Do We Really Need a PlayStation 4 Neo or Xbox 1.5 Scorpio?

OnlySP: As successful as the current eighth console generation has been for Microsoft and Sony, apparently, they want a “do over,” with a PlayStation 4 Neo and Xbox 1.5 Scorpio.

DEEBO3305d ago

It better be worth the money if not piss off.

hulk_bash19873304d ago (Edited 3304d ago )

Who cares? If you already have a PS4 and are not interested in upgrading, dont buy it. Its not like they're gonna phase out the PS4 and alienate its 40+ million install base.

DragonKnight3303d ago

What possible reason would Sony have to continue manufacturing base PS4s? When a slim comes out, production on the older model phases out. If you don't think that will happen with Neo, you're naive.

hulk_bash19873303d ago

I meant in terms of content, software and support. I dont care if they phase out the older PS4 hardware for a cheaper slim alternative along with the NEO. I could care less, as long as the support for the PS4 platform is still there.

_-EDMIX-_3303d ago

Agreed.

I don't even get this "we really need" who is "we"? lol

I say yes, the community needs an option for both as PC has many options and does fine. I feel 1 extra option for consumers is fine and won't hurt anyone.

ChrisW3303d ago

Concerning the upgrade, I strongly feel that anything that isn't defined as the "next generation" won't be worth the money, especially since games won't be developed that might push Neo's and Scorpio's limits due to having to also develop for vanilla PS4 and X1 and also, presumably, having to put them on the same disk. However, it might be worth the money for those who want slightly sharper graphics, higher frame rates, and less load times than the console they currently have... but, once again I feel, it will marginally be worth the money.

Notellin3303d ago

You just described PC gaming which is thriving and only increasing its user base. I think if these incremental upgrades work similar to an iPhone upgrade then it will be successful.

ChrisW3303d ago

@Notellin,

Yeah... Yes and no... There's a huge misconception about PC gamers and having the latest and greatest hardware. Only about 1% of PC gamers have 4K monitors, high end graphics cards to attain 60+fps, and so on... The rest of us aren't that well to do, in the money department. I had my GTX 680 until it burned out earlier this year. And that's the only reason why I upgraded. Otherwise, I would have waited about 2 more years before upgrading. Which is actually the average lifespan of a console... that is, until now where consoles are also doing incremental upgrades.

DopeTech3304d ago

Well, this generation has been all about Res/FPS and all that and gamers disappointed by the PS4/XB1 specs, so I think gamers want the PS4 NEO/Scorpio without realizing it.

Pablo184743304d ago

I think you are right but for me personally I was never disappointed with my Xbox one only my ps4 disappointed me not because of its performance but because of the noise, it is like having a hairdryer sitting next to me. I first thought it was defective but after a bit of online research I found out it was normal and then it was confirmed when I visited my friend in a different country and his was exactly the same, as soon as you start online multi-player you would think your ps4 is getting ready for take off.

Sunny_D3304d ago

That doesn't confirm anything. 2 personal anecdotes doesn't mean All PS4 sound like that. I was actually surprised when my Ps4 still stayed quiet when I was playing U4 since it's a very demanding game. I haven't even cleaned the fan yet since I bought it 1 and half years ago. But, now that there is no warranty I'm going to open it up and start cleaning it.

AG66863304d ago (Edited 3304d ago )

My launch PS4 is loud and has issues like the annoying coil whining, disks ejecting. I got the C chassis and everything was gone it's very quiet. PS4 has been a big let down to me, it's riddled with issues and seems to get worse in updates. One big issue was slow downloads which got fixed then in the last update it broke it again, now I can't download anything while playing Spotify or playing a game. Before I could play Spotify while playing a game and the downloads would still be going quite fast.. Now they go about 100kb-400kb if I play or use anything. I noticed this in the beta and I knew they wouldn't fix it. I haven't been on my PS4 in nearly 2 months it just annoys me every time I use it something always isn't working properly. I've gone back to PS3 I just enjoy it a lot more.

kneon3304d ago

@AG6686

I never have slow downloads from PSN, and I didn't last gen either. I have 250-300mbps service and have my consoles wired in on 1gb Ethernet. It took about 15 minutes to download and install a 5gb update a few days ago.

JackBNimble3304d ago

@ Ag6686
Have you ever checked your download speeds on your ps4 ? You know you can do that right?
Well you should check your download speed and if it's shit, then contact your isp because your Internet problems are most likely on your end.

Your other ps4 problems are, well, ... shit happens , things break and Have a failure rate.

Notellin3303d ago

My fan on my PS4 isn't too loud but if the console isn't standing vertically it just constantly ejects disks. I've tried everything and just can't get the disk drive to stop spazzing. But I'd love to buy one of these two new systems when they arrive.

Pablo184743303d ago

you are right two personal anecdotes don't mean all ps4 sound the same that's why I researched that thing we call the internet and found out I was in a majority not a minority

WelkinCole3303d ago

You do understand that there has been graphics comparison since the start right and not just this gen or even last?.

I guess you must be young because the graphics competition between Nin and Sega was fierce.

Pablo184743304d ago

The answer to this for me has to be no. I bought the Xbox one day one then I had to spend two years trying to convince my nearest and dearest to let me buy a ps4 ( which she threatened to throw out the window if I took one the house ), I now own both consoles but it would be extremely difficult for me to justify buying another Xbox even though I must have the new Xbox Scorpio. So for my blood pressure and the sanity of my wife I really must say no. For future reference if anyone feels the need to give away a free Xbox Scorpio I can provide a loving and caring home : )

Zeref3304d ago

You have to talk to your wife to buy a console? That's pretty sad. Does she have to ask you about a shoe or whatever she wants to buy?

Xavior_Reigns3304d ago

LOL definitely like why even pursue such a relationship? Even if she is "HOT" she can go to hell if she is gonna dictate some of my choices. Also before you bruhs come at me... I got a GF... shes a gamer too, do you???

tee_bag2423303d ago (Edited 3303d ago )

To be fair you don't know his circumstances do you? Maybe he's a jobless bum and his wife is the only one working and paying a mortgage. My point is, when you get older and have kids, mortgages and other commitments you need to be fiscally responsible if you both have a budget. I wouldn't want my wife buying jewlery left right and center not giving a sh#t about the mortgage - it works both ways.

There are different degree's to this but the principle is the same.
Just because I can sell my second house and buy a porsche (which I'd love to do), doesn't mean I'll go ahead and do it without consulting my other half. It's not fair on her or my kids or our family as a whole if we're working towards a nice comfortable retirement.
Having to explain this to you tells me you're quite young.

Horseheadinthebed3303d ago (Edited 3303d ago )

You obviously don't realise not everyone can go out and spend £300 + without looking at family finances ,plus there is the social thing where someone feels they are playing second fiddle to their partners gaming habits...these things can cause arguments and break ups , obliviously you haven't hit maturity yet nor has a lot of other commentators here...

Pablo184743303d ago (Edited 3303d ago )

obviously you are not married. treasure your freedom. run free my friend and never look back.

oops! this was meant for zeref and Xavier_reigns

Pablo184743303d ago (Edited 3303d ago )

I would say you spend a lot of time whacking off. do you have hairy palms?

sorry that was meant for zeref and xavior_reigns

Pablo184743303d ago

yes depending on the price (women's shoes can be ridiculously expensive) it's called mutual respect. When you are in a relationship and both your incomes are pulled as one means we both make the financial decisions but I suppose you consider yourself too much of a man to let a woman tell you what to do, by the way how's your mum?

FreeSpeech693303d ago

Sounds like you are in a Cuckold kinda relationship when you have to ask your wife if you are allowed to buy a 350 dollar gaming console ROFL.

Pablo184743303d ago

oh oh you the man! wait can I call a 15yr old a man? you are either a kid or a man that cares nothing for his wife. good luck with that.

ShottyatLaw3303d ago (Edited 3303d ago )

Don't pay any mind to the (likely) 15 year olds replying to you; everyone's financial situation is different. It doesn't matter who earns more money in my household; every dollar coming in is "our" money, and bigger expenditures are rarely unilateral decisions.

One approach I've taken in the past is to save double for the price of the unnecessary toy/gadget/expense that I want to spend a good chunk of money on for myself to allow my wife to blow money on something she enjoys. For example, if I wanted to spend ~$500 on a game console that I obviously don't "need," I will expect my wife to spend $500 on something she wants. I have surprised her and spent a sh**-load on concert tickets for her and her friends to see a concert and, amazingly, didn't have any push back buying tickets to a game that I wanted to attend. If you want to drop a few hundred on a game system, try to save up the money to allow her to buy something she wants, too.

Benchm4rk3303d ago (Edited 3303d ago )

Yeah you can tell alot of those people are either young or haven't been in a serious relationship before. I'm the sole income earner in my household as my wife is a stay at home mum to our 4 kids. I still talk to her whenever I want to buy something that would be considered "unnecessary" and she does the same thing with me. I generally pre order consoles and games and pay them off bit by bit so we don't take a big hit from a single fortnightly pay. Relationships are 2 way. I'd be pissed if I came home to find my wife had spent $400 on something without discussing it with me first.

I also use your tactic by saving extra when wanting something to allow my wife to get something that she really wants too.

Zeref3302d ago

It was a genuine question. I wonder whos the childish one here.

KesMonkey3304d ago

Of course we don't "need" them. But I want them. Well, one of them.

Artemidorus3304d ago

Maxor3303d ago

Tempting... but I have to say I am more of an arcade deluxe cab fan. I loved the ones for Galaxy Force, Thunder Blade and After Burner.
