10 Games you must experience before you die

Mrs Nesbitt from GamersFTW writes: "There are only so many games one can play in one's lifetime. Some titles redefined a genre, some paved the way for future games, and some were so awful that they are an experience."

Some great games on this list. It's nice to see The Last of Us there too. That's definitely a modern classic. Probably one of the few games I actually enjoyed playing. It even had a solid multiplayer.

TFJWM3344d ago

A good list. I would have went a little different but at least with this list I have their permission to die.

1noobgamer3344d ago

Where is Crash Bandicoot? Where is Donkey Kong... love the list but it could go on for agess!!! :)

MrsNesbitt3344d ago

Yes the lists can be never ending! I wish I could have gone on :D

KesMonkey3344d ago

By no stretch of the imagination is Crash Bandicoot a game "you must experience before you die". It's simply a good game in a sea of thousands of good games.

WheatBread3343d ago

That goes for most of the games on the list.

nowitzki20043343d ago

Name 1 game that you HAVE to experience before you die.

kraenk123343d ago (Edited 3343d ago )

@Novitzki

Definitely HL2, Red Dead Redemption and TLOU.

Utalkin2me3343d ago

I also think the list should be made of up of games that truly changed the landscape of gaming and not just being a great game.

Its funny too, that you can tell how old someone is by the list they give.

kraenk123343d ago (Edited 3343d ago )

It's definitely missing RDR, Monkey Island 1&2 and Day Of The Tentacle. But the list can go on indefinitely.

gepugg3344d ago

Kingdom Hearts and Psychonauts would be the top ones on mine.

Kalebninja3344d ago

Going into Kingdom Hearts blind is a real treat.

Dipper3344d ago

Kingdom Hearts definitely.

WiseCrack103344d ago

Half Life 2 is one of the most overrated and boring turds I've ever played. Playing that game felt like my soul was being sucked out.

Kurt Russell3344d ago

Not enjoying it is fine, I think it was rated fairly personally. At the time HL signified a huge leap in gaming for me.

Two-Face3344d ago

Funny, because I feel the same about Ocarina of Time. I kind of agree with you on HF2 also. It has a very slow and boring beginning. I prefer the original Half-Life over it.

A Link to the Past over Ocarina of Time anyday everyday. It has aged much better.

KurtRussell3344d ago

That "very slow and boring beginning" is what makes it special (just like in Half Life 1).
Maybe you have ADD?

KurtRussell3344d ago

The problem lies with you, not the game.

kneon3344d ago

I don't know about HL2, I never got to it because I was so bored on HL1 that I never finished it. I got the complete half life series off steam for peanuts but can't be bothered to continue.

Next_gen_20153343d ago

Steam accept peanuts? cool

You fail to factor in the time when it was released. You must be very young.

It's campaign is still better than most comparable FPS games. Not even talking about the fact it's 3 times longer than today's COD games. Did you even finish it?! Plus the episodes?!

Also you should play it with the newest mods.

Clown_Syndr0me3343d ago

I agree. First time I ever played it was The Orange Box and it bored me senseless.

S2Killinit3344d ago

Out of that list ive only played: Metal Gear, The Last of Us, Zelda: Ocarina of time which i think they should make a remake of. Wouldnt that be awesome?

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

djl348534d ago

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Levii_9235d ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil35d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

__y2jb34d ago (Edited 34d ago )

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

As expected. Unless it's going to Xbox or Switch 2, we can stop hearing about these older games now? We can move on to just news about new games?

darthv7264d ago

....until the PS6 remake followed by the PS7 reboot

Christopher64d ago

Man, first year of PS6 is going to be 90% remasters. I'm going to hate it and likely hold off until new games actually get released that I can't play on my PS5.

Cacabunga64d ago

Yes I’m waiting for complete remaster…. On ps5

OtterX64d ago

...20 years later, "you haven't heard the last of us yet!" *releases The Last of Us Retro Collection*

cloganart64d ago

@Christopher

Oof, yeah. I don't think I'm picking up the PS6 until "Pro" comes out 😂

Cacabunga64d ago

I haven’t played Tlou1 since PS3 and i have the greatest memory of it

Notellin64d ago

I'm already dreading all the cross generation games and remasters we'll see with the next round of consoles.

LonDonE64d ago

lmao this is getting ridiculous but thing is if people keep buying them.. then why would they stop making them?
Peeps STOP BUYING this game.. that actually hurts me to say this as the last of us is high up on my greatest games of all times.. its one of the few games i played through start to finish 3/4 times back to back as i loved it so much. But sony need to stop, give us a Resistance 3 remaster, i would love and buy that.. such an underated series as was killzone.
Or give us infamous.. so many great series and titles i would gladly buy but they just want to keep giving us last of us.

I am done buying that game.. i would only buy part 2 remaster if they remade it and kept joel alive, or i am not interested. Hate last of us 2s story killing off joel.. the actual game is stunning and incredible, they improved so much in the gameplay department but i hate the story with a passion.

We can stop hearing about it when they stop re-releasing them I guess.

I reckon the ps6 version will be 8k 240 and I'll still not care.

I miss new games from nd

Inverno64d ago

And HBO just announced season 3 even tho LoU2 couldn't possibly be so long that it wouldn't be able to fit in 1 season. They're just milking it at this point.

darthv7264d ago

speaking of the HBO series... I felt they should have made part 1 across two seasons, then address part 2 in seasons 3 and 4. so now i have a feeling they rushed through part 1 in season 1 to make season 2 a cliff hanger with Joel's impending demise being the starting point to Season 3.

-Foxtrot64d ago

I love how they decided to rush, chop and change things for Season 1 to get through the game yet for TLOU Part II it’s like “we’re going to do multiple seasons and take our time”

Inverno64d ago

Okay after seeing that there's only 7 episodes I take it back. Though I think it's incredibly stupid not to have just made the season longer. Another season just to finish what could've just been a 13 episode season seems counterintuitive but aiight. I put that on HBO tho.

Neonridr64d ago

This will be the 4th time Sony sells us The Last of Us Part 1.. And the 2nd time on the PS5.

Knushwood Butt64d ago

They don't want Metroid Prime holding that record,

NotoriousWhiz64d ago

Strange, I thought the record went to Street Fighter 2.

FPS_D3TH64d ago

We are approaching Skyrim levels here

Profchaos64d ago

At this point we are at Skyrim in terms of frequency. Skyrim was one per generation. If you exclude VR Skyrim we've now exceeded it

Tlou 1 PS3, 1 PS4 2 ps5
Skyrim 1 ps360 2 PS4/x1/vr 1 ps5/sx

Tlou 4
Skyrim 4

Christopher64d ago

Not quite. Skyrim had:

PS3/360/PC
PS4/X1
VR
Switch
Skyrim Special Edition PC/PS4/X1
Skyrim Special Edition PS5/XSX

VersusDMC64d ago (Edited 64d ago )

Also add skyrim bundles like the one below and all the humble bundles since that's what everyone is doing here

https://www.xbox.com/en-CA/...

darthv7264d ago

@Chris, LoU is getting just as bad by milking the same user base. At least Skyrim was able to sell to a wider audience via different platforms.

Christopher64d ago

@darthv72: I don't know why you're telling me that. I only corrected on number of Skyrim re-releases/ports/etc. I didn't say anything else.

Profchaos64d ago

@christopher guess I forgot just how much was out I think the special editions are technically one release despite being cross platform though would the Alexa version count

Christopher64d ago

@Profchaos: I guess, but I'd consider it a separate release since it rolled them into one at a later date but definitely there is a PS5/XSX version with PS5/XSX supported updates specific to them.

Chevalier64d ago

"LoU is getting just as bad by milking the same user base"

Weird. Like 35% of PS5 owners are NEW to Playstation. Plus this is really for new fans from the TV series for season 2 of TLOU.

I recall the same idiotic comments when the 1st one was remade just before TLOU TV Series came out and it went on the be one of the best selling games that year.

So maybe get your FACTS straight. Unlike Skyrim getting literally releases in 3 generations and 10 releases.

Neonridr64d ago

I gotta figure RE4 is up there too

FPS_D3TH64d ago

No. Those are remakes. Not remasters

Neonridr63d ago

@FPS - we've had quite a few RE4 remasters, only 1 remake.

CrimsonWing6963d ago (Edited 63d ago )

@FPS_D3TH

It blows my mind how people do some mental gymnastics to try to cope with a game they like doing the same thing (technically more) they’re complaining about for another game.

RE4 - PS2, GC
RE4 w Motion Controls - Wii
Literally RE4 HD Remaster - Xbox 360, PS3
I’m assuming a port of RE HD - PS4, Xbox One
RE4 Remake - PS5, Xsex

1 Remake and the bunch are Remasters… how, I mean how—Y’know what, it doesn’t matter anymore…

P_Bomb64d ago

Store says I already own it. I guess it’s just a straight twin-pack. Looks like they added 4 maps to ‘No Return’.

VersusDMC64d ago

You don't need to buy this to get the maps, marlene and bill. It all got patched in to the game on the 3rd.

P_Bomb64d ago (Edited 64d ago )

Good to know. I’ve watched runs of ‘No Return’ but have yet to try it myself. Soon, soon 😉

Knushwood Butt64d ago

Yeah, No Return got a content update.
Three new trophies too.
