TreeHouse is to localize Star Fox Zero? The outcry that follows

You know. One would think that Nintendo would have learned their lesson by now when it comes to all the previous scandals involving Treehouse. Well, obviously not. As it´s said that Nintendo has once again given Treehouse another Western localization work assignment. Because rumours (it´s based on the fact that Treehouse has hosted a lot of “Star Fox Zero” Nintendo Direct events) has it that TreeHouse has been assigned the job to localize “Star Fox Zero” in the West.So this is my (Robin Ek, TGG) take on the matter.

Pullmywaffle2930d ago

Nintendon't learn from their mistakes, that's their MO the past couple decades.

TGG_overlord2930d ago

I think Treehouse is a living proof of that. Sure, Rapp is gone, but Nich Maragos is still lurking around at the burning Treehouse...

deafdani2930d ago

Just to be sure: you're aware that Rapp had absolutely nothing to do with localisation of any game whatsoever, right? She was a PR spokeswoman for Nintendo Treehouse, not a translator.

Yi-Long2930d ago

Well, luckily people here keep reminding me that dubs are generally well done, that most western people prefer English voices over the original Japanese voices with subtitles, and that the option for Japanese voices shouldn't even exist in western releases, 'cause that might cost the publishers a bit more'.

Well, I'm sure they'll enjoy Starfox.

TGG_overlord2930d ago

Trolling much are we? Because Quite a lot of English dubs are pure rubbish. And for example, the Yakuza series wouldn´t be the same without the original Japanese voice actors.

Yi-Long2930d ago (Edited 2930d ago )

Not sure if you actually understood my point; whenever I complain about the original language not being included, people tell me I have no legit argument cause 'we're in the west where everyone wants English', and they will even claim the worst of dubs are still more than fine, and preferred over Japanese & subs, cause they don't want to read subtitles and listen to a game in a language they wouldn't understand.

It's THAT kind of attitude that makes companies like Nintendo just shrug their shoulders when it comes to localizing their games (cheap and crap), and ripping out the original Japanese voices, even as an option. They know these people will defend dubs over original language every time, so quality isn't even a concern.

So like I said, I hope those people, who keep trashing on me and everyone else for wanting the original voices to be included (optional) in their entertainment (be it movies, cartoon, tv-shows, whatever) and calling them 'weeaboos' and what not... I hope those people will enjoy their localized Starfox.

Ilovetheps52930d ago

I'm one of those people who refuse to buy any game too lazy to dub it. There are a few games I have passed on because they don't have an English dub. I don't want to read a game just like I don't want to read a show. I came to relax not read because the dev is too lazy.

Sirk7x2929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

The thing is, when you have the choice to have or watch something in its original language, translation barriers aside, you're getting something that's closer to source material. There is information that is lost in every dub. You have to account for time. Something that takes half a second to say in Japanese, that might take a full second to convey in English, means that option is no longer available, and scripts need to be changed accordingly. I'd rather enjoy an original vision than a budgeted interpretation of it. Imagine watching The Simpsons with Japanese dubs.

Simon_the_sorcerer2930d ago

If it´s true that Treehouse will handle the localization of "Star Fox Zero". Then I´m just going to wait until the user reviews to drop in.

drgkngx2930d ago

"One would think that Nintendo would have learned their lesson by now when it comes to all the previous scandals.."

That they're meaningless. All the childish outcry over the latest Fire Emblem had no effect at all on the game's extremely successful 3DS launch. And why wouldn't Nintendo hire itself to localize its owns games - something it had done many times in the past - because the vocal minority that is GG won't stop crying about it?

drgkngx2930d ago

That juvenile and homophobic pic sure showed me.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2930d ago (Edited 2930d ago )

Uh the game is about to come out?
What do you mean "IS TO"?

Are people blind?
Have people not being watching gameplay footage? Or you just hate Treehouse so much that you forgot and now questioning this game?

Simon_the_sorcerer2930d ago

The game is set for a release on the 21st of April? So I guess that´s where the "IS TO" part comes into play. It´s not the gameplay that I´m worried about, it´s the translation and "memes from hell" part that I´m worried about.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2930d ago (Edited 2930d ago )

Uh they are reusing some of the lines for Star Fox 64. What translation hell?

They cant localize something that already went gold and shipped.

Should have happened a long time ago. People wanting refunds after 50 hours in game.

fsfsxii7h ago

Pc gamers will take this as an excuse to pirate things

KyRo6h ago

I'm not sure why you're getting disgrees. Whilst not all PC gamers are petty, an awful lot of them are lol

Crows906h ago

Entirely untrue. Not any more petty than console gamers. The only large difference is console gamers don't have much of a choice.

qalpha6h ago

Daily reminder that 'TheGamer' is a corporate-generated, anti-gamer, anti-consumer, clickbait web site. They are mostly A.I. generated articles that villainize gamers. They provide nothing positive and actively try to provoke and divide the community through extreme view points and politics. Do not give them any clicks.

Inverno6h ago

Only scumbags? As if people don't play their games on console put in the most amount of hours and return it to GameStop and trade it in for another game. But also how many people are actually do this? And what games have been allowed to be refunded?

DustMan6h ago

You can refund any game you've purchased as long as it hasn't been longer than two weeks, and you've played less than 2 hours. I wish they would change it to 3 hours because some RPG's have so much exposition that you may only get an hour total of complete gameplay. That's my only knock on it. I've refunded plenty of stuff I was just curious to try. I typically stay away from Early Access titles which are the only ones affected by this policy change.

Inverno5h ago

Apparently early access doesn't count, only complete games with a play early preorder bonus.

Gaming4Life19816h ago

I definitely know if I want a refund in 2 hours.

Hopefully doesn’t take them a complete gen to release it

TheColbertinator20h ago

Good. Something not boring, not one of those "make your own game" crap and also on Steam would be nice.

I too like to look for things in the wrong places.

"the capital group of PCF Group S.A."

If you're getting funding from a group that needs two different ways of Acronyming itself, things will not go the way you want them to.

banger882d ago

If it was more online-only crap then good riddance.

jjb19811d 10h ago

Outriders was crap. They slapped that game together and threw in a loot system to get players' attention. This game was absolutely jank and the always online nonsense made it stutter like crazy. People Can't Optimize.

thorstein1d 9h ago

I liked Outriders but I could see where the artistic vision was compromised. The way the industry is now, it wouldn't surprise me that upper management would scrap something that didn't pull in money via gaas, mts, or other means.
