Most beautiful game of all time.

Gotta say, the visuals in the Epilogue border on photo-realistic. They really stood out to me. Can't say enough incredible things about the Epilogue itself. Wonderful, breathtaking ending.

DaDrunkenJester3286d ago

Most beautiful game of all time, but the least fun of the UC series :/

TwoForce3286d ago

Really, dude ? The game is much more subtle which i love.

Trez12343286d ago

Whatever dude...best uncharted for me.
If you go back and play the othrr uncharted games they'll feel lightweight in pretty much everything.

The way the story is told , the mechanics, the set pieces are WAY more interactive and trust me, none of those uncharted pack this much punch.

Train set piece from 2 was fantastic and the plan from 3 was pretty cool too but boy, Madagascar is something else all together. How did they pull it off ?

BlakHavoc3285d ago

The only thing this UC lacked that the others had imo was that bombastic memorable set piece. There was still plenty fun set pieces but there wasn't anything comparable to the plane sequence, or train sequence. Still, this UC is the best, the story is amazing and the graphics had me totally immersed. What I enjoyed most was uncovering what happened with Avery and his treasure, totally eery lol.

A full review will be forthcoming from me and your view may make sense in the context of the first quarter of the game which is heavily backstory / Last of Us / UC3 type brawling (Nate even says 'Really?' when you have to do 2 brawl scenes in quick succession) but after that it's clear to me that a lesson of the game is 'The thrill is in being here, and, to some extent, being YOU, husband of Elena, brother of Sam, friend of Sully. While you're waiting for another setpiece (many of which are 'mini' ones beautifully rendered and packing a concise punch because puzzle elements incorporate their own setpieces) you'd best enjoy the beautiful view, the plethora of different routes, the chit chat and the pleasures of firing a pretend gun in an attic, getting 'gravel up your ass', sliding in the best mud graphically designed, swinging between one gorgeously ruined tower and another whilst an enemy in the distance will only fire if neither he nor his friends have seen you yet, driving a 4x4 or walking as and when you choose in some chapters, splashing underwater to see the most beautiful coral ever drawn. For the first time, some players will feel and see different things in an Uncharted game than a majority might necessarily see. And they do this mostly without a 'Macguffin' of over the top moustache twiddling villain. The game feels natural and a pleasure to be in because you can make it a hardcore shooter if you want (but don't expect shooting all the time) or you can tone the difficulty down and be something like Elena, cataloguing beautiful photos that, chances are , you could be the only person to have taken that exact shot. The game rules and its puzzles are an unexpected joy as they feel natural to the flow. The character animation and humourous asides ( like Sam accurately realising that the main door to a building always seems locked / blocked) are as exquisite as the ruined Italianate mansions and towns that they explore. Subtle and action packed in small (deliberately mimicking the childhood relationship with Sam) and larger ways. The largeness is often a true one from the environment , in scale and detail. The abandoned town, covered in creepers, and the river level, are stunning works of art in graphic design / technically. A charm of Uncharted (although one not always felt early on) is that one game isn't just like the last game. UC4 pays respect to ideas from the first 3 games but I find particular enjoyment in seeing it as coming full circle because you're controlling a watercraft like in UC1, later environments are often like the theme of UC1. The seeds of our first encounter with Drake, jungle Drake basically, are allowed to take full bloom. Speaking of which, lighting is beautiful, highlighting clothing / environment textures, and not just in a few carefully chosen places.

I keep posting them in the N4G community on PS4. Saw Septics pics as well and a few other from you guys. I challenge you guys to get better pics than me.

The pics are coming out so good I am thinking about getting them developed.

rainslacker3285d ago (Edited 3285d ago )

Wow, missed that one on my play through. Imagine the time it took to create that whale and animate it, just for a second that many people would miss.

tmisellati3285d ago

lol
i got a disagree for unkown reason !!!

Deadpooled3285d ago

Don't worry about it, always some hipster who sees loads of agree votes and wants to be the first one to disagree vote.

Btw I didn't see that whale when I was on that level, great spot.

It is really a beautiful game. Those moments where you come out I to a new area and the lighting hits everything perfectly is amazing. Great visual benchmark.

Movefasta19933286d ago

I don't see anything coming close to it in visuals this year, unless bf1 really looks like it did in the trailer.

TwoForce3286d ago

Yeah sure, but BF1 graphics going to downgrade on console. 900p60fps on PS4 and 720p60fps on Xbox One. I'm not trolling here. This is what Dice doing the most.

Movefasta19933286d ago

BAttlefront looks amazing on ps4,if bf1 improves on that then it's possible.

vickers5003286d ago

Ratchet and Clank looks better to me personally. Uncharted is less colorful than its previous entries as well, Madagascar is nice though. A bit too much climbing, and sliding where there should be more shooting. I don't see myself going for the plat like I did with uncharted 2.

pyroxxx3286d ago (Edited 3286d ago )

No,.. Ratchet looks great, but there are problems with some aliasing,.. Uncharted has non of that Basically has perfect image quality,.. Seam some custom Temporal AA or something,.. but image quality is on another level in Uncharted,.. (playing games about a meter away from 60 inch LED).-- Also Lighting engine is a generation better,.. Looking at ratchet as a whole,.. Yes it is really pretty, but sometimes still makes me wonder if PS3 could run it at much lower resolution.,.. since those PS3 games look fantastic still.

vickers5003286d ago

Agree to disagree. I play on a 43 inch 4k tv (i know neither are 4k), pretty close to it, and that was actually a week ago, so it's still fresh in my mind, and I still think ratchet looks better. Uncharted i notice this weird effect, i don't know what to call it, on drake, it's like this grid effect (I've noticed it in other games too, not sure what it is, happens in hair or heads a lot though).

Uncharted also kinda has similar graphics to the last of us, dreary and grey up close, not very vivid.

Trez12343286d ago

Uncharted 4 is not colourful? Did we play the same game?

R&C is a great looking game and maybe you prefer the art style. Visually uncharted 4 is a big leap for consoles, it really is the first thing that hit you.

vickers5003285d ago

I'll admit, I have yet to beat it, but so far, the only colorful part of the game so far has been Madagascar. Not saying UC4 doesn't look good, it does, but the only parts that have remotely "wow'd" me so far have been the opening boat/storm scene and the visuals of madagascar.

Movefasta19933285d ago

Ratchet is definitely up there.

ravinash3285d ago

These argument just come down to art direction. Even the preview screens for UC4 were more colourful because of the filters they used.
They have just decided to more for a realistic colour, assuming to go with the more mature tone of the game compared to previous UC games.

One-Shot3285d ago

More colors doesn't equal better graphics. The amount of detail and attention given to everything is unrivaled.

Deadpooled3285d ago (Edited 3285d ago )

Madagascar looked incredible, the whole game is a technical marvel. Sometimes I have to stop and activate photo mode to see how stunning this game is. Also the islands look fantastic and the foliage looks real.

I do agree with you slightly at times there is a bit more adventuring personally than I would have liked in terms of pacing (compared to what I experienced in 2 and 3). In Scotland it kinda felt like one or two more sections than there should have been (mainly in the cave inside the cathedral) but that part ends great and enhances the story brilliantly. Madagascar one or two minutes extra driving sections to get near the volcano etc. And some chapters could have been separated in two (e.g. Chapter 11, split the *slight spoiler* church bells part and the E3 part).

Currently I am on chapter 14 out of 22 i think, Uncharted 2 had 26 chapters and 3 had 22 chapters but was about an hour or two shorter in gameplay length. With UC4 being a longer game (I am on 12 hours atm, 2 took me 18 hours and 3 16 hours) than 3 I think splitting some chapters for a total of about 26 would have helped remove the slight adventuring/pacing problem.
