Don’t Get an Xbox One Scorpio if You Don’t Have a 4K TV

The Xbox One Scorpio will truly be a powerful gaming machine; however, to get the most out of it, you will need a 4K TV.

That’s right, Scorpio is aimed at hardcore gamers with a lot of money to spend. Are you one? Will you get the upgraded console?

Rubbish! How did this crap title get approved! Phil is even quoted in the article stating: Clearly, you can buy Scorpio, and if and when you decide you want to buy a 4K television to take advantage of the increased performance, obviously the console will be ready for you. Also mentioned in other interviews is that Scorpio games can also be targeted for 1080p.

emawk3298d ago

That's not the point.

Why buy something so expensive if you don't intend to use for what it was designed for?

vegasgamerdawg3297d ago

No, you missed the point by a mile. He said you can still benefit, THAT'S WHY! Also, expensive is subjective, you're poor doesn't mean everybody else is. You live in a bubble. By the way, I'm glad you already know the future prices. Care to share, we call all be rich, you're so smart you know the future...lol , you think you're that smart...lol

thrust3297d ago

How expensive is it????

Sitdown3297d ago

1) It's not they expensive. 2) It's called preparing future proofing.

It all depends on how this will take shape. If the only difference between XBONE and XBOS games will be the 4k resolution, then yes, it'll be pointless without a 4k TV. However, if games are being targeted at 1080 resolution with added FX + better performance on the XBOS, then a 4K TV adds nothing..

So, I'm very curious what direction the developers will take, or will be pushed for. My guess: 4k resolution to push 4K TV's. Plus, I think it's easier to just make 1 version of the game and up the resolution for XBOS, rather than adjusting all kinds of other parameters to suit either XBONE/XBOS.

Ideally, you'd be given to choice between 2 modes: '4k mode' or '1080p + added fx mode' on XBOS (and obviously won't have this option on XBONE).

It got approved because N4G is a pro Sony site and anything that reflects MS in a negative light gets approved. I would love to see a article get approved telling people not to buy a Neo but I seriously doubt that would happen On this site.

TheCommentator3296d ago

The article's headline alone is way off base. Phil already said not to think of the device as a 4K Xbox, because it's up to developers to decide if they want the higher resolution of 4k or better quality pixels in 1080p.

subtenko3297d ago

and then we'll all be upset when Xbox Two is announced 2 years later.

Just like on PC, there will likely be an option to run at 1080p. They wouldn't do themselves any favors if it was 4k only. They'd turn off lots of potential buyers. You can just just that power and increase textures, AA, DoF, AF, lighting, etc.

Whoever wrote this article clearly has no technical knowledge.

ShadowKnight3297d ago (Edited 3297d ago )

This console is really build for 4K resolution and content

Lennoxb633297d ago (Edited 3297d ago )

You don't know what you're talking about. If you take it down to 1080p you can use the available energy to increase different graphics, AA, and lighting settings. You'll definitely see it in 1080p.

jessionpc3297d ago

What a shame... The fact and absolute truth is this:

Graphics are not currently advanced enough that we should be focusing on 4k, over fidelity.

1080p gives a beautiful picture, and until our games can drop painted grass on the ground, "even Uncharted 4 has green colored polygon hills", there is no point to going 4k...

Other than trying to push it as a buzz word like the tv industry has for the past half a decade...

Oh well... At least the image will be much clearer... Still woulda took 60 fps over 4k any day of the week tho. <- a 4k pc gaming using.

thrust3297d ago

Someone not played 4K gaming by the sounds of it lol

conanlifts3297d ago (Edited 3297d ago )

4k gaming does look very nice though and that's without hdr. But i do partly agree. There is too much focus on resolution and not enough on assetts and graphics.
I am also skeptical as to whether a 6 tflop console can do 4k 60fps in future games.

Paytaa3297d ago

I don't have a 4K TV and the Scorpio isn't only targeting 4K televisions. The specs that we know of are pretty sick in my opinion and I'm most likely going to buy one at launch since it's slated for Holiday 2017 which gives me time to save up.

This generation has been decent so far but one thing that sticks out is the fact that it isn't THAT much of a leap from last gen in comparison to the leap we saw from say an OG Xbox to a 360 or PS2 to PS3.

If the Scorpio is truly pushing 4.5x the power of the Xbox One, that's freaking awesome.

I cannot wait to see what Halo 6 does with all that extra baggage in the Scorpio. That's something I'm really looking forward to.

ShadowKnight3297d ago (Edited 3297d ago )

I cannot wait to see what it does on the PC. When Halo 6 come out it will be new and powerful GPUs available by that time.

Foehammer3297d ago (Edited 3297d ago )

Yes

Just like Halo 3, Halo 6 will set a sales numbers for MS that can't be matched.

The biggest game of 2017

Perhaps a "Halo Reach" remaster in 4k, then Halo 6 then.

Either way, it will be GINORMOUS.

ShadowKnight3297d ago (Edited 3297d ago )

@Foehammer I didn't know Halo 6 was coming out next year? Halo 5 hasn't been out a year yet. Did Microsoft announce Halo 6?

Finch3297d ago

Its way over a year away. Save for a new 4k TV and then the Scorpio. Even if you late on getting Scorpio you will be happy with a new 4k tv until you save up for the Scorpio.
