An exclusive look inside Microsoft’s plan to turn your Xbox into a PC

"It was a rare sunny day in Seattle and Phil Spencer seemed very pleased. itting across from me in a meeting room at Microsoft’s sprawling Redmond campus, the head of Xbox smiled as he talked, mixing serious discussion about the future of his business with jokes about how his employees dress. (He’s not a fan of cargo shorts in the office.)"

"According to Spencer, the improvement between Scorpio and the current Xbox One will be immediately noticeable. "I actually think the upgrade to Scorpio in terms of visual fidelity will feel as dramatic of a change as we’re used to seeing in new generations," he said."

This is pretty much the Xbox 2, they just won't market it as such.

the_dark_one3062d ago

Exactly, thats what i thought, in a way it is like the first models of ps3 wore game compatible with the ps2 games. the power increase is definitely a new console and not just an upgrade

Sonyslave33062d ago

So is ps Neo a new console or a upgrade I just wanna know.

Sonyslave33062d ago

So is PS Neo PS5 or is just like sony and Ms are saying a simple upgrade version of their console.

NotEvenMyFinalForm3062d ago

maybe you been living under a rock but every rumor for months now have stated that all the consoles will play exactly the same games but at different settings. Even on the Scorpio's reveal trailer they stated that both systems will play exactly the same games.

ILostMyMind3062d ago

If "visual fidelity will feel as dramatic of a change as we’re used to seeing in new generations," yes. It i'll be a PS5.

S2Killinit3062d ago

Damn, talk about stabbing fans in the back. This is essentially xbox 2, or am i wrong?

King Nezz3062d ago

How are fans being stabbed in the back? Past, present and future games will be compatible from what I heard across the consoles. Whether you are on the Xbox one or Scorpio, you won't be left behind. That's the message they are going for.

Overload3062d ago

@king nezz

That's not true. Xbox Scorpio supports VR, the Xbox One doesn't. That's getting left behind.

MatrixxGT3062d ago

Can't wait. I own ps4 and X1 and both of these consoles have been a letdown overall. Hopefully with the new consoles coming out we can finally feel like we made a forward leap instead of a casual step forward. I mean it seams these new consoles still play your old and current games it's just now they will have them at higher resolution and frame rates that everyone has been bitching about since ps4 and X1 released.

S2Killinit3060d ago (Edited 3060d ago )

@king nezz
From what i remember it seems that the xbox S will share exclusives with the original but the scorpio being really the next xbox and much stronger will "share" games with the vanilla and S models just as the xbox one "shares" games with xbox360 now. But scorpio really being the next xbox will have its own exclusives (VR exclusives confirmed by MS already). In that sense vanilla xbox and xbox one S are being left behind.

Sometimes you have to read between the lines with these guys.

So what is your point?

Whether you call it "Xbox One 2" or just the "Next Xbox One" is irrelevant. I won't buy it because of its name. I may buy it because of what it can do.

4K gaming is a pretty good selling feature! That might even make me want to go and buy a 4K TV!

NotEvenMyFinalForm3062d ago (Edited 3062d ago )

Devs won't be able to take advantage of its power beyond just eye-candy tho, so this is not Xbone 2 at all. The console will always be held back by the vanilla Xbone unless they start making exclusives for it.

Overload3062d ago (Edited 3062d ago )

It will have exclusives, VR exclusives at least.

Lennoxb633061d ago

Its not the Xbox 2. Next gen will have more powerful hardware.

You want a PC? Crazy idea! Get a PC!

Lennoxb633061d ago (Edited 3061d ago )

I keep hearing people say "Get a PC." These people forget that a majority of gamers are kids and adults who haven't the slightest clue about PC hardware.

Matter of fact, I urge gamers on N4G to do a test. Ask someone you know who games what a GTX 970 is. Their best guess will probably be a car. It can't be anybody that frequents N4G or other gaming websites on a daily basis. But a casual.

Casuals won't care about specs or understand WTF 6 Tflops is.

Call of Duty Development Process Won't Change Under Microsoft;15 Studios Still Working on Franchise

Call of Duty’s development process will stay the same under Microsoft’s ownership, with no planned changes to its structure.

RaidenBlack7h ago

Now EA's following suit as well in order to compete with this CoD of a juggernaut sort of head 2 head ...
i.e employing 4+ studios for the next Battlefield game.
DICE for multiplayer, Criterion Games for single player/MP, Motive for single player, Ripple Effect for a "new experience".

Mr Pumblechook4h ago

Respect to Phil Spencer, it's because of his direct influence that Rossi was introduced.

RaidenBlack4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

And here I am just asking for a new Soldier of Fortune or Heretic ... but guess CoD even engulfed a whole studio for just gun trinkets

MetroidFREAK217h ago

I'm so glad I got out of the CoD hell hole

Eonjay7h ago

Thats... a lot of teams. That's why it's so hard to compete with COD. It's also why PlayStation is so vital to Xbox now. That's a lot of people who need to be paid.

Obscure_Observer5h ago

Playstation is just another revenue stream out of many. They´re important of course, but I think PC, Mobile, and Cloud are even more important.

i´m also curious to see how COD will perform on Nintendo Switch 2 after all those years that ABK has been snubbing them. Thanks to Xbox they´ll finally be able to play those games again.

Eonjay4h ago

Right Switch 2 (one assumes that COD really isn't going to run on Switch) when it launches will take a few years to build up a sizable audience. One imagines that that can help offset some of the sales lost on Xbox. But as you probably already know, PlayStation has been the biggest platform for COD sales by quite a margin for quite a while. Its not 'just another revenue stream'... its THE revenue stream (as far as Call of Duty). I really wouldn't expect that to change anythime soon. Also, remember when it comes to COD we are counting PS4 and PS5.

As far as Switch goes, the only way in hell I'm gonna even try to play it there is on one of the Pro controllers. The idea of trying to use the joy cons or the handheld itself is already making my hand hurt.

FPS_D3TH6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

15 studios is A LOT. That’s honestly insane. I thought 3 or 4 was kind of crazy but I suppose it took 3 years for 4 or 5 of studios to make the last one and if they’re coming out yearly still then maybe it’s still just 5 studios per release. I’d imagine 15 studios managing one single game would be far too complicated with way too many cooks.

dveio6h ago

Could be a good opportunity maybe for EA and SIE to start a collaboration with Battlefield.
