If you watched the conferences starting from last year , and Windows 10 in April you would see that Microsoft and re branding the Xbox completely in a way with modern times like apple and TVs.

Xbox live is now the operating system , the console war is over , it was over years ago when PC ran away with gaming because Xbox and PlayStation left it too late to enter the HD race. And now entered when 4K is the norm in the world with people , tv shows and movies. And gaming.

Xbox live is the operating system which PC games and Xbox markets are house under. If anyone is going to split the market its Sony by making VR games separate from their PlayStation games , you want batman in VR you need VR versio you can't just covert the one you have.

However even PlayStation are re branding ( the ps4 , ps VR and Neo ) all under PlayStation brand yet will appeal to Diffrent constumers ... The spider man game looked amazing , yet it wil most likely only look like that on PlayStation neo . Differed is with Sony and Microsoft they had the frame structure already and now making use of it Sony don't ... Even the Xbox Scorpio is open to any VR head set working on it , meaning you can use rift or Samsung ... Games will have one version when put into your machine you will have the option of VR or 4K , developers will have more freedom to add things and won't be restricted by graphic power or operating system.

Just like apple are doing , Mac book , Mac book air , Mac book pro

iMac , iMac 4K , iMac 5k , iMac pro ...

All the same brand and all the same operating system , aimed at each person for their needs

Xfiles us an appropriate name. Three or four years ago the cheapest 4k was several thousand dollars, now its less than $600. That is a very mainstream price. There was very little 720p content when he launched back in 2004. That's how this stuff works. If you build it they will come.

Phil's comment on Scorpio release makes it clear the GPU with either be Vega or a Polaris modified for efficiency or with a die shrink. More than likely it will have Vega. If AMD estimates are correct again and performance is 2x per watt it will be a cut down GPU or the console will be more powerful than they are letting on. Twice the performance per watt means 5.5 teraflops turns to 11 teraflops at 150 watts. If Microsoft maintains the 150 watt power envelope expect Zen instead of updated Jaguar. To push more than pretty pictures count on Zen.

I wouldn't say exploding, but they're pretty cheap. If my current 5 year old TV died, I'd get a 4K one. They're affordable and by the end of next year, most companies will be trying to phase out their 1080p TVs.

Too true. I have two now, one early adopter and the other when prices dropped dramatically. Shopping around for my third for a computer monitor. Phones and tablets already have over 1080p resolution and can record in 4k.

UHD Blu Ray's have a small library and Xbox S will be the 3rd blu ray player that has the capability to play in 4K. If history is anything to go by, next year we will have consoles, streaming, and physical media all outputting 4K resolution. This will coincide with UHD and SUHD prices becoming even more affordable than they are now.

There is plenty of content to go around.

I can't watch a 10 episode season of anything even in HD without it blowing through my 400G data cap, so hopefully that will issue a change in that policy. (Games do not use nearly the same amount of bandwidth as streaming.) That's also assuming the ISPs will even allow it without downgrading. Hell, they downgrade HD content as it is and the infrastructure isn't there in most homes to even use 4k. In cases of providers forcing data caps, I doubt it will be affordable and I wouldn't trust them to send a true 4k signal you'd be paying for to begin with.

Because if you are spending in the $259-1000 range you easily have a bunch of choices for 4ktv's. 4k/30, 4k/60, 4ktv's that can also do 1080/120. All sorts of sizes from 39-60 inches.

I've had a PS4 since launch(2.5 years roughly) we don't need a new system in another 1.5 years. A 4 year console cycle you can't be happy with that. Go PC game if you want the latest tech. Console cycles take time because they wait for a "significant" leap in graphics, framerate, ai and etc. 4 years is not a big enough gap

Thats not true. When the X360 dropped back in 2005 it was more powerful than any Pc on the market at the time and so was the PS3. When the Scorpio drop next year it will be more powerful than most PCs on the market. This will not hurt console gaming see as Microsoft has already come out and said all games on the Scorpio will work on the current X1 going forward. Sony has confirmed this as well.

Not quite. There were pcs with more power than either of those consoles. The difference is it was only the top of the line pcs. The xbox and ps4 on the other hand were barely comparable to mid range pcs at launch and were both underpowerex compared to their predecessors at launch.

I'm holding out till atleast holiday of 17' to get the 4K tv. Those Black Friday deals should be nice. I have researched tvs now for around five or so years. Just by waiting another year will save you on average of $500-$700 for a 4K tv. So if you can hold out longer, more money in your pocket and more games on your shelf. How many games can you purchase just by using the money you saved when you purchased your 4K Tv because you waited just a little longer? A good bit I imagine.

The way I see it, the PS4 Neo will be more akin to the S. They'll be competing in the same market. When the Scorpio comes out, it will kind of be the start of a new gen, but I think too early. 3 or 4 times the power isn't really enough for me. I'm hoping that the Neo ships this holiday, and a PS5 in holiday 2018.

Consoles provide more access to the performance which is why games like Rome and The Order are possible on x1 and ps4.

PC/Xbox being a unified platform where games release on both simultaneously. They'll be able to secure PC only games since the development will be easy and they can share online. Microsoft reaps the benefits of increased software sales on Windows and games. They're looking at the bigger picture and it's going to pay off for them big time. Nobody will stop playing Xbox just to buy a PC. Normal people just want to play gears/halo and not pay $800 something for it if they can pay $299 and enjoy it on an Xbox one.

Alot of people said that 720p is worse for gaming when 1080p is industry standard. Well when one gets way above industry standard that all of a sudden becomes a bad thing for the so called gamers...

Anyway... Last year after gamescom, if u remember or not, Phil Spencer made a statement. He doesn't want these time exclusives anymore as it is bad. Instead he was after true AAA exclusives. It would be 2 yrs by the time scorpio comes out from this announcement. I feel he wanted exclusives for scorpio and windows at 4k. A developer making 4k game has lots of readily available customers on Xbox+windows than ps.neo or ps4.5

If I have to sell exclusive rights for my game then xbox + windows looks a better option.

Im just waiting a 55'' 4ktv to come down to my price range i see 40'' to 43'' 4ktv being really cheap but thats too small for me the tv i got now is 55'' so im glad Microsoft waiting til next yr for new upgraded xbox one

The Scorpio can obviously do 4k, and will be able to in certain cases do it quite well for 2014-2016 standards, but no it's not a 'true' 4k box. It'll be limited.

A true 4k box would be something that you know can run any game for the next 3-4 years at 4k, and easily hit 4k/60 in many games like FPS.

It'll be nice and powerful, about 5x as much as the Xbox One, but once again it'll be like when the PS4/XB1 came out in 2013. There will be stuff 2x-3x as powerful already on the market.

A GTX 980, which is what Spencer himself compared it to, although I think it'll be a little bit better, is not a true 4k machine. It can do 4k, and do it pretty well, my 970 can as well. But to think of that as a true 4k box, especially for late 2017-2020, it is not.

Still though, it'll be plenty of power for 1080p games, and I think many will stay doing that.

They're will always be more powerful hardware unfortunately. But, it will still do 4K and do it well. Because, it will be designed to push native 4K resolutions. They'll be able to push graphics on par with what we see on consoles or better. You're forgetting that people pushing 4K also want high end textures and effects and when have consoles ever had that?! You know what I mean? I think it will be able to push some very nice visuals at 4K -and they'll look extra clean in 4K.

Is DX12 going to get an upgrade and be DX12.x by the time scorpio arrives.

What ever this new card is... It should be customized right? I mean the specs are not fixed yet and there's still close to 6 months before they start getting approvals and move it to production if they are planning to handover dev kits.... Or make windows 10 game and port it to scorpio... I mean if phil compares 980 so the can be built and optimised using 980

Waiting if Yoshida + Cenry have any plan to do the same as they just pulled the idea of NEO from E3.

I'm extremely curious to see what kind of hardware this will have. I have a hard time believing this this will be a "true" 4k console. I just built a brand new PC in January with a 980Ti in it, and even that can't play modern games at 60fps on the higher settings.

So when they say a 4k console, what do they mean? 4k resolution but at low settings and 30fps? There's no way the Scorpio is going to cost as much as a serious gaming rig, so what is the performance going to be like?

Read that article , it explains why they didn't bring a 4K console this year , and the future of Xbox as a whole , they are basically re boarding with Xbox live being the platform where all devices talk , you don't need brand new games for Scorpio or Xbox one or s .. Each model is aimed at Diffrent users and Xbox live now stretches to a wider audience.

No one cares about about a console war now, because technology is moving so fast that what seemed new 1 year ago is outdated in 2 years.
