Sources: Smaller Xbox One Coming This Year, More Powerful Xbox One In 2017

Microsoft is preparing at least two new Xbox models for release in the next two years, sources tell Kotaku. Later this year we’ll see a cheaper, smaller Xbox One, and next year Microsoft will release a more powerful version of their premiere console.

Wow MS is going all out if this article is to be believed. Slim this year and more powerful Xbox One with Oculus Support next year. This falls in line with my previous feelings for VR. I will wait two years to see real world reactions and then possibly purchase both console and Oculus if this really happens.

Note first I want to see if VR is not a gimmick and has a great catalogue. Lets see what the next two years bring.

Rookie_Monster2892d ago

This is great news. The merger of Xbox and Windows 10 has official begun and it is going full steam ahead.

-The Xbox Slim will be a budget system for the masses

-the Scorpio is for the core fans that wants the best specs and graphics on home console and VR support.

-The PC version is for people with high -specs Windows 10 PC

With DX12, I would imagine one game code, digitally or Blu-ray will be cross compatible between all Xbox systems and windows 10 PC. Xbox essentially become a service and allow gamers to play anywhere with multiple MS devices. That is HUGE!

This is the wave of the future of gaming and MS is leading the way. Very much love this. Kudos MS

So two more Xbox one consoles in under a year? It makes sense for Microsoft to partner with the Oculus Rift since XBox/PC integration is the future for Microsoft. I'm more curious about this though "Developer sources have told us that Microsoft’s new mandate is to release future games–including the flagship Halo series–on both platforms." I'm actually excited for all of this if it's true. After reading the article all of this sounds like upgrading your PC lol. PC-like evolution is about to take over. I wouldn't mind playing Halo 6 in 4K. Rookie_Monster was right about the Xbox 2 or at least an elite version. NTM XBOX Scorpio would need a GTX 970 or equivalent to play the Oculus rift sounds expensive if you ask me unless you're a PC gamer.

Might as well just buy PC's now or keep upgrading your GPU since all console makers are only doing a 2 year lifespan. I already own a PC console makers. I buy my consoles so that they last 4-5 years at least. .. All 3 manufacturers have now killed their console early in favor of a new or faster model. Only one of those companies didn't really have a choice.

DopeTech2892d ago

GTX 970 Equivalent? The rumor says that It'll have approximately 6 TFLOPS GPU, which is a BEAST gaming console, the GTX 970 is only 3.5 Teraflops, so Xbox One 'Scorpio' will be much more powerful than a GTX 970.

ShadowKnight2892d ago (Edited 2892d ago )

So its going to be around $500 to $600 dollars for the Scorpio lol. Okay

starchild2891d ago

Yeah, I don't see how this can be at all affordable. Will the console segment really pay those kinds of prices for a console?

Rookie_Monster2892d ago

@Shadowknight,

There is an important part about the MS AND AMD GPU partnership that was revealed before the launch of the XB1. MS paid AMD in a partnership to produce custom chips for them that is worth 3 billion.
https://www.vg247.com/2013/...
"AMD provided a custom silicon solution to Microsoft for the Xbox One, a game console and entertainment device. This required the coordination of multiple functional teams within AMD, as well as regular customer meetings with leadership teams responsible for handling the challenges of complex, muti-year deals. This project is valued at $3+B"

There is no doubt the Scorpio chip is part of the deal and MS should able to get the chip sets for a pretty decent price.

ShadowKnight2892d ago (Edited 2892d ago )

Fair enough. Hope your right about that. I'm glad it will have more power but the only news I want to really hear will Microsoft announce more first party studios at E3?? That's all I really care about. I know you notice I keep talking about that.

freshslicepizza2891d ago

2017 also looks like the breakout year for amd for the computer. nvidia is doing extremely well and i know the new gtx 1080 and 1070 will fly off the shelves but i have a feeling 2017 will see amd make big headways. they already show huge improvements with windows 10 and with them working directly with microsoft they will have an advantage which they need to compete against nvidia.

i just don't know if i can hold off until 2017 to build a new pc or get the ps4 or the new xbox scorpio or the nintendo nx. not really a big fan of multiple consoles any longer.

Rookie_Monster2892d ago (Edited 2892d ago )

I think Remedy is a good candidate for being part of MS studios. They also need a western rpg studio to replace lionhead and I would love it if they acquire Obsidian. They made KOTOR II and Fallout Vegas.

ShadowKnight2892d ago

Definitely Remedy. They should have acquire them a long time ago. They got the money to do it.

Fallout 4's 'next gen' update is over 14 gigs, breaks modded saves, & doesn't change much at all

We were expecting problems with mod support, but there are a lot of other issues.

isarai10h ago

Wow what the actual hell 🤣🤣🤣

just_looken10h ago

This is why you get the GOG version on gog you can select the version of the game to download.

On pc fallout 4 fallout new vegas and skyrim are all broken on steam because they all got the same "next gen" update.

Skyrim dec 2023
https://www.pcgamer.com/sky...

Can not find new vegas but anyone that modded it knows the script extender there was also broken

Valkyrye8h ago

Not accidental, they want modders to stop modding their older games to force them to mod Shitfield.

just_looken7h ago

There doing the same on starfield with a mods store and blocking mods

There goal is like blizzard and what they did with fallout 76 you make mods they can sell and you become a slave.

On skyrim they have "trusted" mod devs now basically a badge that lets your mod on the store you get a crumb of the sale when someone buys it.

Inverno5h ago

lol to the disagrees, the last Skyrim update broke mods too. They've been trying to kill mods to monetize them in creation club for years, it's not a stretch that they purposely put out patches just to break free mods.

porkChop4h ago

The disagrees are from people who have common sense. They aren't trying to kill mods. Most mods for any game will break with a new update because they rely on files/code that have been changed. This isn't new. Even with Bethesda this would happen way before the creation club. Mod support is literally one of the things that got Bethesda to where they are, and they're one of the only devs that releases comprehensive mod tools for each of their games.

Chocoburger5h ago

Over 14 GBs and doesn't change much at all? What? Taking up that much drive space for a pathetic 'remastering' is shameful.

Par for Bethesda.

Aussiesummer4h ago

It's not a remaster, it's a next gen update.

badz1493h ago

LOL people are actually expecting massive improvements or something? From Bethesda?? the same people who released Skyrim multiple times and the all look like shit? THAT Bethesda? are people for real?

Profchaos3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

The ps5 version doesn't change a ton but from my small playtime it's enough to make me want to replay it just to have it running at 60.

A side note to this my PS4 version no longer boots after it's "update" so I guess that's what it feels like to own a Bethesda game on PC

Why Monopolies In Gaming Must Not Be Allowed

As of right now, there are no monopolies in the games industry, and for the sake of the medium as a whole, they never should either.

thorstein9h ago

Shouldn't be allowed in any field.

Inverno5h ago

And yet the biggest tech companies in America are essentially that. They buy up all the small comps only to kill them off and steal what they have, and if they can't buy em they bleed them to death.

jwillj2k44h ago

Eventually they’ll realize the value is with the employee not the company. Buying an IP means nothing if the people who contributed are let go. They’ll get it one day.

MrCrimson3h ago

tech is different because they buy threats and then kill them. Twitter bought Vine and did nothing with it. Despite people seemingly liking it. Could've had tiktok a decade before bytedance. go figure.

Zenzuu5h ago

Monopolies shouldn't be allowed regardless. Not just for gaming.

MrCrimson3h ago

They buy IPs not talent. That's why these buyouts never work and the IPs die. Right now it's too expensive to develop games - but I expect that to shift maybe as AI tools can make it easier. The best games have been indie games for awhile as big developers fuck their ips to death with "games as a service" -

Hopefully Microsoft will go back to the original story line and get away from that woke nonsense from the last Gears game Gears of Woke! But were talking about Microsoft so all the betting money is on more of the same woke nonsense.

Sciurus_vulgaris3h ago

The Locust trilogy concluded with Gears of War 3. I don’t get how Gears 4 and 5 are “woke” .
