Shame it's just "a Mission", I was hoping for the VR experience across the base game. But I guess thus is beter than nothing.

Aenea2870d ago

1) it's free
2) I see this as the bigger publishers trying stuff out with VR
3) also believe that flying (and driving) is one of the things that couch VR will be crazy fun for and always expected this to be just the flying part of Battlefront

Still can't wait for it tho!

Zorkaz2870d ago

Another ******* Playstation exclusive! At this point it's taking the piss, and this way they'll eventually tear up the whole gaming industry!

More VR Star Wars Could Be in the Works as DICE Reveals Collaborative Effort

Who doesn't want more Star Wars VR?

XXanderXX2640d ago (Edited 2640d ago )

As long that they are offered on all VR
Platform then cool.

Ron_Danger2640d ago (Edited 2640d ago )

I totally agree XXanderXX. I have PSVR and my brother in law has oculus and it's fun going back and forth talking about it with him but I really wish all VR games were multiplat (at least until the install base it higher all around). When it came to Kinect vs. Move I understood the competition because they offered very different experiences, but (in my own personal experience) PSVR/ Oculus/ Vive are pretty much the same so I wish everything came out for all of them so as many people as possible to experience it.

Nodoze2640d ago

Give us some Rogue Squadron or better yet how about some X-Wing vs Tie Figther goodness - reimagined in VR. I for one would love to play as an empire trainee in a tie fighter. Who WOULDN'T???

_-EDMIX-_2640d ago

That would be absolutely insane if just like Resident Evil 7 you could play the entire single player of the next Battlefront in VR!!!!

Ron_Danger2640d ago

Especially with the new controller (I forget the name of it but the one that's for Farpoint). RE7 really proves that you can make a fully controllable first person shooter for vr without the need for the whole "point to an area and teleport to it" control scheme.

Utalkin2me2640d ago

@Ron_Danger

""point to an area and teleport to it" control scheme."

Which games are those? Only one i have played like that is Batman.

Ron_Danger2640d ago (Edited 2640d ago )

@Utalkin2me

There's a few on oculus that I've played but they were just demos. One of them (I don't remember the name of it) is developed by Epic Games and it's a shooter in a subway station. It's awesome, I just wish you had full movement.

I think the Final Fantasy 15 vr game is point to move also.

Edit: heres the Epic Games demo:

More and more triple A games are coming people! VR IS ABOUT TO TAKE OFF BIG TIME! more psvr sale, we will see next Fallout series,Call of Duty series,Battlefield series and tons more

BenRC012640d ago

Speed bikes and pod racing.

Juiceid2640d ago

Controlling the at at in vr?!

BenRC012640d ago

Taking down at ats in vr!

Ron_Danger2640d ago (Edited 2640d ago )

I'd be down with even a simple Jedi training game where you use the force to move things/ solve puzzles and also a light saber trainer where you deflect lasers and fight droids leading up to actual light saber battles. It would totally work with the Move controllers (it would work fine with oculus touch, just wouldn't feel as natural since the Touch controllers are more set up for shooting guns than holding swords based on controller angle design).

Juiceid2639d ago

The lightsaber games should have come out when the move was released. Even more so now!

Ron_Danger2639d ago (Edited 2639d ago )

@juiceid

I don't disagree with you, but I'm glad they didn't come out with one back then. The PS3 tracked the move controllers 1:1 but there was slight lag with fast movement which would've been a huge problem with fast light saber fights. That problem is gone with the PS4. The 1:1 tracking and zero lag makes now the perfect time for it.

If you own PlayStation VR and SW Battlefront, drop everything right now and go play Battlefront VR

Back in August, I experienced something I knew was pretty special, something I know has been every Star Wars fan’s wet dream since they first saw A New Hope on Betamax.

its free but not for everyone with a psvr. crimmins got that wrong. you need battlefront. its not like the jackal vr mission in IW.

Neonridr2697d ago

yep, that should be clarified in the title. Not all PSVR owners can get access to this. That being said, I definitely own Battlefront. So I will be checking this out this evening.

JackBNimble2696d ago

That's why I paid $12 for Battlefront on black Friday psn sale. PSVR is the only reason I made this purchase.

DEEBO2696d ago (Edited 2696d ago )

Too bad the whole game didn't do vr.

formanbradley2696d ago

You can use PSVR with any game, right? I thought it has 3 screen settings or whatever, with one being IMAX-esque.

Spenok2696d ago

You can, but with the game's that' don't have support its only a simulated big screen in front of you. Not actual VR.

ibrake4naps2696d ago

how do you change the virtual screen's size?

DEEBO2696d ago

Yes you can but that's cinema mode.
I'm talking about vr mode.

G20WLY2695d ago

@ibrake4naps, if you hold the PS button on the controller, the option comes up on the right hand side (possibly only if you have the VR headset turned on) for you to choose the screen size.

The small screen stays in front of the headset wherever you turn, so it's nice to watch a film while laying down. The medium one is the standard size and the large screen is HUGE - you have to turn your head to see the far left and right of the screen, like being in the front row at the cinema.

Really interested to see if Criterion gets on a full VR game. I really enjoyed this mission, and think they could do a whole lot more with this demo

Gamist2dot02696d ago

Tried this and they need to release a full game! Trench runs, flying A, B, X, and Y wings, taking on AT-ATs and Star Destroyers! Do it Criterion!

Aenea2696d ago

The VR mission is, ehmm, okay. It's amazing to be in an X-Wing for (virtual) reals! But I hoped the mission would be more or longer, or would have more than one. I should have known tho of course, it's just a teaser of sorts, but I want more, MORE!

FunAndGun2696d ago

well hey, at least they didn't charge for it, surprisingly.

Can't wait to try it. Hopefully there will be more missions in the near future.

NukaCola2699d ago

Hopefully Rogue Squadron VR. A full fledged game

hduce2699d ago

Have any of you tried the VR mission for Infinite Warfare? It's very short but awesome. I can't wait to try this one for Battlefront. In the future, hopefully we get full games based on content like this. The really cool thing is the VR add ons for these games are free.

XXanderXX2699d ago

Shame EA is making a Disney IP based story exclusive to only one HMD unit , it should be available to all HMD units .
Shame .

Leeroyw2699d ago

Not really sure I agree that it's shameful.

I mean this is a thank you to people who already bought battlefront for ps4.

And its free. How can you call that a shame?

XXanderXX2699d ago

So what of those that bought Battlefront on other platforms or what of those other HMD that are available and the one to arrive next year. So basically screw half of those that bought the game and those future sales .

Aenea2699d ago

This exclusive crap happens, it's stupid, but what can we do?

XXanderXX2699d ago

Buy it at bargain bin price or rent it from a service not associated with developer or publisher .
I recommended second hand buy or rent from Redbox - Game fly .

Ben Dover2699d ago

@XXanderXX

It's free. Good luck doing that -.- Go troll somewhere else.

kraenk122699d ago (Edited 2699d ago )

As someone who adored X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter back then, I can't imagine how this must feel in VR. Think I'm gonna tear up.

CorndogBurglar2699d ago (Edited 2699d ago )

Unfortunately we will never see another Star Wars flight simulator of the same quality as X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and X-Wing vs Tie Fighter.

Controllers don't have enough buttons to make the same kind of game. Literally every button on the keyboard did something in those games. So unless they make a PC only version, the consoles can never really live up to that scale of gameplay. Its sad too. Tie Fighter is my favorite game of all time. I would seriously give my third nut for a new one of the same quality.

Every flight based Star Wars game since then has been disappointing because it just feels like a watered down attempt.

kraenk122699d ago

I agree...playing this with a flight stick back then was glorious. You're probably right..today a big franchise like this will always try to appeal to the casuals.
