 26

Hey Survivors! Tymon here, your favorite Dying Light Franchise Director.

It's been an absolutely wild month here at Techland! We're in the thick of what I'm calling the "Summer of Dying Light," delivering updates and big news across all three Dying Light games. Just a few weeks ago, we dropped the first gameplay for Dying Light: The Beast, revealed its release date, and kicked off pre-orders (if you haven't seen it, check out my last dev blog). I'm incredibly proud of what we're building with The Beast - it’s the culmination of more than 10 years of experience in open-world survival horror!

But here's the thing: we never forget where we came from. That's why, this week, we're not just looking forward - we're rolling out significant updates for both the original Dying Light and Dying Light 2: Stay Human. We promised to support our games for a long time, and we're committed to continuing that support, right through and beyond the launch of Dying Light: The Beast.
