What have they done to my Metroid :(

jholden32492889d ago

Just chalk it up as filler. It might be ok (hopefully better than Triforce Heroes anyways).

They've gotta be developing a real Metroid game for NX. Right? Right? Uhhhh, oh never mind of course they're not.

Hold_It2888d ago

@Fin

This isn't real.
The next Metroid game will be on NX (hopefully) and a Prime like game at that (also hopefully).

Shinobi1002889d ago

From a fan of all games, and not just a nerdy Nintendo fanboy, this looks awesome.

BlaqMagiq12889d ago

This looks like hot garbage. It obvious Nintendo doesn't care about what the true Metroid fans want.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2889d ago (Edited 2889d ago )

Uh because it not a main Metroid game. It a spinoff.
So it must be a sin for Metroid to have one then.

You sure saying Nintendo doesn't care when
from Super Metroid - Metroid Prime it was 8 year gap.
Let alone Star Fox Command to Zero was 10.

Creating spinoff is necessary to build more audience for the main entry.

BlaqMagiq12889d ago

People for years now have been asking for a new Metroid Prime not this. Spinoffs do not help build an audience if it pushes them away. Don't believe me? Just go take a look at all the dislikes and comments the reveal trailer got. It's pointless if you risk losing that fanbase.

Fin_The_Human2888d ago

We get it its a spinoff but why not make a spinoff catered for the real Metriod fans instead of this kiddy looking POS .

Pookandpie2888d ago

@Fin_The_Human

I like how it can't be a real Metroid game unless the graphics are realistic, going by what you said. lol

Pookandpie2889d ago

Metroid fans said this with Metroid Prime, and then with Metroid Prime: Hunters, too, the latter of which this seems to be a successor to.

Hunters wasn't a bad game at all, so hopefully this isn't terrible. After the disappointing sales of Other M, Nintendo is probably thinking that they have to do something to increase the size of the Metroid fan base to make the cost of developing a new main series Metroid title worthwhile since the games have, historically, not crossed the 2 million marker since the first Prime.

Hold_It2888d ago (Edited 2887d ago )

@pook

Hunters looks like they actually put forth an effort though. This game on the other hand looks like they made a shovelware title and slapped Metroid on it hoping that it will guarantee sales by suckering long time fans with the title.

Fin_The_Human2888d ago

Bro this game looks like the used the Miis engine to make.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2888d ago

@Hold_It
Because Hunter isn't a Spin-off.

Pookandpie2888d ago

@ Hold_It

You're judging that based off the graphical fidelity. The game's mechanics look just like those of the 3D Metroid titles (grapple beam, strafe dodge, etc.), and quite frankly, if you're playing games on the 3DS you shouldn't be complaining about the visuals.

Hold_It2887d ago (Edited 2887d ago )

Try not to take the word looks so literally. I'm not just judging the game on visuals, I'm judging it on what it looks like as a game based on the trailer I saw. Which a trailer these days give you enough information about game to tell if it's going to be garbage or not. This game looks like trash, and I'm sure Nintendo knows it too. This game looks like it would have been better off being a mini game for Nintendoland, because to me, that's all it looks like gameplay and graphics wise. I am a fan of the Metroid games, but I am not a blind fanboy who is going to buy everything Metroid because the name is slapped on it, and this is what Nintendo's expected audience is.

This is just a cheap cash in on the Metroid name, and Nintendo knows that, as the first time the trailer went up it was met with overwhelming negativity to the point that Nintendo quit talking about this game for months. I guess a game of Operation Raccoon City's quality of the Metroid Series had to happen at some point.

3DS visuals also aren't bad, especially if you have a NEW 3DS. Fire Emblem Awakening doesn't look like a sub par moble game, and neither does SMT IV, KH: Dream Drop Distance, and many other titles.

Pookandpie2887d ago

@Hold

I took nothing too literally as you were still complaining about graphical fidelity in your elaboration. So....

In any event, this game looks no worse than Prime: Hunters, mechanically speaking. You move around, lock onto enemies, utilize different weapons, etc.. Gameplay mechanics-wise, I see nothing in the trailers that makes Federation Force appear to be worse than Hunters, despite the fact that they used a chibi modeling style for the characters and enemies.

And yes, a game of RE: Op Raccoon City was definitely destined to occur. Hell, the Metroid series isn't even that chock-full of amazing games. Super Metroid and the first Prime were absolutely incredible, and the first Metroid deserves praise simply for being the first... however, 2, Fusion, and the second and third Prime games weren't even that great, and Other M was an atrocious mess of bad story telling, awkward controls (who decided that using a dpad to move in a 3-dimensional space was a good idea?!), and the baby.

So, whatever, we'll find out just how atrocious, average, decent, or good this game is when it comes out.
