Sony says Kratos's baby momma's fate is a big part of PS4's new God of War

God of War was shown off to the world and its majestic demo and look sent the show abuzz with excitement.

This also show to everybody that this gen still got much to show. The trailer was amazing.

The trailer definitely had me thinking why the boy's mother was the one who initially taught him how to hunt. I'm ignorant of the Viking and Norse culture but I would have assumed that it was the father's role to teach his son how to hunt and kill. Maybe Kratos wasn't around at the time...maybe she died while he was away...(?). Time will tell.

Maybe the boy killed her? I mean he did shoot his Dad with the arrow by mistake during the battle with the troll, so there could have been a tragic accident or something. I doubt this will be the case, just throwing an idea out there, but I look forward to seeing the story unfold.

I really doubt it. I seem to remember the head of Santa Monica or something criticizing games for being sexist. Of course they got flak for being hypocritical, but he said they'd changed, or something.

That's what I'm thinking. By the way the kid is calling Kratos "Sir" it shows that the boy doesn't look at Kratos as a father or Kratos isn't embracing fatherhood yet because he just became apart of this kids life. So going by the demo Kratos has been watching the kid for maybe a few months when the game starts. Asking "who taught you how to hunt" is not something you generally ask if you have seen the kid grow up from birth.

I thought the same thing. Perhaps Kratos is not the biological father but the father figure to the boy if he took his mother to be his wife.

Maybe, that kid's mom is one of the Valkyrie. Kratos is one of the einherjar that the Valkyrie has summoned during the norse era, acting as a father figure for the kid. It's kinda like that Fate/Stay anime, where they can summon dead heroes from different era. That's my theory anyway. lol

That's the coolest thing about this game, we have just seen what is most likely the most tame & common realm of Midgard, there are 8 others out there with wildly different environments & inhabitants. Can't wait to see more of them...if they are going the trilogy route w/ this one, we may visit 3 per game?

She died and went to Elysium, Ares tricked Kratos into killing both his daughter and his wife.

No, his daughters name is Calliope. Persephone is Hades wife and also the final boss in God of War: Chains of Olympus. You get to see Calliope in Chains of Olympus as well.

Persephone offered to reunite Kratos with his daughter Calliope in the Fields of Elysium. This she did, but Kratos reluctantly abandoned Calliope and killed Persephone to stop her from destroying the Pillar, which would have in turn destroyed the Fields of Elysium and Calliope with it.

I love the references to Unforgiven and Old Man Logan. I definitely got that vibe from the trailer. I was also wondering about his wife and the boy's mother as well. I also like the fact that he is trying to protect his son not only from the threats of this new world but also from himself. Having kids I can relate to wanting to protect them though not to the extent that Kratos will have to. I'm really looking forward to this game!

I didn't even put my finger on it until he mentioned it here but I absolutely get that vibe now. That's great that they used Old Man Logan as an inspiration, that's gotta be up there w/ the best Wolverine stories ever written.

Could that also mean we are going on a bit of a road trip through the 9 realms? What happens when we get to Hammer Falls?
