"Back when Bethesda announced that it was releasing a new Doom game, I noted the continuation of the franchise, but brushed it off assuming it’d be similar in quality to Doom 3 — just fine, not great. The E3 2015 trailer changed my entire outlook on the new entry, though. While it definitely looked like a modern game, it felt very old school in a way that was refreshing, similar to the well-received Wolfenstein: The New Order. A few hours into the new Doom, it’s abundantly clear that the developers wanted to create an experience that was true to the original titles. Despite some of the new mechanics like jumping and Glory Kills, every second I’ve spent with the game gives me flashbacks of the Doom games I used to (and still) love."
Discover 10 timeless video games from the past that remain absolutely playable today. From Chrono Trigger to DOOM, these classics have aged like fine wine!
Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.
Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.
The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.
The video game industry is already so creative, but one thing that can be improved is its handling of space.
After watching Scavengers Reign? The answer is unequivocally yes. I really want something out of left field but I think people are too afraid to shake things up.
It's what I love about Shadowrun and Black Mirror. Love, Death, and Robots proved that there's an audience for stuff that doesn't fit the mold.
The iconic demon-slaying shooter just got a corporate makeover—perfect for pretending to work!
It looks exactly like the last one. Surprised it isn't a retread.
I proffered the Doom 3 style, just like I prefer the Quake 2 and 4 style
Doom and Resistance 3. The best FPS games along with Half-Life 2 as they have modern mechanics along side the best of the old school like no 2 weapon limit, no regen health, great wacky weapons, and a player not required to aim down the sights all the time. It's just FUN and not trying to be realistic all the time at the cost of fun.
