6 Titles That Could End Up Being Game Of The Year 2016

I'm making my way through Uncharted 4 as we speak, and have yet to play Ratchet and Clank. This has been a good year for gaming and, much like last year, I think competition will be tough for GOTY.

I have played all the games mentioned in the article but I feel like 2015 was a stronger year so far. Right now I feel like Uncharted 4 is the frontrunner. The other games are very good but I don't quite feel like they are GOTY material imho.
I had hope for Mirror's Edge Catalyst to be a contender but the reviews have been a littile disappointing. Luckily we have Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last Guardian, FF XV, Deus Ex and No Man's Sky to look forward to. (As long as none of them get delays)

I do think it will be tough to beat uncharted 4 (or overwatch, which will win from sites that favor that type of game.) But I do also think many sites tend to go with what's 'new.' Uncharted 4 is great, but of something unexpected pops up and comes close, I think it will win.

I can't recall a multiplayer only title ever winning goty....I haven't played Overwatch, but I loved Uncharted. Naughty Dog can do no wrong.

P.S. Any chance for No Man's Sky or The Last Guardian?

totally agree. Doom's single player is incredible. Snapmap has potential if bethesda uncorks it from console restrictions...and the multiplayer is functional enough for a bit of fun...

It likely won't win any 'real' goty awards, but I'm almost positive it'll show up on 'best surprise' lists everywhere.

I hope it's Overwatch or The Witness. It would be nice to see something that isn't part of a franchise/remake win; I'm sure Overwatch is just the beginning of a franchise, but for now it's an original IP and that should be celebrated.

Both will probably win their respective genre but not GOTY.

I think it depends on the website. To a PC focused site or a site that's into those types of games, I think overwatch will win. Especially if it gets free content updates between now and the end of the year.

I hear ya, a new ip is always exciting, but quality should always take priority. Best game should win game of the year, not the newest. Personal GOTY atm has to be UC4. Or The Witcher 3 but I was a little late to the party on that masterpiece.

Uncharted 4 and Ratchet & Clank are my only choices right now. Overwatch is fun but would definitely not call it Game of the Year

U4 for sure. R&C best jump and run, Doom best single player FPS (atm), Overwatch best MP FPS, The Witness best puzzle game. DS3 best RPG. Forza Horizon 3 has chances as best racing game I assume, Blood & Wine as best DLC. Curious what this year still has in store.

My Goty would be Dark Souls 3 but I dunno if it's still too niche to be considered GOTY so I'd go with my second choice Uncharted 4

Uncharted 4 so far but it isn't for me, Overwatch is certainly a contender even if all the SP obsessed people won't accept it. Deus Ex: MD will be good, Mafia 3 could also be very good, still got a while yet but there is probably going to be more contenders later in the year.

Uncharted 4 is the favorite, Horizon and Zelda would be huge candidates as well, but it will be released next year.

I think that games like Final Fantasy XV, No Man's Sky, Mafia 3 and Deus Ex will be great and praised by a lot of people, any of these games could be a contender.
Dark Souls 3 is a great game, but it's not the best Souls game, probably it will be a contender, but again will not win.
Persona 5 looks perfect, but reviewers like to ignore traditional jrpgs.
Ratchet & Clank is also amazing, but it's a 3D platformer, reviewers like to ignore this genre as well.
Overwatch? Probably not.
I really excited for The Last Guardian, but probably it will be difficult to fullfil all the hype for the game.

Let's be realistic here, I like Ratchet,and Doom but there's no chance they'd even get nominated.The Witness probably will be removed later. FFXV would fit in somehow given the hype. And tbh Overwatch shouldn't get nominated or any mp only game but the PC community's toxic. As for me Dark Souls 3 all the way even though I know that won't win and never win because filthy casuals. We've got a lot of other games that haven't been talked about much so the winner's unknown at this point. I hope something unexpected will win it!

With regards to games that excels in almost all aspects of game development, the powerhouse is UC4. GOTY is in the bag for UC4. This game will garner a ton of awards.

3-Xcom 2

Haven't played R&C yet, but it could easily take a top 3 spot if it's as good as people say.
Deus Ex, NMS, FF15, TLG Gears 4 and Dishonoured 2 (though I feel a delay to next year for that) if they can deliver, could easily make the list too.
