Well...unless you buy your internet from Microsoft I'm not sure how that's their problem? I do think that services such as Netflix, Hulu, and any other online only service should also be free because I have the internet.

I'm predicting Microsoft end's Gold multiplayer paywall and turns gold into PS+ of yesteryear. Basically you are buying gold for the free games and discounts. The reason for this is they can't charge for multiplayer on PC and if they truly want to unify the platforms then the multiplayer paywall has to go. It would also generate a ton of good will especially surrounding the Scorpio..

That said I still bought a year at this price.

Console gamers still pay for online and you just proved my point.

RiPPn1799d ago

I actually pay for Gold for the free games and the One Guide since I use the Xbox One for OTA channels.. I'm not a fan of multiplayer games, much prefer single player experiences.

It's too much of a cash cow to do away with as you're thinking. Executives with expensive salaries only see dollar signs from the console people they charge.

OK, but bottom line is your still paying for gold and a big factor of why a majority of people buy Xbox Live is to play multiplayer. MS isn't going to make it free from the goodness of their heart and lose money. This is also why Sony adapted the pay for multiplayer service. You say its gotta go but you still support it by buying it anyways.

RiPPn1799d ago (Edited 1799d ago )

I didn't say Gold has to go, it just needs to evolve.. Microsoft wants PC and Xbox to exist as a unified platform and there is no way for them to charge for multiplayer on the PC.. so drop the multiplayer paywall on Xbox and make the service more about other things like free games and discounts. PS+ existed and was successful for years on this model.

If they make the service enticing to PC players as well they stand to easily maintain or even surpass their current subscribers all while gaining good will on the Xbox side of things.
