Wow, the improvement made to the emulator is truly staggering! During the entire video, the XB1 has higher Framerate and on action heavy sequnces, it constantly have a 2-4 fps advantage over the X360 version with Zero screen tearing.

This is such a huge improvement from the early days of the emulator when games like Mass Effect, Gears and Halo Reach were running worst than the X360 versions. Those games were since patched and is running close to perfect now. Well done Phil and BC emulator Team. The extra time to get a game like Black Ops to run this good is well worth it.

It is so good that it is even worth $15 just to say thanks to the engineering team that perform this voodoo magic that seems impossible just over a year ago. But MS, as expected and promised, is offering it free for those that already own the disc or digital title and have it on sale for Gold members for $10 digital now. Truly for the Players.

Can't wait for more BC titles!!!

Emulation is not Voodoo magic, Nintendo has been doing it for a while now

holysmokesbatman2027d ago

Totally different scenario given the architectures involved dude.

2pacalypsenow2027d ago (Edited 2027d ago )

Ok another example, Ps3 with a Cell can emulate Ps2 Custom Emotion Cpu games, Xbox 360 being Power PC could emulate Xbox which was a Pentium 3

pingthing2027d ago

Imagine if MS had announced PS3 BC for Xbox one...yeah far fetched scenario, I know, but you would think how is this even possible.... essentially I think the XB360 BC has achieved the same thing, it has taken an entirely alien op system and architecture and emulated it wholesale. You would expect it (apart from maybe load times) to run equal or worse than the Source material...Well done I say.

PS3 required hardware (i.e a PS2 chip) to run PS2 games. Xbox 360 emulated the original Xbox with terrible results. In fact, most emulation do not work that well. In general, you typically have to jump an entire generation to get decent performance i.e. PS2 on PS4. The fact that MS emulated Xbox 360 games on Xbox One is amazing considering how well it runs. It is almost perfect now, and in many cases perform better than on the Xbox 360 natively.

There is a lot of vodoo magic to make that work, but of course arm chair experts like to throw their nose up in the air.....

You can download PS2 games from the store that are direct ports on Ps3's that have the Ps2 hardware removed, and Xbox games worked fine for me on my 360 only difference is that they look average because you were going from 480i-480p to 1080i or 720p and they were straight ports. With the talented engineers MS has at their disposal the emulation is not voodoo. If the people that have manage to come close to a PC xbox 360 emulator can do it then the people who have all the tools, keys and money should be able to do it without too much trouble.

But I guess if a company tell you something you gotta believe it. Just like how Xbox one wouldn't be able to run without kinect.

meche3342027d ago

No. Nintendo doesn't emulate. they have revisions of hardware similar to the last gen of hardware

"Emulation is not Voodoo magic, Nintendo has been doing it for a while now"

You have no idea what you are talking about. The Wii U is using hardware to perform BC with Wii games; thus, that is why it is like almost 100% BC with Wii titles. It is running under a hypervisor and not under software emulation.

The BC process started way back to the GC era. There was no IBM tri-core when the GameCube was designed, nor the improvements over that in Wii. Its a radically different CPU from its original, but its foundation is the same for all three CPUs of the GC, Wii, and Wii U, so hardwired BC is possible. The Wii U switches from 3 cores available to a single core in Wii mode.

The BC mode for XB1 is of course, software emulation and it is way harder to get it working than what Nintendo is doing to their systems in terms of BC.

You can play N64, NES and SNES games through software emulation aka Virtual Console, And Ps4 can play Ps2 games using Software emulation no Voodoo there

Rookie_Monster2026d ago

Yea 2apocalypsenow,

Comparing software BC with old generation of consoles on current hardware to those of last gen. It is really the same thing. /S

BC is always a welcomed feature. But you will always find someone willing to find a negative spin. So ignore and move on.

Im so angry that PS4 dosent have BC like Xbox

Jon_Targaryen2027d ago

Glad Im not the only one...

donthate2027d ago

Get an Xbox One or buy a PS3. Problem solved!

Although I do appreciate the improved performance of Xbox 360 games on Xbox One.

blackout2027d ago

Na get the ps4 NEO and the next Box. Just wait what we all want will be available with in the next year from both companies.

pingthing2027d ago (Edited 2027d ago )

Didn't think I was bothered until it became a thing.....then I was so bothered that I rang my daughter to tell her I was taking my old Xbox games back, then I became so excited I rang her back and told her it was OK because I had re-bought the digital version and was already playing it, my rank was intact and the emblem I had spent 10 hours perfecting was still on my guns and all my DLC was ready to re-download....I suppose my new DL of Doom can wait another week or so...Happy Days.

riskibusiness2027d ago

What makes this all possible is the xbox vm architecture. Emulation is at the hardware level mostly. I want the white papers on this tech.
