Whether You Like It or Not, 2017 Will Be the Start of a New Console Generation

TCC: It feels as if both Microsoft and Sony hold regular secret meetings and decide where the console space is to go next.

Sure seems that way given that just about everyone and their mother has written off the current gen before it began :/

Right? But they'll be kicking and screaming when they gotta wait til '19 or '20 for new hardware. Lol, what strange fools. I'd rather pay for a new console every 6 or 7 years, as opposed to every 4 or 5. I don't understand the new generation.

vikingland13353d ago

Before the PS3 & XB360 era most console generations lasted 5 yrs before the next one. But they would leak info about them around a yearr or so before their release.
This is kind of like that. I was surprised by how long the PS3 & XB360 gen lasted.

Except the 60 million or so that brought into the current generation.

Possibly we've entered a time where the Console manufacturers are now making console generations obsolete. Instead we'll get machines of varying power that all play the same games and you won't necessarily NEED to upgrade each time a new version comes out. Don't know about vr being the reason. MS is also rumoured to have a new xbox model coming but they don't have a VR solution so there must be other reasons for these guys to want to go down this route. It's interesting to say the least. I was against this in the beginning but the more I looked into it, the it made sense. As long as the new models hold no advantage over the base models other than running games better and all games run on the base model as if the new one didn't exist then it shouldn't be a problem.

Sounds about right to me, but you're forgetting about one thing...

They partnered with Oculus Rift. If OR needs a GTX 970 in order to operate, and MS has a new console with 4Tf in the workslike Sony does, it's pretty easy to see why they may want to have a new VR version of the Xbox hit the market. We also don't know how well the cloud powered Irides does with improving the VR processing of the XB1 yet, but it was designed to enhance graphics for VR and reduce internet lag by 90% so VR may still run on the XB1 with OR and Irides as well.

Hadn't forgotten about it, just right now it's only available function on x1 is playing in a virtual room, which is cool but I don't think it's something that would require a stronger gpu. Not sure that these possible upgraded consoles would be up there with a 970 though. You could be on to something with using cloud for processing vr games though. Interesting thought but the only downside to that would be needing to be connected to the Web for VR. I'm looking forward to seeing g what both these guys have. I wouldn't really be interested in buying an upgraded xbox because I don't use mine enough to justify that but I am interested in any technical standpoints their console could have with azure and the likes cuz I'm interested in those things.

No big deal. They want to up a few specs for VR. Solidify the frame rates. Has to be done really. I bet you 'Neo' is packaged with PSVR. Now how will those pre-'neo' consoles hold up with ambitious VR projects ?

"With all three console manufacturers planning new console launches"
There's only proof of two of them are launching new consoles and one of them won't even be a full new console since it won't have exclusive games whatsoever. As for Xbox absolutely nothing points towards a new console release.

I feel as though xbox has to make a move in the hardware department though. With the NX and playstations vr, and POSSIBLY 4.5 also, ms needs to attract attention to themselves somehow.

Pullmywaffle3353d ago

Just picked up a 980ti and 144hz 2K monitor, i'm set for TRUE next gen gaming long before the consoles will achieve it. I'm happy not buying a replacement PS4 or X1, and i'm definitely not buying whatever nintendo is selling. Burned me with the wii u, never again.

Ruffy and the Riverside Review | NoobFeed

Asura from NoobFeed writes- When it comes to Ruffy and the Riverside, Zockrates Laboratories has successfully developed something truly remarkable. There is no need for it to be flawless, but it is not perfect. Something that it provides is joy, joy that is unrestrained and infectious, and in a genre that tends to play it safe, it is something that should be celebrated. A texture-swapping adventure that rewrites the 3D platformer rulebook.

That controller looks like a cheap knockoff... it should have been a proper DS5 design.

...the VR aspect in 7 IS the redeeming quality.

Abriael13h ago(Edited 13h ago)

what a dumb take.

Ace Combat 7 is one of the best games of the past generation. It doesn't need VR gimmicks to "redeem" it.

TheColbertinator5h ago

I have enjoyed nearly every single Ace Combat to death (except that helicopter shooting one) and have never needed VR once to enjoy it greatly

Look, I’m a simple man. I see Ace Combat and say, “Yes!”

Abnor_Mal14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Can we get a new Ace Combat, with full vr and not just three or four levels, for PS5 and PSVR2
Also if we could get a remake of my all time favorite, Ace Combat5: The Unsung War, again with full vr for every mission with DualSense and flight stick haptics.
