Somebody, please i beg you, pick up my jaw.

@Genuine-User

True its all in-game but ND definitely does some trick to allocate resources for character models and environments during certain segments. I don't know how they do it but its a great developer technique.

Apparently you can play with the filters turned on.

For those that didn't believe cutscenes model = in game model:

Looks nice but most of them captured from photomode.

DigitalRaptor3315d ago

@ DieDie

I hate to break it to you, but these photomode captures are from freeze-framed gameplay.

TheVigilanteCode3315d ago

Holy fucking shit, these pics. O_O

RIP The Order 1886, you had a good run.

Abriael3315d ago (Edited 3315d ago )

This does look amazing and is definitely one of the best looking games so far, but based on the screenshots and videos I've seen it doesn't necessarily look better than something like Rise of the Tomb Raider maxed out on PC. I'll have to see them both in person, though, to know for sure.

Edit: I think some people really don't realize how good Rise of the Tomb Raider looks maxed out on PC, including VXAO ambient occlusion and good anti-aliasing (SMAA and downsampling). It honestly looks incredible. Just to refresh our memories: http://www.thegamescabin.co...

@starchild

Are you comparing a console title to one maxed out on PC? That alone should tell you more than you need to know really if it's something that isn't readily obvious & apparent.

Either way the initial comment was speaking on the entire scope of what UC4 is offering. Screen shots & still images can't convey the nuances in the animation & physics on offer here for UC4. That's the entire point really, it's the entire package, and aesthetically, Tomb Raider maxed out w/ mods on PC 5 years from now still won't have the beauty on offer here.

You can show off all of the occlusion & anti aliasing you want, but at the end of the day, you are still looking at last gen animation, CD obviously kept large aspects of their engine unchanged in terms of actual motion. Lara doesn't look even close to as natural in motion as Drake does, & none of the fire or mud or water in her game matches what we've seen in UC4.

@jb227

I wasn't the one who brought up the PC. I was just giving my opinion in response.

Yes, it does say a lot about Naughty Dog that their games get compared to high end PC games. They are amazingly talented and hardworking folks.

I have zero doubt that Uncharted 4 will look incredible. I'm also completely open to the idea it may end up being the most aesthetically pleasing game so far. I know full well that a lot of what makes a game look good is the skill, budget and effort put into it.

That said, I do think you are selling Rise of the Tomb Raider short. I have no doubt that if you could come over to my house and see it running on my PC you would be very impressed with it. The animation is quite good actually. And although Uncharted 4 does probably have somewhat better animation I think you are kind of over-exaggerating the difference. Either way, character animation is just one element among many that contribute to aesthetically pleasing games.

But I don't really want to keep discussing this. This should be an article for people to express their excitement for Uncharted 4. I myself am extremely excited for the game. I would rather actually play the game first before forming any solid opinions about the graphical fidelity.

Realms3314d ago

@ricosuave

If that is what ND can do with limited hardware who cares if it's not 4K the point is they maximize and optimize as much as possible and deliver awesome looking games. Haters going to hate it is what it is no need to mention 4K on PC.

Forn3314d ago

@starchild

I will say that at times Rise of the Tomb Raider looks good maxed out on PC. Yes, I have the game. And yes, I can play it maxed out. However, I have NEVER seen anything that looks as impressive as U4, ever. AA and 4k resolution bumps will simply improve the sharpness clarity. You can have a damn sharp picture of a square in 4k with good AA, but at the end of the day it's still just a picture of a square. Naughty Dog is taking gaming technology to the next level imo with their technology implementation and art direction.

Yeah. This is what "stay at home devs" can do with a 5 year old game on PC.

PC MUSTARD RICE

Also what about The Order and Ryse?

Lamboomington3314d ago (Edited 3314d ago )

First, let me say I've played Uncharted 2 and a lot of TLOU. Some of the best games ever made imo, and they are absolutely technical masterpieces as well.

but
"Best graphics I've ever seen by far on any console or PC, PERIOD"

I mean... how ? Hate to break it to you, the majority of those screenshots don't look THAT special or anything. Apart from some of the closeup character shots. Many games on PC can certainly look better in different aspects, eg landscape, vegetation.

I get that screenshots don't do the game justice. It's probably (no, it definitely is) much more impressive in motion, and I know that it will be another technical masterpiece, surpassing all PC games in many ways.

but there's nothing THAT good about the graphics in most of those screenshots...
