Skyrim’s Special Edition’s Textures are Even Higher Resolution than the High Resolution Pack for PC

If you’re wondering just how much effort has gone into remastering the art assets of the newly revealed The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition for PS4, Xbox One and PC, Director Todd Howard provided a few interesting tidbits during an interview on the post-show livestream.

Haven't played Skyrim... Might see what all the fuss is about.

Pongwater3281d ago

Have you played any of the Elder Scrolls games? ( I mean the main games, not including Elder Scrolls Online ). How you feel about Skyrim may hinge on how you felt about the older titles. You may think it's the best or you may find it lacking in certain areas. Depends on what you like about the series I guess. If you've never played any of them I say go for it and see what you think.

Personally I really enjoyed Skyrim and I will buy the remaster, though I felt Dark Souls was easily a better game that year and I'd put Skyrim about 3rd on my Elder Scrolls ranking list.

Magnes3281d ago

I agree with you pongwater I loved oblivion never quite got into Skyrim, but with this upgrade I shall have another go.

KiwiViper853281d ago

Haven't played any ES, I always found first person games just didn't agree with my eyes, but with the new gen higher resolutions and framerates I've found a few quite enjoyable.

it's been like $10 for a couple years now

joab7773281d ago

You will be ruined though. Similar to games like Fallout, The Witcher and Dark Souls, it's hard to play games after them.

My only issue is lack of real difficulty, and consequence.

Master of Unlocking3281d ago

Same here. Looks like I was well inspired to hold off on buying Skyrim for the PS3, as this will have better graphics, the PS4 features, and mods!!! woohoo! The last console game that had mods like on PC was Unreal Tournament III on the PS3 back in 2008!
It's so cool that Bethesda is doing it this time!

garrettbobbyferguson3281d ago

It was a crap game back in 2011, it's a crap game now. Repetitive dungeons, quests that had ZERO impact on the world, mediocre combat, a leveling system that was garbage, enchanting that was broken, and just an ugly world which I see they've made worse with what looks to be a shit filter over everything.

ApolloTheBoss3281d ago (Edited 3281d ago )

Then you're in for a treat my friend, holy crap. I had the same thought when I played my first elder scrolls game which was Oblivion and was utterly blown away.

Doesn't really say much, the Beth HD pack didn't really change anything drastically.

ChrisW3281d ago

Yeah... Especially when compared to Workshop mods.

Vegamyster3281d ago

Yup, most hardly affected performance too.

k2d3281d ago

This. They may have been High Def, but they weren't high quality, and mods could give even higher def textures.

Femto3281d ago

Pc users who own the legendary edition, or the game and all its dlc will receive the special edition for free

Lon3wolf3281d ago

I just hope Steam put the DLC in the summer sale :D

hirobrotagonist3281d ago

Extremely happy this is coming to PC, I really hope Bethesda put some work into serious bug fixing though even on my 1080 gtx master rig with over clocked i7 I still get random crashes

traumadisaster3281d ago

The oc is causing the crashes. That vanilla game has rock solid stability.

Errorist763281d ago

Maybe don't overclock it then...in case you reall stupid enough to do that.

hirobrotagonist3281d ago

Listen dipshits, I've been playing skyrim since day 1 on 360 and PC. I've also been building and overclocking computers for more than 15 years. Not really sure I got why I got downvotes since this game is not rock solid and never has been. Bethesda makes great games, but they are always buggy and Skyrim was one of the buggiest. Skyrim was just as buggy for me before I overclocked my cpu. It's buggy because it doesn't make use of all available ram and it doesn't use multiple CPU threads - maybe do some research before making asinine comments. I was one of the biggest members of the modding scene on the original modded Xbox for Morrowind and I hand resized texture and converted over a hundred mods from the PC to the xbox. I know a little something about modding Bethesda games and computer hardware in general. The fact that Skyrim struggles on the best graphics card in the world with a CPU overclocked to 4.4 ghz is not a great thing, this statement is a fact and not an opinion. Between console and PC, I put over 400 hours into Skyrim. Go peddle your bullshit elsewhere.

hirobrotagonist3281d ago (Edited 3281d ago )

You and traumadisaster both don't know a god damn thing about computers if you think overclocking a liquid cooled CPU running at -65 Celsius would cause crashes in Skyrim; which is one of the buggiest PC games ever made.

Errorist763281d ago (Edited 3281d ago )

@Hiro

I assumed you overclocked your 1080. Seems I got you wrong. Still Skyrim might be buggy but I never had it crash on me either.

You should definitely watch your manners.

Averyashimself3281d ago

@Erroist76 Why would you dare say, "Watch your manners" when you were the one being rude in the first place.

Errorist763281d ago (Edited 3281d ago )

Averyashimself

You're right. I was rude. I was assuming he was just showing off. I apologize. It was a misunderstanding to begin with.

There are various mods that allow you to circumvent the 4 GB limit that Skyrim has. Did you use any of those?

aaron58293281d ago

I was jumping with joy when they announced this, until i took a wooden chair to the knee...

The creator of Balatro says microtransactions "makes me want to put my computer in the dishwasher."

Localthunk: "The honest reason I don't have microtransactions/season pass/ads/100 DLCs/etc in Balatro isn't just about the ethics of those practices but because when I play other games that have those things it makes me want to put my computer in the dishwasher and set it to pots & pans."
