Richard Leadbetter of Eurogamer feels the PS4 NEO will be out by the end of the year, but TNT thinks otherwise.
Sony are in a difficult position here no way can they compete against the Scorpio with their rumored specs of the neo. The positives Sony has are the games, cheaper console and the year head start if they can keep producing great games then they should do well. The Scorpio if it's priced right will sell very well due to it being the most powerful console ever and thats what people want like everything in life big house fast car etc. Now all Microsoft has to do is keep the games coming show what the Scorpio is capable of and it really needs some Scorpio only exclusives not on pc platform then they should do well.
The most powerful console is often not the best selling though. PS4 is kind of a fluke in that regard.
Only took 8 generations to break that trend. PS4 has the holy trinity to make it a success. Price, performance and brand recognition. @stardust... games were subjective in quality and appeal. The three points listed are factual plus trinity is relative to three. If i added a fourth then it would be just... weird.
Sony already beat Microsoft. How many times do they have to beat them?
Exclusive output is going into beast mode. Ps2 era.
microsoft was gonna win, but they played themselves, announcing scorpio along with the slim, whos gonna buy the slim now if scoprio's coming out next year?
@Shauzy, TBH Microsoft already lost with the X1. They knew this and that's why announced Scorpio because they lost the X1 to the PS4. They just decided to move on to the next Gen and wash their hands of the x1
Sales don't dictate the best console either. The Wii beat both the PS3 and 360 last gen, was it the best console or the best selling? The PS4 is definitely the best console for Playstation gamers, it is also the best selling. These two things alone should be enough to please Playstation fans. For Xbox and PC gamers, the PS4 is far from the best or "beating" anything since it isn't relevant to anyone other than Playstation fans. @thekhurg, Define "lost". Sony lost quite a bit of marketshare last gen to Microsoft and Nintendo. When you look at the regions/countries the Playstatioin and Xbox are available, I'm not sure why some fans think Microsoft is trying to outsell Sony. Sony will most likely outsell Microsoft with a less powerful console. I think that is a given. The question I have is why do feel that makes Playstation the best? People that own an Xbox bought the console they feel is best just like people that buy a Playstation think they bought the best console. Why do you feel someone has to be wrong?
On top of that, Sony has never lost to Microsoft regardless of who had the more powerful console. Nothing is going to change with the new waste of money console MS is trying to shove down people's throats.
MS is resetting with Scorpio because 2013 won't rub off X1. Its like a permanent marker that kinda rubs off, but can never fully wash off the mark. And some of the reason is because is lagging behind PS4 but I think the nightmare of 3 years ago is there to stay on the current Xbox.
Now a days power is more of a factor than in the past. The X1 and PS4 have basically the same architecture. The PS4 was just stronger and cheaper. Had the X1 been stronger than the PS4, that console wouldn't have been the run away hit it's been so far. The sales would've been much more even. Microsoft killed themselves by having a weaker and more expensive console at launch. They've been on the back foot ever since. Anyway, people generally pay much more attention to specs these days. It's the world we live in now.
That's the fanboy battle cry for the last couple of years now. All of a sudden it's a fluke, power don't matter, it's how many games you have and my games run at 1080 and you get 900. You guys gotta make up your mind which one is it?
the ps4 neo will sell very well and all the skeptics (more so the current ps4 owenrs) will shut their mouths because deep down they have always wanted to get it.
everything about the ps4 was a fluke. If it weren't for Microsoft messing up the Xbox One launch they wouldn't be that far ahead. Everyone loved the 360. And they wouldn't have jumped ship.
Neo is not competing with Scorpio. Neo is apart of this gen. Phil Spencer said he wanted Scorpio to go beyond generations. "Can Sony beat Microsoft" ? Sony are already beating Microsoft. This gen has already been secured.
Scorpio is part of this gen just as Neo is. They are both mid-gen upgrades that will play the same games as the lower-powered XB1 and PS4, but with enhanced visuals and/or framerates. Neither the Neo nor Scorpio will have exclusives the PS4 and XB1 don't.
@Starchild Scorpio is not a mid gen upgrade. It is set to launch roughly 4 years after the Xbox One. With 4.5x the GPU power.
That's exactly right. PS neo is just an upgraded ps4 while Scorpio is a brand new next gen console, MS have basically admitted the Xbox one is a lost cause and moving quickly to next gen. Problem is PS5 will probably be out 2 years after Scorpio and have much better specs.
@starchild You don't go from sub 1080p to 4K gaming and call it a mid gen upgrade. The boss of Xbox said himself "beyond generations"
By 'beyond generations" they mean that there are no more generations. There will just be upgraded versions of the same platform with games running on any of the devices on that platform.
@Ravenhertzero that is correct. the Scorpio is the next xbox. Neo is a PS4 not a PS5.
You guys are so contradicting. If Scorpio runs the same game and uses the same accessories as Xbox One, isn't that the same as how the Neo works? Just because it will come out a year after the Neo and will a 2 tflop advantage, that makes it a new gen?
Xbox one will be able to play every game that comes out on Scorpio
The other difference is that Scorpio is able to play VR and the other Xbox's will not. That looks like a next gen feature to me. Both Ps4 versions will run VR. Not to mention, the way they didn't even showcase how the system will look gives you the new gen feel.
I'm not fully understanding how you guys are trying to define a generation based on power unless they've come out and stated that they themselves are making games specifically for Scorpio I don't think it's a new generation cuz they would have come out and already stated such a thing. Scorpio is nothing more than an upgrade just like Neo regardless of the difference of power. a new platform is based on a new market and Scorpio is sharing the market with Xbox one it isn't its own Market , Microsoft is not making its own games specific to that platform.
@Startchild and the rest of xbox fans that are saying Scorpio is just a mid gen upgrade. So what sort of upgrade will the XBOX 2 have since as you guys say mid gen XBOX 1 upgrade Scorpio will be 4K gaming?. 8K gaming?. lol!. 1. The power increase of Scorpio is almost the same as the power increase of the X1 from the X360. 2. This gen is suppose to be shorter than last gen 8 years. The industry was expecting 2018 reveal and 2019 launch for the 9th gen. Scorpio is not a mid gen upgrade. MS are just pacifying you xbox fans that already bought an X1 with the idea that it is one. Fact is MS just want to start fresh with a new console as everything they have done to try an compete with the PS4 for the first 2 years (Kenitc removal, Price drop, 5 game bundle, Power of the cloud marketing BS, DX12 marketing BS, X360 BC, Greatest lineup in history including Halo 5, PC multi-plat) didn't make a dent. What is worse is that this at the time when the PS4 still has not hit its stride until this year starting with U4. MS knows they have lost this gen and lost badly since it looks like they will do marginally better than they did with the original XBOX which is ironic. Why they are not reporting numbers anymore. Announcing a new console is really their only card left this gen and thats the card they have played.
They are both mid cycle refreshes. It's a more powerful X1 just like the Neo. How is it any different than the Neo?
With a one year head start I think they will do just fine especially in sales and with upcoming exclusives that should keep the momentum going for them.
Didn't Xbox 360 also have a 1 year head start as well? The ps4 and X1 released nearly the same time and the ps4 has a 20 million lead.
Sony is not in a 'difficult position'....like at all And like you said if Sorpio doesnt have exclusive its spec are not going to make that much difference with Neo, and both go for playing the same games as previous models anyway. If anything, regarding the article assuming Neo could release this year then Ms would be in a 'difficult' position for at least a year in the middle of a generation
I don't know about that. With Neo, Scorpio and gaming PCs all with healthy user bases I think developers will find it worthwhile to push the visuals in games much more. Yes, the games will still have to scale down to the capabilities of the PS4 and XB1, but there is still a lot you can do to push the visuals to much higher levels on the more powerful platforms.
The original Xbox sold a ton due to it's power advantage didn't it? @theRedDragon You would be naive to think that digital foundry has any impact on the millions of gamers out their. It's mainly the enthusiasts that pay attention to such stuff. Scorpio is almost 20 months away, whereas Neo is rumoured to launch this year. Guess which company is in a better position to increase their consumer base? You want me to help you decide? Sure young man, you can already own a machine that will positively trounce the scorpio. Look into pc gaming. But if you're strictly comparing between the upcoming consoles, Scorpio will have the better specs.
@Genuine, lol. I see what you did there. Sneaky.
Digital Founder wasn't around back in the original Xbox era. Now with social media and sites like Digital foundry to inform people of the better versions, who knows. Xbox 360 and PS4 sure benefitted from those comparison media. Same could happen to Scorpio. Looking forward to those article submissions from you comes next year to help us decide.
If anything, the console multiplatform comparisons have died down since then. Lens of truth used to be big back during the 360 and PS3 and all of a sudden they disappeared. I guess people have up finding the minuscule differences when the advantage is always clearly in the PS4 version of games.
Power doesn't matter, it's the fookin games and right now, Sony is destroying MS with the games. Making a console like Scorpio isn't going too boost their sells. They should have focused on making new IP's or sequels.
@sean, " sony are in a very difficult position " LMAO!!!! Really!? 1) sony is outselling Microsoft 2 to 1. 2) sony is the number 1 software Sellar. 3)sony has true exclusives and more. 4)sony's "Neo" is going against xbox S not Scorpio. Scorpio is a next Gen console. You think Microsoft is coming out with a new console every year? Expect sony to announce PS5 next year. Plus we don't know the specs for NEO yet. You guys are unbelievable. The hypocrisy is very strong with you guys. I guess now is a big deal who has the strongest console. Lol. @starchild, are you dence? Scorpio is next gen. Phil himself said he doesn't want a xbox 1.5. He wants next gen. You try way too hard. My lord!!!
Hypocrisy has always been strong with M$.. First it was Sony has no games.. Now Exclusives don't matter or Graphics don't matter, Now Graphics will be king, because.. Scorpio. -I could go on, but you get the gist.
"Expect sony to announce PS5 next year" Sparta I agree with everything you said except for this part. No way Sony announces PS5 next year. At the EARLIEST, I expect Sony to announce it sometime in 2018. The Neo is meant to be a way to add longevity this generation, not release it and then immediately announce a brand new console after the fact.
Sony are in a difficult dilemma going forward into the future not what they have achieved already in the past If they release the neo this year and it's a BIG if. They will release their console and it will do fine for a year or 6 months until the Scorpio arrives and then people will jump in on that "look at me the most powerful console" and then multiplats will out perform the neo and Microsoft will have the strongest console until the ps5 comes out. You are in denial if you think the ps5 is going to be out anytime soon what I think Sonys plan is if the neo comes out this October that's 3 years until the original ps4 came out so realistically the ps5 will be out in 3 years after the neo so this generation will be 6 to 7 years long with a mid gen upgrade. We are looking at a 2019 to 2020 release date for the ps5 so that gives the more powerful Scorpio 2 to 3 years on the market being the most powerful console. Everytime a company release a new console it cost billions of $ Sony said when they was going to put 4gb of memory in the ps4 but then changed it to 8gb at the last minute that one decision cost roughy a 1 billion dollars so they are taking a massive risk yes the ps4 is successful and it's paid off for Sony but they cannot release consoles like that they haven't got the money to gamble like Microsoft.
seanpit "Sony are in a difficult dilemma going forward into the future not what they have achieved already in the past If they release the neo this year and it's a BIG if. They will release their console and it will do fine for a year or 6 months until the Scorpio arrives and then people will jump in on that "look at me the most powerful console" and then multiplats will out perform the neo and Microsoft will have the strongest console until the ps5 comes out. " Lol! dude why would Sony be in a difficult dilemma when they are happily sitting at 40 mil plus user base. and dude you're so wrong if you think people will jump onto scorpio and say LOOK AT ME THE MOST POWERFUL CONSOLE , you know what people will say "hey i can simply get a PC and stick with Neo" ... Scorpio will be expensive for sure and with the number of first party and exclusives Sony has and yes not like milking Forza and having Halo and gears but solid new IP Neo gonna do extremely well. Scropio will cost more and gamers now have options to go to PC.. Also you're right Sony doesn't have that kind of money like a MS, a tech software company... no wonder xbox is surviving for this very reason... Xbox as a whole is not doing well for MS but PS as a whole is helping Sony a lot..
why are people still comparing the Neo with the Scorpio, both are two differnet types of consoles, Neo is comparable with Xbox One S, Scorpio will be compared to PS5 when its released 2018/2019. People are confused as to what the consoles are.... makes my head hurt
So a 1.3 TF console is comparable with a 4.14 TF console? HUH???/
Like it or not Neo will be comparable with the Scorpio!! The Xbox one s is just a Xbox one that's a bit smaller and 4K media player.
@Seanpit, which is exactly liek the Neo. Scoprio is next gen, Neo is a mid gen upgrade. its not that hard to see it EDIT: If its the same power, how is it expected to upscale to 4k?
Neo is more than double the power of the ps4 the xbox one s is the same in performance to the xbox one how is this the same.
No need to beat a dead horse.
Specs are great, but it still comes down to games.
Why does Sony need to do anything when.....THE ORIGINAL PS4 IS SELLING WELL? For the last freaking time.
They can have both. Would you recommend a burger establishment to not have a drive-thru just because they're doing well? So don't do better?
They don't need to do anything yet to undermine the PS4s that are selling well.
I don't know. I see the Scorpio doing terribly. Time will tell.
Scorpio will be priced high. Why buy the most powerful console ever when you can play the same games on PC? "Keep the games coming", what games? Forza Gears, Halo, is the same ip over and over again worth buying an expensive console for, that once again you could just play on PC anyway.
Sony is in no way in a difficult position. They have the momentum, the sales which are ridiculously outpacing the competition and lets not forget the software variety that regardless of how powerful the Scorpio is will keep their fans gaming on the Sony platform. Lets not forget that the Ps3 multiplats were in the first years inferior to Xbox360 and Ps3 was hundreds more yet when the Ps3 laucnhed almost every single month they outsold the xbox 360 world wide. Sony is not in that position anymore (actually in a better one) and are leading and stealing the show. Two things can potentially happen 1) it releases earlier and of course will be inferior to a console coming out a year or so later (common sense) but that wont hinder their sales but will only cement them and keep the sales moving forward (i will be traiding in my ps4 for a Neo) or 2) they didnt announce the specs at E3 because they said lets hold up and wait it out since we are in the lead and Microsoft jumped the gun and we can now come out with beefier specs to be comparable to Scorpio. Its bs when ppl say that Sony cant beef up the specs now because the system is in production lol says who? From what we gather most devs were caught off guard when Neo was announced formally few weeks ago meaning none of them ever had dev kits. Either way the latter still works out for Sony because they'll still continue with strong sales and gamers will be provided with an even stronger system. I dont see anything difficult with Sonys position, if anything they are the ones who dictate when and how. They are pushing Microsofts hand which is why they jumped an announced a new console only in name but nothing tangible. Either way as a gamer who loves hardware as much as software (love my vita to death!!!!) i am excited and am very happy with the competitive nature of both companies. I am happy Scorpio was announced bcus itll sit really nice right along my Neo and PSVR.
@gamerswin I agree with your last paragraph I think this will help gaming move forward quicker than ever before and I praise Microsoft for having the balls to do what they have done and this is a guy who has only ever bought Sonys hardware never bought an xbox because they never apealed to me. Scorpio might change that though but. And what if just before the Scorpio launch (TGS 2017) Sony announce their next upgrade that is even more powerful than the Scorpio and shipping holiday 2018. That would put a damper on Scorpio sales. It's Microsoft that are in a precarious position by showing their hand almost 18 months ahead of time. Meanwhile it looks like the NEO will be the most powerful console until Scorpio launches.
How many people have 4k TVs though? only the real hardcore will buy the Scorpio and if the games will be the same and backwards compatible, why would any one thats not a hardcore gamer purchase a scorpio?
How's Sony in a difficult position? Its MS in a difficult position. They are releasing two consoles back to back since the Standard Xbox one is less powerful... Sony is happily sitting at 40mil plus and Neo will surely be Cheaper then Scorpio.. Also it will have a one year ahead advantage over Scorpio.. MS needs to produce better games and not depend on Milking Forza every year..and not to forget Halo and Gears will always be there.. By the time Scorpio releases Neo will be more cheaper and not to forget the amount of First party games Sony owns.. This year E3 was on their Best. And also a powerful specs doesn't mean its Better. And i am not hating the xbox i believe its a great system and i personally owe one and will sell it off and get the xbox slim and scorpio but one needs to understand that Playstation is doing better then the Xbox one and has better games to offer and not just to stick old once...
I wouldn't say people wanted the best or most powerful if it isn't the platform they enjoy and prefer. Regardless of specs, I will never switch from Sony as they are my platform of choice and of loyalty. But the Scorpio will be a great upgrade for those who really want it.
Sony already is destroying MS, and you fanboys are crying about it hoping that Project Bone will save you hahaha. LMFAO
YEa because ps3 totally worked out well for sony going with "the most powerful console no matter what the cost" type of logic.
'The positives Sony has are the games' . . . . . that's the only positive a console needs...
No. If the games look like crap in comparison it will hurt it. If all you care about is "the games" and not how they look then just get a cheap PS2 right?
The real question should be if MS Scorpio can compete with a much larger install base of the Sony PS4 / PS4 NEO by the time Scorpio is released late next year. Another thing I do not get is that the Xbox One is not selling so great now. Why? It lowered it's price, had promotions that gave games away and yet it did not slow down the momentum of the PS4 at all. So I don't see how a much more powerful Xbox (with a higher price I might add) would persuade those who did not buy an Xbox One to begin with. All that considering most, if not all Xbox games would be able to be played on a PC as well in the near future. So those with the means to want the best third party games would go the PS4, PC route and those with the means to get them all would go PS4, NX, PC.
The neo is to take on the xbox one s, not the scorpio. The neo is a mid gen console, scorpio is next gen. It won't have exclusives because everything going forwarded is windows 10.
nah people just need a PS4 NEO/Windows 10 gaming PC
2013: XBox One & PS4 2016: XBox One S & PS4 Neo 2017: XBox Scorpio 2019 (keeping PS4 three years intervals): PS4 Meerkat (my perfect name choice) If Sony wants they could announce PS4 Meerkat same week as Scorpio is actually released, as releasing info 18 months before is acceptable... (leak will be earlier)
Actually, Sony Beat out Microsoft XBOX long ago. Especially, in E3 Conference this year, 2016. Scorpio wasn't ready to have games supporting this hardware yet. They never introduce new games at E3 2016 conferences this year. Not like Sony already introduces games with NEO setup and planned.
Sony can gain a lot of momentum with the Neo if they get a headstart but that means that they will be completely outclassed in terms of specs.
outclassed In terms of specs, maybe. In terms of talent? Never.
