Project Scorpio and PlayStation 4 NEO; End of Console Generations?

Phil Spencer at E3 2016 stated we are moving beyond generations in console gaming; is this the last generation of consoles?

sony wants to come across as the one who listens more and are trying to deflame project scorpio as they try and sell you ps4 neo later this year but dont want to talk it about it now so people dont wait, lol.

Nope just introduction of mid? (3 years into a supposed 8-10 year console cycle) generation reinvigoration/reinvention/rev ision. But like Nintendo have always done with their handhelds and all consoles have ways had a remodel or slim (master system 2, psOne, Wii mini 360 slim etc) now instead of being purely released as they are cheaper to manufacture and normally lower cost for buyers and smaller now they will have actual upgraded aspects rather than a completely new infrastructure) just revised tweaked and upgraded a little here and there.

In terms of sticking to X86 architecture and thus using the opportunity to have build in backwards compatibility I would say yes, this is the end of generations, finally we can have an ever growing games library that will carry over on every follow up hardware.

For hardware I would say we are heading down the right lane too, as long as they keep the HW iterations in a 3 years or 4 years cycle, with the ambition of having lower quality versions of new games with the old HW. Giving the consumer the choice to decide, whether they want to be console HW enthusiasts and want the state of the art console tech or be contempt with the current console versions of games, is a good move IMO.
Having the ease of use of a console mixed with HW that taps into the highend(-ish) HW space is great.
