Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft are all making new video game consoles, and they're all arriving soon.
Wii U if only because there's been no price drop on the cusp of an NX announcement.
Already have a wiiu but I won't be buying an xb1 or ps4. I'll be buying an xb1 slim and ps neo instead.
so you don't have an xbox 1 or a ps4? Yea at this point people that buy the consoles are pretty much the casuals that don't keep up with game related news. I'm surprise Sony didn't follow MS with a price cut seeing how the new consoles are around the corner.
No reason to until something new hits the market. Edit: From their perspective, I mean. They're still selling double at a higher price. Until the S comes out with some additional features, they can hold on until they start seeing sales slip.
@thatguy, I have shown great restraint in the 8th gen... but seriously I have been doing some major catching up on saturn, ps1 and various other games that i have wanted to play from years past. When i do get these new systems i will already have games ready to play on them. Gamestop did a sale not long ago. 4 for $20 so I picked up titanfall and sunset overdrive for xb1 and killzone shadowfall and knack for ps4.
Exactly what I'm going to do next gen. I'm not buying consoles near release anymore if they're to release better versions a few years after.
This is the slippery slope that some people feared with this mid-gen plan, and it makes sense. Why pay for something that will be bested by another iteration in a couple of years? My hope (against hope) is that this doesn't become a trend and is simply a response to the unique nature of last gen. (which dragged on for 2 years longer than normal) Either that, or provide the option day one for a high end option and a more consumer friendly option. Other than that, I can see some people making similar decisions.
Well I already have a two Ps4's an xbox 1 and a wii U, adding another Xbox and Playstation wont hurt
True that! You can also always trade a Xbox and Ps4 towards their respective upgraded consoles.
Why the actual fuck would you do that?
I can appreciate the idea of "wait and see". It's a shame many people (including myself) do not have the self-discipline to do it.
With many reports suggesting the Neo will launch this year the last thing someone should do is buy a PS4. For xbox idk, I guess you could wait for scorpio but the S model could tide you over for a couple years. Either way bad time to buy a console right now. Edit: lol why am I getting downvoted for posting common sense?
Neo won't release this year no reason to no games currently supports it's abilities except for probably VR and Sony don't want to create that problem, it was part of their plans but Microsoft through a monkey wrench and they whole strategy now it's back to the drawing boards I wouldn't be surprised if they don't just skip the Neo and go straight for the 5
if the skip to the 5 that instantly means they're killing the ps4 and going back own their own words it also scraping NEO after all this hype and press release would be suicide .......sony`s biggest advantage like nintendo is exclusive experiences..... PS2 had lower specs than the GC and Xbox yet still dominated the mark
Wasn't it confirmed that NEO is coming out this year though? I mean it could also come out early next year.
I disagree...if you don't have an xbox one, and you buy the one S, it will probably only "tide you over" until E3 2017, when Microsoft goes full boat on the Scorpio, then you'll probably be wondering why you couldn't have just waited and saved your dollars a little bit longer. Especially if you don't have a good 4k television to connect that Xbox One S to and take advantage of the HDR10 and 4k blu ray.
Unless you have a 4K TV, If you want an X1 the thing to do is get the original big one. They're selling them dirt cheap right now.
God forbid if I had to replace mine I would.
If my PS4 gets broken somehow, i buy another one right away (same for my PS3, too many games to finish). When the famous NEO is out, i'll see if i can trade my PS4 for that but until then... i want to play =P
Ya if I needed a replacement I sure as hell wouldn't wait. But other then that I wouldn't rush out and buy any console right now.
i'd wait for neo and S release, if they don't drop the prices further then get those versions, if they do drop the price and you have no plans on getting a 4k tv you could get the older machines.
Sony is not making a new one, and everyone without a 4K tv does not need to think about it.
My ps4 just died on me 😣. I knowwwww neo is coming out but I have nothing to play now. I have to buy a ps4 ....
How did it die? Was it heat sink related? Did you ever open it up to clean the fan and circuit boards from dust? Or was it something else? Just curious......
Heat sink related. It's really my fault for not having it in a well ventilated area.
So don't buy a ps4 or Xbox one because the newer version is out soon. Okay so what if they change the idea to every 2 years a refresh in the consle with slightly more power ( not saying that will happen but still could ) Do we buy one or wait as it will change in 2 years ? Apple bring out a phone every year so when do you update ? Buy one if you want to , all games going foward run on any version we have
You're telling me.. I sold my PS4 at the end of May because I was having power issues and these new consoles were announced. So, now I have almost $400 put away and I'm not sure on whether not I should just buy this new RX 480, get a PS4 again or wait for the new ones. I'm leaning more towards buying the $199 RX 480 and save the remaining $200 until a later date.. FFS, after E3 Xbox ones drop down to $189 in bundles everywhere, but the PS4 is still in the $300s.
Its simple supply&demand. The more something sells the higher the price stays. The less something sells the faster in price drop.
If you can hold off, I would shocked if there weren't a price drop announced along with the Neo. Plus, the holiday sales should get you a decent discount IF there's no official one.
I have a feeling a great ass bundle will drop soon which may be the best deal you can get.
I had to have that uncharted 4 limited edition console so I just upgraded. If neo ends up being legit and not just a gimmick I'll gladly sell my original ps4 and just get that one as well.
You certainly shouldnt but a wii u now that's for sure.
If I would buy one now, it's the Wii U. It's still a great secondary console, if you like the exclusives. Neo and Scorpio will be backwards compatible for sure, so no need to buy a PS4 or X1 now. One can play all the games on the upcoming systems as well. But NX will likely not be backwards compatible ...
I don't dispute it had good games. I bought a Wii U day 1. In Australia i can now buy a ps4 or xbox cheaper than the Wii U. Also why buy one now when the nx is due to be released soon and will as you say probably play Wii U games. Regardless of neo and scorpio both consoles still have a few years of exclusives and support ahead of them.
the biggest issue here is that there is an assumption that everyone( Globally ) owns a 4k TV or will have access to one in the next 4 years which is not true......if the NEO can produce the same quality of games as the Scorpio at 1080p ill take sony`s exclusives any day ......as for current consoles price cuts would be great
Not all scorpio games will be 4k though. They might be 1080p and use extra textures etc. Or msaa 8x etc could be used.
i know this sounds noob as hell, but for example, the TV on my room is a small (small) tv (not a squared one). Would i be able to play with a PS4 Neo with it or do i have to buy a 4k tv?
You can still play, but won't get to see the full benefits of the 4k, unless devs use the extra power not for 4k but for higher framerates and 1080p. (as long as your tv supports 1080p)
thank you very much man, i was afraid of buying a PS4 neo but then dont having a TV to play it (lol that would be hilarious from an outside point of view).
Releasing a significant update to the consoles was a really stupid move in my opinion. I've always liked gaming on console because when you bought a game for your system, you knew that you were getting the same exact experience as everyone else. What happens to online play now? Some people get higher frame rates and resolutions, while others have a disadvantage? What ever happened to optimizing engines so that the same hardware can surprise us time and time again like the PS3 did. How the hell did the same exact hardware go from Uncharted 1 to Last of Us quality? Also, how did the same hardware that ran GTA IV, run GTA V? I was waiting for that to happen with the PS4, but sadly, now devs are going to concentrate on the PS4.5 and leave us OG PS4 owners with crappy software.
bascially they want console to be PC. But they still don't understand that would never happen. Nintendo on the otherhand just stick to their usual 5-6 years cycle releasing new hardware.
Reason why the games looked so amazing last gen is because the consoles especially the PS3 were ahead of their time. Much more powerful than the PS2 era. And because it was the first time we went into HD gaming, we saw phenomenal improvements throughout that just looked GOOD. This time the console power gap this gen did not have a significant increase compared to last gen. So we get minor improvements. But, some have been able to showcase what this gen is about with Driveclub or Uncharted 4. Overall, we won't see the big boost graphics anymore that we used to see in previous gens because of diminishing returns. What devs can hope to achieve is improvements in other aspects of game development.
tbh, i wouldn't buy a wiiu regardless of price or a new model lol got my ps4 a few years ago, and i'll wait to see if the xb1s is worth it.
I have an PS4 and i'am not buying the NEO, not buying the xboneS not buying the Scorpio. What i will buy is the PS5 a few month after release. When i'am looking at the tsunami of games that are coming now, in 2017 and beyond for the PS4 i have so many games to play, who cares about the "new" hardware.
why not, you can always sell it if something better comes out
If you have a 4K tv or plan to get one soon you might as well wait to get a console. Otherwise, buy any or all of them, though if you play XB for it's exclusives you'd be better off buying or building a gaming PC.
