The Witcher 3 Devs Are Being Accused Of Sexism: Here’s Why It Doesn’t Hold Up

The Chinese Room, the makers of Everybody Goes to the Rapture, are accusing CD Projekt Red of sexism over an image.

Even if it is sexist, so what? It's cyberpunk. A very gritty dark futuristic setting in which these negative types of things are present. I expect to see these things.

opinionated3343d ago

Trying to be relevant by trashing another developer instead of making good games. I didn't buy any of their games anyways because they suck but if I did, this is when I'd stop.

BiggerBoss3343d ago (Edited 3343d ago )

I don't consider them sexist, they just make their games WAY over-sexualized. When every single female character wants to hop on Geralts dick, it brings me out of it. It's unnecessary. I don't mind nudity in my games (Love GOW) but they take it a bit too far.

Luckily their games are incredible, so I can mostly ignore the childish obsession with sex in them.

Goldby3343d ago

That wasn't CD Projekts decision. that is how Geralt is in the Books. and honestly, if anyone has issues with how CDPR visualized the amazing stories of Geralt. they are too young and too immature to play these games. they are Rated M after all

BiggerBoss3343d ago

If anything the ridiculous amount of nudity is catering to the immature crowd.

"Omg there's bewbs in this game"

The story could have been told just as effectively without all the pixel nudity that you love so much.

rainslacker3342d ago (Edited 3342d ago )

Mature people generally don't get all worked up over nudity in their media. If it's something they find gratuitous, offensive, or unneeded, then the mature people tend to just stop consuming that media.

But I suppose shows like Game of Thrones, The Sapronos, and any number of foreign "art" films which constantly win awards are only for the immature.

Why is it that people that don't like this stuff think that everyone who likes it or doesn't care about it behave like adolescent boys who just found their fathers porn collection? Do these people really believe that the average adult is actively seeking out this material for it's sexulized content, or spending copious amounts of time oggling the material in question?

Truth is, it's just there. We take it for what it is. Sometimes it's overdone, sometimes it isn't. When it's overdone, we tend to roll our eyes, and not think highly of the content. When it's done within context, even if unneeded, we tend to just let it be, because we can behave like adults, and not like children who think of things in black and white terms.

Chaosdreams3343d ago

Uh, sex is part of the adult life. It goes alongside violence, politics, and so forth. M rated games essentially use whatever it is that they deem necessary to tell the story they have, in the way they want. If the experience involves characters being attracted to Geralt, so be it. He's on an adventure, going through multiple towns. You'd be surprised how many people one can be attracted to and by, in real life. So I don't see it being farfetched that there are multiple "lust" or "love" interests in the game. I mean, he's killing TONS of people but that's okay, yet if there's boobs, ITS BAD?

It's not that sexual content in video games is childish. What's childish is how offended some people are by said content. CDPR creates a game they assume adults can handle. If you can't handle a part of the content, well that's unfortunate but it doesn't mean that they are over sexualizing their games, it simply means that where you are in terms of comfortability with "sex" is different from where they are.

thelifatree3342d ago

IMO what's sexist is the fact that it shows only boobs, and female parts, and sex scenes are presented for the male gaze. IE camera shots are done to accentuate the females and not Geralt.

There should be male nudity in the game. This game ofcourse is not the only media guilty of this.

Not that I'm bothered particularly bothered by it, it's one of my favorite games. But it is Sexist.

Omnisonne3342d ago (Edited 3342d ago )

@thelifatree

Maybe if their audience consists of 90% female players they would have. But it's mostly guys, so yeah they focus more on the female body. Also no private parts have been shown, as in the crotch, just chest. Showing Geralt's noodle would've been a bit too much, same as for the female parts

Grap3343d ago (Edited 3343d ago )

It's the small things that count in the lore.

TheCommentator3343d ago

So are you saying that Geralt is... below average? ;P

rainslacker3342d ago (Edited 3342d ago )

@TheCommentator

Why else would he have such a big sword.

If I were Geralt though, I'd probably try to get those women to get naked and have sex with me too...because I'm a normal guy who likes sex and attractive naked women. I'll worry about my stature 5 minutes later when all is said and done. Before anyone criticizes, keep in mind, 5 minutes is 10 times as long as we've ever seen Geralt have sex...so there.

Cloud and Sephiroth were obviously overcompensating for the undisclosed side effects of being exposed to Jenova cells as well. I do think cloud was a little over concerned about it though given how he was oblivious he was to Tifa's advancements.

Liqu1d3343d ago

Adults aren't bothered by nudity or sexual content in games, only children make a big deal out of it.

Pastorfuzz3343d ago

Doesn't bother me one bit. The more, the better. Good games IMO

annoyedgamer3343d ago

I seriously hope this marks a turning point in this SJW censorship and these types of "complaints" begin to fall flat.

GameBoyColor3342d ago

It would be funny if these crap developers screwed up sjw agendas by trying to stay relevant.

Cyberpunk 2077's 2.3 Update Opens a Pandora's Box the Game Can't Close

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a new update after developers previously stated it no longer would, bringing the possibility of more still to come.

I'm hoping the update fixes their poor FSR 3 implementation, and add FSR 4. FSR 2 looks better than FSR 3 in CP2077 by a wide margin. On my 7900XT I just use XESS if I want to add RT at custom 3K resolutions. Already beat the main game, but half way through Phantom Liberty expansion. I would like to get back to it later on this month.

anast9d ago

I have more hours in this game than any other. I would happily put more into it.

MastaMold9d ago

I second this and a PS5 PRO patch too please.

RhinoGamer889d ago

I finished it and had a blast, wish there was a new game + option.

Demon-kun5d ago

I wanna be able to dual wield it would add a decent bit I feel hell if they wanted they could even let us dual wield like knives and swords as well or something just sounds like fun to me

Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2: a cutting-edge game translates well to Nintendo's console hybrid

Few games among the Nintendo Switch 2 launch line-up can match Cyberpunk 2077 in putting the system through its paces. It's a staple of our PC benchmarking suite for good reason: the open world design is a solid stressor for any CPU, while its effects-heavy battles challenge GPU resources as well. This Switch 2 release has clearly been a big undertaking for developer CD Projekt Red too, who produced the port in-house with unique optimisations for Switch 2's ARM-based architecture. It's also remarkably the Ultimate Edition of the game, with both the core adventure and the more taxing Phantom Liberty expansion bundled in - an extra portion that proved too demanding to justify a last-gen console release, and was instead restricted to PS5 and Series X/S, and yet here it is running on Switch 2.

To cut to the chase, Switch 2 offers a truly viable way to enjoy Cyberpunk, either in a portable format or docked under a TV. However, CDPR has shot for the stars in its ambition to include Phantom Liberty as well, and it's here that Switch 2 hits some technical limits - with frame-rates struggling as we explore its newer Dog Town region. Still, that aside, there's a lot to admire in the game's engineering for Nintendo's new console overall, and how competitive it is in comparison with other consoles.

I am happy for CDPR. Their hard work paid off because the Switch 2 version are always in the top 5 Switch 2 launch game sales.

jznrpg10d ago

Not much launched with it besides ports so it should be expected I guess.

OMNlPOTENT10d ago

I mean.. what did the PS5 launch with? One exclusive in Demon's Souls?

repsahj9d ago

@Omnipotent
Not just PS5, Series X has zero launch games. XD

DivineHand12510d ago (Edited 10d ago )

This may be one of the weakest launch lineups Nintendo has ever had, with Mario Kart being the only first party game, but Cyberpunk 2077 will definitely give you tremendous value for your money.

One tip I can give people who have never played the game is to first read books from the cyberpunk subgenre. This will allow you to appreciate the story much better. If you find yourself asking which life path is the best to take at the start of the game, in this case it is Corpo, Streetkid, and Nomad. You likely don't know enough about the genre, and certain things will fly right over your head. While it is not mandatory, the game will be 10 times better if you read or listen to some books first.

Some books I have enjoyed in that genre are:
Cyber Dreams by Plum Parrot,
Stray Cat Strut by RavensDagger
Tower of Somnus by Cale Plamann
Mist Runner by Nicholas Searcy

If you can only read or listen to 1 book, then I recommend Cyber Dreams by Plum Parrot. It is the closest thing to Cyberpunk 2077.

anast10d ago

Or play the TTRPG which is was based on.

Profchaos10d ago

I'd say its stronger than the switch as Mario kart has a broader appeal than zelda.

It was also a better launch line-up than the gamecube and possibly wii u

DivineHand12510d ago

@Profchaos the WiiU likely had the worst of the bunch which is partly why the system failed.

The gamecube had smash bros melee that launched 2 months after the initial release and that is one of the best games to release on that console. I assume every gamecube owner would be happy with that game.

The switch had Breath of the Wild which is still considered one of the best games of all time. I remember playing through that game and unlocked every equipment, upgraded every equipment to the max, found all the dragons, defeated all the Lynels and completed all the shrines in that game before defeating Ganon at the end. It was a good time from start to finish and made up for the lack of other launch games.

I just think that if they had us waiting that long for the switch 2, they should have more than just 1 or 2 first party games ready within the launch window. If we had at least gotten a trailer for a new 3D mario I would be extremely happy. With the current switch 2 lineup, there is no draw to go out and get it immediately like a new console launch should make you feel. Right now the main appeal is to provide a quality of life update to play switch 1 games.

OMNlPOTENT10d ago

There is also a book directly related to the universe of Cyberpunk 2077, it's called "No Coincidence". I thought it was a pretty good read.

Kornholic9d ago

"One tip I can give people who have never played the game is to first read books from the cyberpunk subgenre."

If somebody gave me this advice before I started my first Cyberpunk 2077 playthrough, I wouldn't have even bought the game in the first place.

DivineHand1259d ago

True because I wouldn't have played it either. It's just that I read those books after playing the game and thinking back, a lot of the motivations of each character started making more sense.

I just wanted to through that tip out there to recommend someone try to understand the cyberpunk genre more before playing. They will get more out of the game.

badz14910d ago

40 vs 60 fps is not something that I would even consider calling "competitive"

1nsomniac10d ago

Then you don’t know enough about the subject you’re trying to talk about..

badz14910d ago

hahaha...what? are you serious right now? the Switch 2 is not a PC where you can just change the graphical settings to get to 60fps...Unless CDPR released a patch to make it run at 60fps, that is.

As of right now, it's stuck at 40fps at best and that too with DLSS from quite a low base res already. so yeah...it's not competitive.

Profchaos10d ago

100% 40 isn't a arbitrary choice its a strategic choice because it opens up access to supporting technology on the console

Good-Smurf10d ago

DF are Nintendo's occasional bootlickers after that blatant Zelda games ad scandal.
Games like CP2077 are meant to be played on big console or powerful PC on a big screen.
Got to love how they're simp for full price purchase of 5-year-old game and still getting the worst version to play on.

1nsomniac10d ago

Wow you guys don’t let up for a second trying to blame DF for anything you can pick out the sky at any given moment. It’s embarrassing dude.

It’s always DF are bootlickers for Nintendo today, Microsoft yesterday, Sony last week. Make your mind up people… pick a side and stick to it. Sounds so stupid when you’re trying to make a point that some company is biased but that no one can make their mind up who the company is biased towards any given day of the week.

stoney10110d ago

Yep, the amount of hate they get is ridiculous. The funny thing is if you actually look at the comments on their early switch 2 videos people are slating them for not giving it enough praise and constantly comparing it to ps4.

ZycoFox10d ago

They had a "Sponsored by Nintendo" video not long ago, it literally says so at the start.

I trust them for showing frame rate analysis and they're decent for that, but their overall review for Nintendo is overrated, Mario Kart is the same game it has always been.

Really the only one that got close to topping DKR was MKDS.. So it's no wonder it's often ranked as the highest rated Mario Kart.

repsahj9d ago

It's obvious that you're not following DF. In the weeks leading up to the Switch 2's release, didn't you know that DF had so many articles downplaying the Switch 2 because they believed it was far from being more powerful than the PS4?
