The folks over at Digital Foundry have once again done one of their famous frame rate tests – this time for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Keep in mind, of course, that this is not the final build of the game
I hope they do a re-test on this for both the official Wii U version and the NX version, once the game releases. I get the feeling that judging by a limited demo won't allow them to tell the full technical story, be that story a good or bad one. On a more light-hearted note, if this video hadn't pointed out the frame drops, I honestly can't say that I would have noticed them. In fact, during the treehouse stream, I didn't. And I don't think the majority did, either. Heck, I don't think ANYONE else did, prior to this. Or, at the least, no one came forward about it to my knowledge. That says a lot about how much the visual style has helped it, I guess. It's got some rough patches but it's so pretty that a few small frame drops basically went unnoticed up to this point.
Yeah well i noticed them. Im sure quite a few people did too ;)
Considering your habit of criticizing everything Nintendo does as soon as you notice it, if you had noticed it before now, you'd have leaped at the chance to criticize it. That tells me that you're lying, and that you didn't notice it anymore than anyone else did before this article pointed those moments out.
Uh, look how much Star Fox Zero's frame rate issues improved, by its actual release. BTW Ido not care for SF0, I am just saying it was smoother upon its release, than 6 months prior to it.
I noticed that when they did high panoramic views during treehouse it would skip bad. But how you determine if it's the game and not just the stream. I just never seen someone benchmark game performance of steam videos. Seem kinda inaccurate.
Wow, looks like the game has fairly common frame rate drops into the low/mid 20s, yet it only runs in 720p resolution? And the graphical style of the game is very simple and undemanding, another concession to inadequate hardware. Shame Nintendo didn't put more resources into the Wii U console itself, in order to accommodate the high cost of the gamepad. It left the console completely unable to compete, this generation.
You're saying this about an unfinished product. The last things you do in game development is optimize and debug, I know you know this. For this game to come out in March next year that gives them 6 months to optimize and debug. How about instead of judging an unreleased product you wait for it to be released before judging it?
Let me guess, they held back on optimizing the Zelda demo too because they didn't want to spoil anything by doing so, right? ;)
i really like the art style but the wii u is so underpowered. 3 enemies onscreen and it goes down to 20fps? the game world look beautiful but so bare and nothing really going on. that's why i am a little skeptical of the wii u and hope maybe with the nx they can add stuff in the world and get it to 1080p. if its 1080p and 60fps on the nx that would be incredible.
Why am I getting disagrees when I'm pointing out unfair criticism? I pose a valid question and you disagree with me. You don't like it when someone calls you out on your unfair, biased comments. Here's a little advice, if you don't want to be called out on your unfair, biased comments, don't make the comments in the first place!
You're getting a lot of disagrees because all you ever do is to make excuses for Nintendo's mediocre products and poor decisions. What you might try to do, is to actually demand better products and games from Nintendo, instead of always running damage control for every single action the company takes. Don't just accept everything they do, hold them to a higher standard.
@Zelda http://n4g.com/news/1921049... You should start taking your own advice ;)
You're getting disagrees because this is Sony4G.com where only positive Sony news and negative Nintendo and Xbox news gets high traffic. Plus you're talking to the 2 biggest trolls of this website AKA chiller and lol_wut. If I ever want a laugh I just read their comments haha!
I don't make excuses I call people out when they're being unfair. You didn't even attempt to address my question or my argument because you can't. Any rational person can clearly see your criticism is unfair. You do realize this, right? You're hedging your bets on people not being able to tell the difference between constructive criticism and slander.
Why am I being unfair? Nintendo has been working on Zelda U for a long time, it was originally planned for release this year, which means that the game should be well on the way to completion. So if that's the case, why are they showing gameplay that has these frame rate issues? And why is the game only running at 720p, on a (supposed) 8th generation console? Could it be that the Wii U just wasn't built to adequately handle open world games? That the CPU, GPU, and RAM aren't up to the task at hand? There's nothing unfair about pointing these things out, unless you prefer to keep your head in the sand and pretend that everything Nintendo does is absolutely fantastic. Look no further than Star Fox Zero to see how that works out.
All you have to do is go back to my first comment. IT IS AN UNFINISHED PRODUCT!! If it still has these same issues when it's released then sure, feel free to complain then, I won't object to it then, but right now that is unfair. Not that what they even showed is much to complain about in the first place. The game still plays perfectly fine. Why is it that you want to take everything, no matter how small, and make it seem like the end of the world? At least when it comes to Nintendo. I want to see you saying the exact same thing about sony and microsoft though if FF15 has performance issues, which I'm sure it will. If it bothers you with Nintendo then it should bother you with everyone.
Dude you might as well be talking to a wall. They are trolls for a reason lol
it's bigger than every other game that was at E3.
It was a demo, the game isn't finished. This is Nintendo, they make the best games in the world. You above all people should know that by now ;)
"Nintendo's mediocre products " LMAO!!!! Which game won IGN's and Gamespot's GOTS for E3 2016? I'm sorry I can't hear you??? What's that? Oh yeah that's right, ZELDA did. #DealWithIt
NX version will be 1080/60 hopefully.
it more than likely be 1080p 30fps
i wouldn't be suprised
Why would you want 60fps on an open world rpg? Better be 30 fps and with amazing draw distances, better textures and so on
i want both,how about that?
why can't I reply to your comment? Anyways, why would you want 60fps in this kind of game? Maybe if it was made to be 60fps since the beggining it would be okay, but I just hate when a game is made to be 30fps and then they make it 60fps, it looks really weird, like everything is accelerated...
30 FPS with drops to low 20s is common for finished games on both PS4 and X1 this game still has 6 months development time not to mention a whole other version designed for superior hardware. This is a complete non issue amplified by the usual toxic fanboys.
Hopefully they can improve the frame rate quite considerably by release.
Probably will be. Considering this demo was probably late 2015 or early 2016 build since they had to set their E3 booth up with Zelda/
Once they fix the framerate, it'll be sweet for Nintendo owners, looks good as well.
