God Nintendo is pathetic. I want to imagine an alternate universe where a nintendo sale is like a steam sale and there's hundreds of games on sale all from throughout their history and when you buy it it's in your account forever. I'll buy their must-play stuff like Zelda but until Nintendo gives me a reason to buy confidently and actually collect their games digitally I'm not gonna load up on shit for a dying console!

@ calvin - yep, it's not worth buying anything digitally on any Nintendo gaming hardware, since they tie digital purchases to hardware, not accounts. If your console or handheld breaks, is lost, or stolen, you lose all your digital purchases. And if you just want to buy a new console or handheld, you have to jump through silly hoops just to transfer your purchases. Total ripoff, and a very anti-consumer, greedy policy on the part of Nintendo.

The hoops you have to jump through are not that hard. Stop being so dramatic. You aren't helping anyone.

My Wii was stolen from my apartment and Nintendo restored all my purchases for me with 1 call and a few questions. My 3DS was thrown across my house by my 2 year old and I had no issues transferring my purchases to my new one. Are they behind Apple's App Store, yes but it ain't nearly as bad as what you make it out to be. Just takes a phone call to customer support.

Loading up on games is dumb anyway. Keep your backlog unpurchased. If you miss out then you miss out.

superchiller1274d ago (Edited 1274d ago )

In reply to your previous comment, by defending Nintendo's harsh, anti-consumer DRM, you are just enabling them to continue with their unacceptable policies. Both Sony and MS allow people to restore their purchases to new consoles if they want, and have allowed this for many years. Why should Nintendo be allowed to continue with this anti-consumer policy?

How about actually stepping up and demanding that they change these policies to be more friendly to their own customers? Stop making excuses, and demand that they change these nasty requirements.

@blawren4 @superchiller - you would have a tough time finding a bigger Nintendo fan boy then me. I will buy just about anything they make, but I have to agree 110% that their policies towards digital are dated and do treat their customers like criminals. I also still don't understand why first party (i.e. Nintendo developed games) are region locked. I really hope this changes with the NX.

Uh this article is about amazon. Other brands are listed too. Damn you are pathetic.
